  1. RMO you say? Similar to my original career path as a naive 19-year old, before I was warned off due to the poor reputation of 'meatball surgeons' should you wish to leave and find a job in the outside world.

Heh. Poor Docblackrock. In his case, fortunately, he's not a surgeon so no chance of his knife slipping near your spleen. :p

@FxrAndy: Ahh. I think I understand. Will do.

Tangentially, one time I had dinner at a small little restaurant in Belgium, where the owner and his wife spoke perfect English. They were delighted I was there, and moreover, that I was British. When the owner asked about myself, I mentioned my father similarly to what I said above. Next thing I know, the man is giving me a bear hug, almost with tears in his eyes.

The British had liberated his hometown and he never forgot the particular kindness of a ruddy-faced Tommy, who gave him a small lolly and a comforting smile...

I get a little choked up just thinking about the sincerity of that hug.

  2. Oh how I wish I could share an amusing tale about ladies' tees and a certain member here, but apart from being ungentlemanly, it would almost certainly get me banned not to mention a long midnight walk into the woods carrying a shovel

Crap, if he's reading this, I'm done for regardless... :black_eye:

    Mystery! I like it.

And if Veronica is me, dad has a few S&Ws, a Mauser, and a few other ones which I haven't bothered to inquire what they are. He's also British, so the whole "American" cultural smirks some people have (not necessarily here), are irrelevant about our particular family.

He's just an ex-Guards officer, albeit he was the regimental medical officer.

  3. :fishing1: ......... :fishing: .....and she bites! ;) Why October though? Me, I'm a fair-weather golfer, not one of these miserable hipflask-toting winter tee junkies.

    A) I live in Florida, the land of 2000 golf course. ;)

B ) My boyfriend is coming down during that time, and wants to practise.

    C) Winter, what's winter?

    D) Right now, the heat is overpowering, and the midges are the size of Godzilla.

    E) I'm feeling lazy these days. Too many watches/straps...too little time.

And yes, I knew I was being fished, but as they say when playing UNO, GO FISH!

  4. Awesome to see you wearing an Omega :thumbsupsmileyanim: But that strap's got a worse gape than a porn star's *ahem*... I've heard that 1.8mm spring bars will help alleviate the gaping :)

OH! This reminds me, TeeJay, I think I forgot to reply to FxrAndy. What he said, my mother totally agreed on -- that some watches just look like dude watches, no matter how you dress them up to look like a lady watch. That's the case with the PO, I think. :(

In compensation, Navi sent me the orange leather deployant strap, and it looks a little better on that!

As for myself, I'm still wearing and loving the 2220.80 :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Mmm, you have great taste, mon ami. Now, you just need a white Hublot.

  5. Well you must have a girly swing :whistling: .....

    HEY! I resemble that.

I always used to laugh inwardly at my foursome partners during a round. I would sling my golf bag and walk a few yards to the lady's tee, take out my number1, take a swing, and shoot it RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE...but only 110-120 yards long. That's a PW for Tiger. Many guys can achieve that with a 7-iron. Then, my partners would waggle their shafts like the pros, pose very macho-like whilst addressing the ball, and RIP IT 250 YARDS! ...landing on hole 8. Yeah, girly swings.

Anyway, what was said about chronos and watches in general, is right. That's why Tiger had to come out with his own. I was THIS close to buying one from TWP, too, but someone beat me to it.

I haven't played golf in years, but I'm thinking of taking it up in October, again.

  6. Maybe you can get her to try wearing a men's watch? I hear it is very fashionable these days, and miss Victoria pulls the look off quite well from what I've seen...

    :winkiss:

Takes, a certain kind of build, age, and "look" though. Not impugning the poster's good lady wife's looks! Just sayin'.

Yesterday, I got my first 3 Radios.

First thoughts, fussy stupid little screws which will make strap-changing torture, and that's half the PAM rite-of-passage right there. Then I thought that they do look nice as dress watches, especially the 183h. My mother loved them for HERSELF, and that's always a good sign for ladies of a "certain age", if that is indeed the case with the poster's wife.

Show her the Tag Heuer a member gave his girlfriend:

(EDIT: Upon re-reading the post, realised your wife doesn't care for the black dial version. Shame because TTK had the white one...but that does mean it's OUT THERE)

    And check out this thread:

  7. All these things running through my head and not once did I think of currency. Maybe if there weren't so many americans that could stand to lose 300 pounds it would have come a lot easier.

First, as the previously loudest mouthed newbie, welcome to RWG.

Second, I bet you it's not only Americans that are "closed-minded" and thought pounds=lbs. You're just lucky you haven't found out about "stones" yet. And counterpanes, anoraks, and plimsolls.

Third, I thought the same thing, and I'm British. Guess I've been in America too long. :)

  8. Even though I'm not a big fan of TTK, I have to agree that the actions of this individual are absolutely despicable... a permanent ban from all replica watch message boards would be a step in the right direction... but what would prevent him from smartening up and just coming back with a different user-name and contact information to attempt more theft and crime?

Because Admin was supposed to do an IP sweep soon?

For the record, as I mentioned my boyfriend directed me to this forum when I started to collect rep watches. He's not even a watch person, but he's Google King, and always in the know about the latest cool site. So the first two times, I used his login.

In fact, on RWG.COM, we were on simultaneously one day! (How is this possible? Shouldn't there be a stop-guard to prevent that?).

Next day after that, I registered, and the rest as they say, is torture -- for you all!

  9. I stopped at the pistol range on the way home today - wearing my Ferrari Pam chrono. I only shot about 100 rounds. On the drive home, I noticed that the minute hand counter on the chrono was pointing to 19 minutes. And now it won't reset. Fun. Guess it didn't like the weaver stance.

Ever since I started reading this forum, and seeing all those wonderful guns next to people's watches, I have wanted to get my dad to oil his handguns for me, and let me take a couple to the pistol range. There's one near Homestead here where you pay $5 entry and can shoot as many rounds as you want, all day long, if you can.

The problem is...which watch would not make me look like a butch lesbian police officer practising her marksmanship? I love my PAMs, but you know, even with the red nails there's a limit.

And which could take a beating?

I hit the search button on two forums, and realised, hmm, better not. Even with my gens.

So I uncovered an old Swiss Army watch which used to be my golf beater, and which has a D-link preppy pink-green strap similar to the one I once saw President Bush Sr. wear on a golf course, and will use that there. :)

    Maybe pics to follow!

  10. Thanks guys for your kind words and wishes...

I have renovated a house in Greece but haven't put any personal work because I was working.

Now the challenge is bigger first because I am in a foreign country without a full perception of the system, and second because since I am not working I will put a lot of personal work and being a perfectionist is a small obstacle :p

    Hey V!

Just to let you know that in two posts, I told the guys here you were away on a project, and wouldn't be around for 5-6 weeks. Didn't say what it was, out of discretion. ;)

And you know, I didn't even check the envelope in which you sent me the strap. I presumed it was Greece, but you say you're in a new country, hmm. Interesting. Good luck!

  11. It will look far better after some oils are rubbed in V, try the waxing and any other leather prep you have. BTW i dont use any sand paper or wiar brushes on mine when i strip a rep strap just a bit of bleach and scrub with a nail brush, then a good rince in running cold water to get the bleach out of the leather.

Good deal, Lanikai & FxrAndy. Will do just as you guys say.

However, now I have a question. My Metta Catherina arrived a little the worse for wear. Oh, she's beautiful, but needs some buffing to bring out her natural sheen.

I want her to look like this:

    post-6973-1186047387_thumb.jpg

    Question:

What do you recommend? Same as above? Remember, she's 200 years old, so we need to treat her nicely. ;)

  12. I did'ent receive any communication from you. I am based in london and i ordered a omega po.

I haven't killed anybody since 1983 ....and I haven't sold ANY Planet Oceans since last year......wot'd he think....Mrs TTK raised a fool.... B)

Dammit, Neil! Where's my Kermit LV?? I ordered that two weeks ago. Put down those Ray-Bans and get cracking, or or, or else!

  13. That tootall strap is very nice... Where do I order one? Thanks.

He's on RWI, full-time. I believe these pro-am strapmakers don't come here because they have to pay the VIP upgrade to advertise? Not sure, so please forgive me if that's speaking out of turn.

Anyway, I have the exact same strap...on the exact same watch, now! :)

It looks magnificent. Just have to say though, that whilst I really liked the 217h I got, the FIDDY spoke to me, and that's pulling it out of its packaging all cracked and everything.

I'll get one, yet, you'll see. The Fiddy is magic.

  14. enjoy the hard earned break -- you more than deserve it :victory:

    Same here, The Zigmeister.

By the way, guys, I hope all you Paneristi have your straps and everything you need from your fave Italian outlets, because Italy (Europe, really) closes down in August, as you know! Ferragosto, baby!

  15. V, I know you're busy, but when you get back THANK YOU for these instructional videos.

Just now, having received my Radios in the post, I am trying to fit nicer straps on them, and what a PAIN those little lug screws are, losing them every 5 minutes on the floor. I have spent 30 minutes on my hands and knees doing what I can only imagine is called the "Radiomir owner dance".

I always wondered why Radiomirs weren't as popular as Luminor, and oh brother, can I see why now.

Strap changing is the best thing about owning a PAM, but if I never change a Radiomir strap again, boy...

  16. It really does not look bad .... i use nail polish remover ... for the acetone, it allows u to rub more aggresively .. and then i use a 000 grit wet sand paper.. wtihout wetting it.. you could try using "Hide Food" leather conditioner they sell at the Bently, RR dealerships,.. Jaguar too.. or lexol it is a PH balance cleaner.. they also have the lotion.. German made i believe ... the Hide food is very thick and will gIve the stap a really nice vintage look and it will darken the lighter areas you have ... you could do more with the nail polish remover toward the lugs and tip of the strap and sand down the edges..

That reminds me of a thread I read recently, by an Italian chap who owned hundreds of straps. He rated 4 leather conditioner brands, and I believe he did mention the Bentley one.

The one he rated tops was one which waterproofs a strap, so I don't much like that, because the patina is different on the waterproofed ones.

    This is why I haven't bought Elliot's PAV 98, yet. :D

I have even melted wax in hot water let it cool a bit then immerse the strap in it when it is warm not hot.... comes out very nicely wear it for a week or so and the edges will start to darken with your oils and the parafin in the leatheR attracts oils nicely

THAT sounds GOOD, lanikai. Now, I have wax for my legs, will that do I wonder? Somewhere I do have one of those secret Santa gifts I got, which was a Homedics paraffin wax machine. Let me have a rummage around my home...

Thanks for the encouragement guys! As Laz said, it really helps to have people to turn to. :victory:

  17. I'll say it again... What the hell???!!???

    292507-4362.jpg

    :animal_rooster:

P.S.: Yeah, they had a strange sense of fun back then. But their workplaces sure looked a HECK of a lot better than ours today:

    292507-4363.jpg

I think she got the promotion. She threatened to poke her boss' eyes out with her torpedos.

  18. it doesn't look THAT bad vic

Thanks, darling...but the Sony digicam is doing half the work. It looks much better in the pics, than in real life, believe me.

AND THE SMELL we won't even talk of. Navi was right.

i read this somewhere on RWG over a year ago and emailed it to myself to save it (sorry, author unknown):

"The best way to get a Patina on the MF 1942 is to soak it, dry it (with a hair dryer) then soak it and dry again. Then rub and rub and rub with thumbs (you will get sore fingers) and watch the glossy shine appear. This will age it years in a day. You should not really oil leather. The best Patina I have ever seen is on the old horse leather WW2 US A2 flying jackets and I know they should never be oiled."

Mmm. Don't know I would ever do that with a pricey Manifatture Firenze strap since this cost me only €16, but I THINK I'LL TRY IT.

At this point, what do I have to lose but the smell of a dry cleaners on my wrist...thanks!

  19. Did I say "looker"? Sorry, I meant "hooker" because she sucks. :wounded1:

    292480-4379.jpg

Oh, the strap looks half-way decent in non-ambient light, with flash, and that Chinese Emperor yellow jewelry pouch underneath. Bertolucci would've been proud!

But check her out in the cruel daylight mocking me, saying "HAHA" and meaning it, too.

    292480-4380.jpg

Looks nothing like Navigater's luscious self-modded strap (the very same strap. He kindly gave me the link and instructions of where to get it in Germany and what to do with the bleach).

    Dang.

Like FxrAndy, I just learnt an important lesson. Maybe paying $199 for a strap is crazy. But making straps look as good as professionals ain't easy, so whose laughing now?

Anyone want to buy a $150 strap? :sneaky2:

  20. 38 hours a week or s$x is 5 and a half hour a day...way too much for any GF :Jumpy:

Take the time for your watches :bangin:

I was teasing one of our dear collectors the other day, about being at his computer seemingly 24/7, telling him to go out and enjoy life with his girlfriend, etc.

He wrote back, "Vic, when do I have time for women, lol.". :)

Those poor guys, man, and we thought we had it hard. Well some of us do...but they get emails.
