  1. Dude, where IS Ubi?? Don't tell me having a girl on the forum scared him off like a woman hitching her skirts up at a mouse? (Seriously, I hope all is okay. I am reminded I asked about AWOL RWGers and included him, and Euno. Well, we got back the latter...at a horrible "cost". Hoping Ubi comes back soon) @TTC: Awesome PO, darling! I have the pumpkin version, bought second-hand, but the person did so from Jay too. Great watch, looks fantastic, keeps great time!
  2. Well, if it isn't Mr. or Miss Logical raining on our SS bracelet parade!! Just kidding. Sure, everyone knows that. But I think what the original poster meant was have you guys ever seen a Fiddy on some kind of SS bracelet -- maybe an adapted one, or perhaps some metalsmith made an one-off, rather like GPF Dep-Mod buckles are done. TTBOMK, that bracelet doesn't exist. But SSsurfer comes back today, and if there is one person who would know, it is he.
  3. Okay, I'll play Hambone! Can you tell the man is excited about his gorgeous Assioma, when he posts a Monday-only wrist-check on Sunday? Love it. MONDAY I'll keep it short and sleazy. Andrew PAM 177h on Toscana Fiero strap. More later.
  4. And I would become Dr. Crippen or Lizzy Borden after seeing that combo. Having just gotten a Panerai bracelet, I neither hate the metal like I thought I would, but nah, it's just not for my Panerais either. And yes, Fiddy on SS. EWWWW. I dare you to post that on Risti! Double-dog dare you!
  5. That was exactly my impression. First hour showed promise. Second hour didn't deliver. The plot was gimmicky, but as the film wore on, and Ryan Gosling still continued to wipe his face like flies were swarming around it (WTF), and Hopkins continued to be a shadow of his previously talented Welsh self (what is THAT quasi-Irish accent he affects in American films??), I just couldn't buy into its ludicrous ending. I can imagine that for people who aren't used to the American legal system, it might be more gripping and less confusing. But for me, it was like Law & Order meets "Mr. Brooks" meets Hannibal Lechter. EDIT: Since it's a film thread, a few quick hits from me about recent "movies" I've seen. Superbad - Delightful. No watch sightings. B+ The Bourne Ultimatum - Excellent action, but like I said above, it's like I've seen it all before. TAG HEUER! B Mr. Bean's Holiday - It's hard to see a film with one's mother, so we chose this. What a mistake. No watch sightings... D The Nanny Diaries - Vaguely like an extended episode of Sex & The City (which I loved). But it blowed chunks since as ever, the richies are the baddies. I like ScarJo, but the gal CANNOT act. PANERAI sighting in the first 10 mins!! C- Death Sentence - I love Kevin Bacon, but I walked out after minute 50 because it wasn't interesting...he does wear a nice watch, but I couldn't place it. C Becoming Jane - No. Just no. And I love Jane Austen, liked Anne Hathaway in TDWP too. Watch Keira in Pride & Prejudice instead. There was a nice Grandfather clock sighting... C- (Off to watch 3:10 to Yuma. I'm afraid I won't see any watches on these gunslingers, and though I cannot stand Westerns, I like good films. And they say this is amongst the best of the year)
  6. Oh darling, I'm sorry. It's an aesthetic concern, but I heard that sometimes causes pain and restricts movement, if really prominent. I'm guessing Neurosurgery won't be your speciality... In compensation, you have the nicest pair of male hands on the board. And there are a lot of really nice hands on this board (comparing them to Risti's wrist-checks, no contest. This forum must have a lot of handsome guys!).
  7. I want to like Breitlings so much. But I just plain don't. Man, this sucks.
  8. That is a SICKLY SWEET watch, FxrAndy. It looks like you've been wearing a Breitling all your life. In short, you and the SFSO were meant for each other! Oh dear. Will you go off Panerai for the next month?? I fear so. Never mind. Wear it in good health, Du Bayer!
  9. Well, since we're pulling out SUGs, let me update the Wristies. Two of the three watches we got from Jay @ Watchsilix.com (his cheapo site, not the silix-prime one): My mother sporting her new gold, MOP DayDate Rolex. Me with my new Air-King at Sunday breakfast.
  10. When you're a watch collector, you have to expect some misfortune to befall one of your watches, some day. Unless one keeps a watch wrapped up in cling film, if you put a watch on your wrist, chances are excellent you'll ding, bang, scratch, scuff, knock or on rare festive occasion, ruin your watch with a dremel tool after having had half a bottle of Goldschl
  11. This is the clincher for me, Sportice. Wearing a bling, gold, or OTT watch all depends on the build/personality of the person. Right now, I would have to disagree with the majority and say that, IMHO, is an OTT watch. But then, the only gold-type Breitling I have ever liked so far, has been exactly the one By-Tor has shown. And Hoochman looks good with his. @CY0811: My thoughts too.
  12. Helmut, exceptional. Truly. I realise a lot of those straps are probably VDBroucke's fine vintage WWII straps. But I do believe the middle one is the one you made recently. Yes?
  13. I am so taken with the (non-working) Rolex Air-King by Silix that I'm considering buying a gen. Not that I would ever buy from Fleabay, but I went to scope out the prices. Item number: 170149458188 Current bid: US $1,409.00 Come on, that is a Guangzhou special, surely??
  14. Just finished watching it. 1) Dave Fenton has aged beautifully. 2 ) "Packing the hog", hee. 3) I wonder if there is a female version of this song, no doubt by Tracy Chapman. Because we don't exactly turn Japanese. We look like we're drowning.
  15. Da's crazy. Seriously, I'm just as OCD about my stuff only in reverse. I have instruction manuals around of electronics I don't even own any more -- some from gulp, almost 2 decades ago! (Like the mini-white portable TV I got when I was a kid). A Minolta camera I got 14 years ago still is in its original container, and has plastic all over it. It looks MINT. I think I'm like this because both my scientist/absent-minded professor parents are careless people, to the point of vagueness. They ding, scratch, bang, and clunk, not to mention lose..., anything they get within minutes of acquiring it. It's ennervating. TeeJay, I went the diamond paste route, and bought some on *bay! I couldn't find the TZ directed 3.0/1.4 microns, and just got the 3.5 micron diamond paste. Do you think I'll be all right?
  16. Ma questo
  17. Welcome to the forum, Machote. Am I right in presuming your nickname is Spanish for "Big macho man"? Interesting, if so. Regards, Victoria
  18. Out of the blue. How awful. RIP.
  19. Just watched The Brave One, which opened this weekend in the States, starring Jody Foster and Terrence Howard (Hustle 'n' Flow). In the first scene, she was wearing a classic vintage black-faced Cartier Tank (got one too! 1970s vintage. Same lizard strap too). There are reasons why she didn't wear any later on, which I won't spoil. Terrence Howard's (as usual, fantastic, as was Jody Foster -- when they were on screen together, the film sizzled) watch gave me pause. At first I thought it was a black IWC Porto chrono, with croc strap. But I think that's wish-fulfillment on my part. Later I could've sworn it was the very lovely JLC Reserve de Marche (doesn't one of our members have one?): It's possible that it's also the Omega Aquaterra Railmaster XXL: But then he briefly turned his hand around during a coffeeshop scene, and it was not the typical JLC or Omega logo on the buckle. Looked like a fat "H" with a hat (not Hublot, no). God, what is that watch! See what a disease we suffer from?
  20. Not to get metaphysical, literally META PHYSICAL , but for most women beauty and physical perfection are synonymous, Ryyannon. That's why cosmetic surgery is so important to women as they age. This is analogous to men, their strength, and being virile. It's not the same thing, but for many men you can't have one, without the other. Silly. @Pugwash: No, I didn't! Mind, I only just learnt what passing the Dutchy by the left-hand side meant.
  21. Never having watched Elizabethtown (it was fast on the heels of "Garden State", I recall, so I chose the latter, which was SO good), I am excited to see a film mentioned which shows a Fiddy! Thanks, too, Pug! However, when I saw Live Free or Die Hard 4.0 which had the baddie wearing a T3, I wanted to buy one immediately, ostensibly for my boyfriend. Same thing happened when I saw the chick wearing a B.A. watch in Transformers -- only I still don't know what watch she wore.
  22. Having gotten my first grey hair last year, I can now relate, sadly. The wrinkles on the face are coming. I have fairly nice hands...I say immodestly...but with the digicam magnification, the wrinkles there look like craters to my eyes. YIPES! I hate that. What, are you into Wabi-Sabi? I think you're turning Japanese, I think you're turning Japanese, I think you're turning Japanese, I really think so!
  23. DEVASTATING. In a watch collector way, obviously, not in a tsunami/Hurricane Andrew kind of way...but still feel for you, M4rcus. BLIMEY! This might work...wonder why the watchmaker didn't mention this. (Because he wanted the money...why not, he charges little for everything else -- including sizing bracelets) Quoting: "It is VERY possible to polish a sapphire crystal and leave no trace of the offending starch. All you will need is some good quality diamond paste, a camera lens cloth (or similar) and a bit of elbow grease." Dare I try it?? Perhaps I'm too newbie? Anyway, thanks so much, M4rcus. You're a diamond which doesn't scratch.
  24. It's the Ghost of Davidsen's Past!! Only ghost I know which wears a wife-beater. Muy caliente.
  25. LOL! My mother adores jewelry, and has no difficulties wearing paste jewelry at all. But Miss Rep Watch collector here refuses. Odd how tastes work... @Scoobs: Drat, I should've asked about AR coating. I believe Andrew advertises this as "light AR coating" whatever that is. I could be wrong though. @All: My mother said just now, "I can't see anything. And I am wearing my 4x magnifying reading glasses I got at CVS last night. Where is my loupe!". I'm embarrassed to be making such a palavah about such an insignificant scratch. Hopefully, should a more significant scratch happen to anyone, there is a thread they can research about it.
