  1. I know they are 2 different people. At least I think so. They are still both my favorite dealers. They have given me remarkable service and I know they work incredibly hard. I am almost hoping they are working together so I can get better deals :p

I think there is a dynamic at work here that worries people.

If this topic becomes contentious again, perhaps it's more reasonable that it should, than more personal confrontations we've seen today because it does affect ALL of us more directly.

I think most people will agree that monopolies are not good for free-market business. That's the number one problem people have with this "merger", if indeed it is one.

But perhaps they are simply formalising a business partnership they have had all along. If that's the case, it's not a concern, but an irritant based on perception.

The other allegations, of parts replacing, price gouging/rigging, are more worrisome. If someone can come up with a detailed factual list of such occurences, that would be one thing. Otherwise, it's just hearsay which could even be explained as a misunderstanding (and apparently, has).

    Slippery business this.

  2. Ahem, OK, back on topic - that's a beautiful, rare, exceptional watch Vic.

    Enjoy it!

Hey, Rima! Thanks so much for your kind words, and I hope you saw my continued appreciation for your wristies, which inspired this PAM fascination of mine.

Still don't like the Chronos you favour, but they are beauties on you nonetheless. ;)

  3. What are your thoughts?

    Hey, Jawo. :)

Here is a thread on 4 August (also punchy and contentious!) where the group discussed exactly what you ask. That's my post specifically, where I mentioned similarities between both gentlemen, and not just their websites.

However, the upshot from me at least is that they are different people, because as I said, it's incredible that Andrew does what he does as one man. If you were to tell me he is doing the work of two, that would be miraculous. At least, IMHO. :o

  4. i am not doing mod work for others from this point, but i will continue to help our community by making mod parts such as upgrade 2.1mm crowns for a price that makes sense, a 1:1 H series CG, and other parts for unbranding, ect. things we can all use and enjoy. that is what our hobby is all about.

Great stuff, good ending, both members.

Your wife recently gave birth, didn't she, Flavor? Perhaps this situation has unwittingly provided you an escape to take care of more pressing issues at home, like seeing your child grow up, with time on your hands for a change.

    Good luck to both!

  5. Yes, I still mean it. I can't stand to see it gathering dust any longer, so PM me with some details, and we'll go from there :)

WOW! THANK YOU! I just saw it on Stephane's hand now, and said, no way. This can't go to waste. It will make dad happy. :)

    I love you, TeeJay!

But first comes the pizza. :bleh:

(PAM 190, 8 Days Radio on Wojtecki black strap. The StrapCulture one was too thick!! Sniff)

  6. so, i picked up this little puppy on the bay for 500 bucks - Power reserve. AR obviously tourbillon. I think blue screws in the tourb cage would have been in order, but the dial is fantastic. 2 straps, 2 deployants.

SQUEEZE ME?? BAKING POWDER?? Wow, Phoband, that watch is gorgeous. You made out like a freaking bandit!

EDIT: Just watched the Image Shack viddie. First, didn't know one could upload vids, so thanks! Second, wow. Just wow. A real tourby. Lucky dog! Look at that baby go, sweet.

  7. Lanikai.. my name is... Randall.... for those of you who think i will ever hide from anyone.

First of all, no matter what you may think of this matter, you have to admit what Lanikai did was amazingly courageous on this board.

He delurked to present his side of the story, when people were braying after his very blood and flesh, throwing the word ban around, as if he were a tried criminal condemned by a court of his peers.

Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know enough about modding to ascertain whether any of the facts presented by each participant is correct, sounds fishy, or seems like a ploy for sympathy or not.

I don't even know if U$600 is a fair price for work that is after all, painstaking, and indeed does take one away from family.

But I do know that what I saw in this thread was chilling. Never would I like to be in the position of Lanikai, going up against a member whose standing seems absolute in so many people's eyes.

I just ask you to see both sides of the story before any rush to judgement in future, else you'll lose the only thing worth having in any community -- honesty and courage.

    Thanks.

  8. 3. vbarret's Micah Flat Black's http://vintagerstraps.com/Flat_black/

I'm outtie for the day, but just to say Erwinner that that is a good choice given your profession, and is perhaps a not overly elegant choice (like the gator).

One thing about Micah: he's a restauranteur in Napa Valley, whose restaurant was recently featured in US-cable channel, The Food Network. He's been swamped since then, and his strap-making (always a secondary hobby), has taken a bit of a back seat. Not sure he answers his emails for orders, as Greg Stevens does (instantaneously).

Try the Risti forums (Paneristi.com) but DO NOT tell them you have reps. Just check out the Accessories corner for used or new Micahs. They have excellent prices, and bargaining is expected. :)

    Good luck!

  9. Tomorrow: Maurice Lacroix

    298330-462.jpg

Robert, you always have the nicest or most unusual watches! I am putting you in my "Members whose taste you admire" category. ;)

@Kollektor: Thanks! Now that's a compliment, boy! I also was motivated by b16a2 to get that strap, and 005, so just further proof we inspire each other here.

@Hambone: Very unusual photo, thanks for posting it for the group! I should do one with my Fiddy in Coventry, which was flattened by the Luftwaffe, when I return to London possibly this December.

    @TMG: Love the NASA strap!

@Puggy: Wow, et tu PAM? Great V strap! I have the exact V-strap on one of my 111hs too.

@Muckinho: Hey there! Glad you liked the thread. Check it out every Mon, Wed, and Friday. No one has "charge" of the post. It's whomever gets to it first, so maybe you can try your hand posting one day, yes? :)

@Stephane below: Now that's a Stephane watch! Classic, elegant, manly. TeeJay, really, you still mean it? I will say YES! But only if you read this. *g*

@Watcher in the third page: WOW! Like another member said, that gen crystal makes your PO. That's the best orange bezel version I've seen in these threads!

  10. Will do Roger, just one thing, do you know what the STRAP/BOX PAYMENT on the link are, are they like 'add a box/strap with your order for a bit more money'?

Guanaco, I don't know, since before I order anything on the site I just ask Andrew first. The member above counselled you to do so, and I would certainly concur.

Andrew hasn't gotten up yet. It's 3 AM in China, and he gets up in a few hours to check emails. I can't tell you what to do, but if I were you, I'd wait to get answers before charging that card.

(Add strap/box does sound just like that though)

    Good luck!

P.S.: Good, his email is up and running again. I have to email him too!

  11. As most suits are either grey or dark-blue, watches are a great thing to make a statement. How would a black gator strap fit the 177H? Any pic's? Any other suggestions matching a suit?

Since I am up at this ungodly time of the night, dealing as usual with a rep related question in China, I have heard your plaintive plea, and shot a photo of my 177h still on the Micah, but with an Elliot/Timeconnection.biz custom-made gator strap over it.

    THE COMBINATION LOOKS AWESOME, Erwinner.

Hang on, let me upload the pic. (EDIT: Here it is)

    298012-629.jpg

Note, it was Rolli's strap first, so if you want info on ordering it, you should perhaps PM him instead. But whichever gator you go with, it's certainly elegant enough for your job.

    Good luck! :)

  12. You read my mind! I'm stuck between the Micah V dark and the Flat Black with the brushed buckle.

Note about the Micah V Dark: opinions on it from my friends vary from "ooh, that's a nice colour!", to "wow, it's not as nice as a leather strap", the implication being that it's plastic or something.

It's true that the V Dark doesn't have a rich, leather texture. In fact, it's a bit matte, TBH. The Flat Black looks similar in look and feel, don't you think?

It's very different from the Copperplate (w/ white stitching) which I also have now. Didn't look the best on the 177h, so I didn't mention it.

The Micah straps I fancy at the moment are the Red, Pale Rider, and especially the Gobi (the latter for the 177h specifically!).

I don't even know how the sizing works. Or how to pick which buckle size. I have pretty small wrists.

I have 5.7" wrists, and somehow, I'm crazy enough to pull a Fiddy off. I know the recent wrist-check shots make it look a bit ungainly on me, but when seen full frontal, it's gorgeous.

My normal wristsize is 115/75, using the third or fourth top-most hole, but often, the second since I like it TIGHT. ;)

The Micah I have, as I said, has a "tongue" which is 150 long, and it gives one a gorgeous tail effect.

Either way, you can't lose with a Micah or a Strapculture on the 177! :)

    Thanks for the hug!

    :winkiss:

  13. Guys, I waited and waited for someone to post this wrist-check so I wouldn't dominate the threads. However, after reading Flavor Flav's post, I sense some kind of ill-wind overcoming this forum of late...

We need what my Cuban buddies call "un trabajito" performed to rid ourselves of this gloom & doom, pee & vinegar! :cc_surrender:

So, not to make light of real concerns, but here goes the happiest thread series of them all -- THE WRIST-CHECK! :tu:

    MONDAY

My Davidsen Fiddy arrived!!! So what did I do? Took it for a spin on my kick ass motorcycle! FxrAndy just fainted.

    297979-649.jpg

    PAV 91 LOVE BABY!

    297979-650.jpg

Lume Shot! I was too excited to wait for it to lume properly. This was only after a few minutes in the sun. :brow:

    297979-651.jpg

    TUESDAY

What are the chances I'll take off the Fiddy from my wrist all this week? Slim to none, and none just got served. BUT if I do, I'll be rocking my PAM 113 on Bob Vanilla strap. THANK YOU for the strap tip, b16a2!

    297979-652.jpg

    Rolling with my Pannies!

    297979-653.jpg

@Cableguy: Aww, that's a great shot! It's a Stephane hommage, with a Droste effect, and a lot of Cableguy Yachtie moxie thrown in! ;)

  14. Gosh 80 some odd straps and thousands spent within the course of a month and a half  I don't think I'd admit that in public ;)

Hehe. Maybe not next time. :)

But hey, also I'm thinking, I'm super proud of what I did. That's hours late at night dealing with a myriad of Chinese vendors, trying to get just the right watches, etc.

I've packed a year's worth of experience in 1 month! And anything I learn, I share with newbies!

why don't you take all that disposable income and buy a nice gen Pam (or two)? At lease that way they will still be running after a year or two and you'll have some watches to put all those straps on :):D:lol::p

    HAH. That's so true, MK08.

But as Kruzer00 guessed already, I've already made discrete enquiries into buying a gen Panerai. I'm thinking the base 112.

But don't worry. RWG.CC is my "home". I'll not ever leave you for the oft-snobbish gen forums. :p

  15. Sudoku is back online....

    Love the Shoutbox, Admin.

Whatever happened to that new feature I noticed in the new system? When you posted a thread, you as thread starter (only) got to see who had read it. Or was that too Big Brotherish for you to let it remain? :)

FOLLOWUP: Gotcha, Admin! Good to know.

  16. That's t' SCLG-M850 strap. T' leather be just amazin'...it changes colour as it moves.

Thanks! You saved me a PM. ;)

I got this for the Radiomir:

Legend Special Brown w/ Beige Stitch (SCLG - R972), but I confess, it's lighter than I anticipated. Still love it, and will just have to wait until it gets a patina, is all.

@Slay: Have you ANYTHING positive to say? Just wonderin'. (Update: Sure it does. Like telling a woman, "just don't like what you're wearing". Every woman would think, wow! He must love everything else about me!).

  17. YARRRRRRR...it be a beautiful day t' receive bountiful gifts.

YAAAARRRR! Whew, I feel like Keira Knightley, only with more meat on me bones. ;)

P.S.: I got the same little pouch, and card pictured in the Wrist-Check thread. Love it. They have a return customer in me for SURE, and your second strap, Slai, will be the one I choose.

  18. Looks great,,,,if I get another fiddy it will be from DSN,,,,but I have a strange relationship with the fiddy (a long story).

Thanks, Chris! Any story you'd like to share, we'd love to hear! :)

Of course, some stories have already been told, so if there's a thread you'd like to link to, Chris, that's grand.

    Anyway,,,looking forward to more pics...

Popped to the supermarket wearing it just now, wow! The looks I got were fantastic.

I notice the lume is not as strong as the light sabre effect I was expecting, though. But it is 6:44PM where I am, so...

UPDATE: Whoa! I just turned on television to cable channel, CourTV. There's a series on about female Miami bounty hunters, and one of the gals (Gloria) was wearing a PAM 113 on light pink strap! I am almost sure it's a PAM 113, because of the CG. I like that strap, too...oh boy.

  19. you could build a whole cow from that group

and it would look pretty cool

    LOL!

Funny you should say that, Phoband, as I collect stuff with cows on them (mugs, pens, mousepads, etc.).

But I think someone took you at your word! :p

    297811-739.jpg

  20. I borrowed this picture and I was wondering what the name for this type of strap is. I am trying to find one to put on a Panerai PVD.

A NATO (usually striped) or Military strap. There is a lady *bay merchant some guys use here, whom I've been told is excellent, but I use the chap Chubbchubb referred me to, also on the *bay, "watchesu571". He's exceptionally fast from HK.

This is a great (recent) reference post on them:

  21. First, thanks to Davidsen for my ultimate Fiddy, woo! I am SO HAPPY, I cannot begin to describe how much.

Some pics as I unwrap it (literally just picked this package up, seconds ago):

    297802-741.jpg

    297802-742.jpg

    297802-743.jpg

    Thoughts:

Wow, I've received more bubble-wrap around one measely STRAP than Davidsen's staff sent for this precious $420 Fiddy...thank God his crystal is real sapphire.

Like the two "rep" straps, in brown and tan, and already see myself taking those logo buckles unto my more pricier aftermarket straps.

I find myself unable to open the package! I am just looking at the Fiddy, lovingly, at the moment, drinking in the moment. Usually I just rip open the plastic, but this time, because I know I won't be buying any more PAMs any time soon, I am taking my time, like a Chateau Latour at its peak.

    One thing though.

Bought a smashing strap in anticipation already. Stay tuned for tomorrow's wrist-check! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

UPDATE: RECEIVED the StrapCulture strap for the Radiomir in another package! YARR mateys! What an awesome day...I must celebrate this tiny but lovely bounty from heaven.
