  1. Just to make things clear: SLY and PANERAI

....right before the plans for the Stallone movie "Daylight", Sylvester was in Italy and came accross this big italien navy watches....he immediately fell in love and managed to get a special order of around 200 pieces with special dials and casebacks...the SLY TECH

  2. I agree that the white dials are just as flexible in strap choices.

My 188 has settled into the GEF LaSpezia Cognac but I also like the MP XI Papaya on it or a TWB brown gator.

SEE! Guys look. You're posting mainly variations of reddish-coloured straps, and black ones! That's what I mean.

V, I will note your suggestion about the MP distressed though. I have a brown distressed Toscana which I haven't worn, because it didn't go well with my black-faced ones. :)

I do have to say that the SS bracelet looked much better on the white-dial than the black-faced PAMs though, Subzero1.

Recently, Tootall on RWI posted a pic of a strap he had made which honoured his backwoods Florida boy roots -- it was rattle-snake! I thought to myself, now THAT would go beautifully with the white-dial PAMs.

And why? Because it would give it OOMPH. That's what I feel the white-dials lack. OOMPH. They're gorgeous, but lack OOMPH.

This message was brought to you by the Society for the Appreciation and Preservation of OOMPH (Miami Beach Chapter).

  3. doesnt look like the beach to me

You've obviously never been to Scotland, Stephane!

Hey Euno, thanks for making a wonderful return to the Wristies. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

And guys, come on now! This is a great thread idea, and used to have pages full of wrist-checks. We have only 2!! Even Repgeeks has double that!

Here is motivation for you, in honour of Puggy's beach shot, here is one of me in my new bikini!

  4. From a relable source the 000 and the 005 are at the moment not available.. the maker for what ever reason will not be making these models..

If it's the same reliable source, I had that exact info too. My source also said they're not making destro models anymore, since the guy supplying the cases and movements quit (!?).

However, Davidsen still has these all available...no? ;)

P.S.: Yay for SSsurfer! 'Bout time is right!

  5. My 188 is wearing a Gen croc strap... I also have a carbon fiber strap and a black strap for it.

    295936-1855.jpg

PRECISELY! You went for the exact same colour "look" as I did, Carlsbadrolex, although my strap isn't nearly as gorgeous as yours, of course. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    295936-1856.jpg

I have found that deep russett is the best colour for the white-faced PAM.

    - I put on my Crazy Horse with black stitch. Eh.

    - The Anacardo. So-so.

    - The black cordovan/black stitches Manuffature Firenze, meh.

Just the OF Mario Paci cognac strap above made the white-dial stand out beautifully.

I bought a blue gator strap on RWI -- I'm hoping that might be interesting for the PAM 113.

    295936-1857.jpg

Still like the watch, a lot. But I am not pleased by its lack of versatility in strap changes...

  6. This is a call-out to any PAM 113 (or white-dial PAM) owner to show his or her strap to go with this white-faced beauty. Puhlease! :victory:

So far, however, I've found that my black-faced PAM watches are more versatile for strap choice colours. Or is it me?

And my lack of deep summer tan...

  7. Oh Victoria that's bogus that someone would take advantage like that. You can get them free directly from the manufacturer. Or simply go into your local bookstore. Some of the watch magazines have a Business Reply Card that you can request brochures from.

Well anyway that was the last $5.00 wasted.

Yes, possibly, George. OTOH, I am impatient. The eBayer sent it Priority and I had it in my hands in one day. Last time though, as you say. <_<

  8. I am looking at the logo on the 005 and 000 what is the correct angle... square or slightly angled to the right??

I am thinking angled right.... any tech members know the correct one??

    thanks..

The one I am getting from TWP is slightly angled to the right. I had asked him for the correct logo, unlike the one I posted from Trevor Watches (which was all wrong not only in angle, but in shape! Thanks for the answers I received!).

    TANGENTIAL QUESTION

Since I'm in the general Panerai area, may I threadjack this to find out where I can get springbars for PAM watches whose threads are worn through? In essence, they are not screw-in, but adapted to fit these kinds of Panerai lugs.

I heard a collector sold it, but the search came up with nothing.

And yes, it's the latest woe to add to problems of the "brand new" Paul PAM 199 I received. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't sell that watch for even a 1/3 of its cost...

  9. And to think I actually lived through all that [censored] in NYC -

Only to live through even more [censored] on RWG...

    LOL!

P.S.: I hate the late 60s. Thank God my parents didn't hook up until the sixties were a distant memory, and disco was upon the world. Go BeeGees!

(Edit update: If you don't see in the next couple of days, it's because things are hectic chez moi. Me be back soon)

  10. hi all, i've been reading alot of your threads for a bit---I used to be a Breitling guy, actually have 2 Gen. but saw a couple of Pam's that i like a wanted to know what you Pro's thought--- i have seen many Pam on IOFFER by many different sellers, many dif. prices-- i am looking for a starter and dont mind doing mods--definitely the strap---but who to buy from.....i was hoping to see some sellers here? any help would be appreciated---thanx in advance and look forward to typing with you...lol

There are many people, even here, who buy from iOffer or CQout, etc. They have no problems, and sometimes get some sweet deals.

But if I could give ONE fellow newbie PAM starter a piece of advice is, PLEASE consider buying a fully-modded version, even if you have to save for a bit. Try Davidsen or The Watch Prince (TWP), who has beautiful mods by Vacuum. Davidsen has an extremely good reputation, since he builds his PAMs from scratch. They are not cheap, 250-390 USD shipped from HK, no PayPal.

But from what I have seen (my uFiddy is on the way), they are all well worth it.

If you really really don't want to go the expensive route (and I wish I had sometimes, less watches, but more quality), try Andrew or Joshua. Their emails and addresses are shown on the board when you get a VIP upgrade. You can also hit search.

Please note that whilst Andrew and Josh's PAMs are often fantastic, they are not in any way modded so in that sense, they won't be "accurate". Having been a Breitling guy will certainly mean you are not a newbie newbie, but also, you need guidance on the mods.

There are two very recent threads on giving advice to newbies about these, so please go to the Panerai area. You'll see the thread immediately.

The general consensus seems to be that the 112h or 111h are the way to go for newbies. I have two 111hs, and am considering the base 112h from Davidsen when I save up. :)

PVDs are fun, but I often think you don't get the full Panerai effect when you buy one the first time.

    Good luck!

    :serenade:

@Pix: Thank you! Not quite a French manicure, because the nails on my right hand are too small (guess why? Changing straps, and caring for my new watches!).

@Stephane: At least you quit by 50%. You'll do it in your own time. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

@Everyone: Have you noticed how almost everyone today is wearing a little-used watch? Very nice guys!

  12. I'll put my money on "probably not".....

It's an 8 Chinese lucky number thing.

    My thoughts exactly.

Living in SoFla, you pick up a lot about people from all over. One thing I learnt is that "8" is considered unlucky by Cubans.

I forget who wore number "88" on that MLB exhibition tour in Havana some years ago, but I recall when a player wearing 88 had his turn at bat, you could hear the audience gasp in unison. :)

  13. WOW, Stephane, what a first pic! To paraphrase Groucho Marx, if you got any closer, you'd be in back of it. :o

    WEDNESDAY

The old lady over here will be sporting her new PAM 076 "Black Seal" with PAV 99 strap (<--correction!).

    295300-2238.jpg

Got it in the member trade area from VDBroucke, and I love it. Check out that maiale detail!

    295300-2239.jpg

    THURSDAY

Since I'm getting the Davidsen Fiddy, I might as well get as much use out of TWP's lovely 217H as I can. Here it is chillaxin'.

    295300-2240.jpg

My third favourite strap after V's Greek hide, and the PAV 91. Mario Paci's Special Edition cognac, byooteeful...

    295300-2241.jpg

  14. And also, the DSN Fiddy is U$390.

DAVID JUST THIS MOMENT GAVE ME THE TRACKING NUMBER!

    :Jumpy:

I am soooo happy! What an amazing professional he is. Exactly one day from paying for the watch, and with all my specs done (brown/tan straps with logo buckles, check for the correct caseback, etc.).

You guys can now join in the anticipation, as we see how long it takes from HK to my neck of the eastern seaboard woods. :1a:

  15. That's weird, I just now priced WU online and it says:

    Amount to send $ 350.00

    Money transfer fee* $ 14.00

    Total estimated amount $ 364.00

But it was definitely the $30-40 a month ago.

Thanks Cornerstone, TMG, and Maikel! ;)

Did you place Florida in your search query, TMG? And also, the DSN Fiddy is U$390. Sometimes it makes a diff. Because I tried and tried, and it said $42 for me (online, mind you).

And Maikel, yes I did. A Risti chap very kindly emailed me privately and explained a little. This was of ENORMOUS help to me, if I sell straps there. I had no idea I was about to shoot myself in the foot...

(I still don't know exactly what happened, and frankly, since I deal with him every day, I don't want to. He's always been nice to me...)

  16. Well the rep watch jokes have been done, so I'll just go with:

Cool, but a little on the paranoid side for me. There are some kinds of people in this world that take a morbid pleasure in always pointing out the worst stats in the world. Climatology, divorce, infant mortality, traffic accidents, which wife took a meat cleaver to her husband, et cetera.

There is never a "happy news" world clock, like out of the top of my head, the amount of college graduates around the world, how many species were saved from extinction in one year, the amount of books bought, or 50th wedding anniversaries celebrated.

Oh, no. It's always Doomsday for certain folk. If it bleeds, it leads. Blech.

Don't trip on my soapbox on your way out.

  17. I'm sure that, as an elderly man, he must have been quite confused.

I agree with you below, but not this bit. One of my pet peeves is when younger people think older people are "confused". That's just condenscending.

(Don't worry, Corgi, you're a really nice guy, I'm not saying anything about you specifically. It's something almost everyone thinks. Like Tom, I have a soft spot, A BIG soft spot, for the elderly)

You should realize that not everyone in the world is a watch expert like we are!

Well, like some are! I couldn't count myself here.

Mind you, I too carry my Bergeon tools now wherever I go! :)

That said, it sounds very rude of him to ask you not to break it... but maybe he was scammed, and maybe he thinks he is wearing a very expensive watch... it can happen if you don't know anything about them or if you're elderly and/or senile.

Again, this is an assumption too far with this person.

Perhaps he genuinely thought it was gold. As kind as the impulse was, I too would've declined having it sized by a co-worker, because I genuinely would think a professional would take greater care and responsibility, if anything went wrong.

Having said that, it seems this older gentleman could've handled things more elegantly. Jfreeman's impulses were only to help, after all.
