  1. Why I'm interest? This is the first quartz watch which provide "Minutes-Repeater"Demo + "Perpetual Calender" (According the information from official-site; no need to adjust the day until Year 2100) + Dual Time GMT & less than USD400.

I hear what you are saying, Raymond, but I'm afraid I will also say

The white face looks too plain and nerdy, and the blue face looks unserious. It doesn't even have the quirkiness of an all-white Timex Triathlon Dual-Tech which Will Ferrell wore in "Stranger than Fiction".

    Sorry babe. :(

  2. Ms. Barrett-

Looks like your cousin left behind a devoted dog and a nice double gun (my two sons, about the same age, have nice doubles and nice watches).

His stupid but nice [censored]. Come on, that's censored too?? It's ABOUT A DOG. Sheesh. ;)

Is the first photo from around Aldershot? It just looks flatter than p-o-a-p.

Heh. No clue, Carl. I'd be lying if I told you one or the other. Looking at the photo carefully, you can see certain tell-tale signs he's not at Sandhurst anymore, but I'll not edit/correct it.

I'm still looking for the Mathey-Tissot that my father was wearing when he went ashore on Omaha Beach in June of '44.

But until then, here is my favorite:

    post-180-1190416749_thumb.jpg

    Australian Navy, 1958, a model 5510.

WONDERFUL! And Tissots aren't my fave, but what is it about vintage watches that just look more serious, more worthy, more MANLY than even IWCs today?

Must be the prism of respect we look at them with. Not to mention who wore them. Thanks, Carl. :)

EDIT: It's a Vintage Rollie, but still the same applies!

  3. Wow, I would not have guessed it was a Seiko, it has a real IWC look about it. A fine watch, and clearly one which served you well :)

TeeJay, me too!! I could've sworn that was an IWC.

Here is my cousin. First photo, still at Sandhurst, IIRC. Second photo, in Iraq.

I don't know what watch he's wearing but it's on a NATO band. Later, I believe an IWC Spitfire, but on a metal bracelet (wouldn't that BURN in the desert??).

EDIT: Two photos removed. Sorry guys.

(You can see him go from a boy to a man, in just a few months' time...)

FxrAndy, once again, as ever, thanks for your service. :)

  4. Unfortunately Puggy yes they did, the Admin team was comfortable with Clive's avatar as we had all viewed for a long time, it was the result of direct complaints that forced our hand when we changed the ruling on avatars.

Can we know what that was, a description, anything?

My God, it either had to be the raunchiest ass avatar EVER, or oh I dunno, "I want to have George W. Bush's babies" on them.

Christ on a bike, people are so petty.

  5. * History doesn't repeat itself; historians repeat each other.

    * Sex is like air; it's not important unless you aren't getting enough.

    :o

    * Do what you did when you were a kid: fly a kite, go fishing, hunt a dinosaur......... life is too short for aging

    :tu:

“Life is too short to be little. Man is never so manly as when he feels deeply, acts boldly, and expresses himself with frankness and with fervor.”

    - Benjamin Disraeli

I think she must've read that quote because Paris Hilton rejoined:

“The only rule is don't be boring and dress cute wherever you go. Life is too short to blend in.”

  6. Mine used to be more fun... until a sad little avatar nazi lady complained.

FOR THE RECORD, wun't me. :D

(I love the wiggly jumblies avatars. Maybe a little put off to find out it's someone's girlfriend, because if my boyfriend did that about me, I'd kill him -- but hey, if the gf's don't complain, who cares!)

Edit to add... but she missed my siggy (snigger).

Really, someone complains directly about these things? That's lame.

  7. Ever seen a watch whose face bears some kind of commemorative event? There are some weird ones, boy.

    louisianapurchasezw6.gif

A daily reminder of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. Merci Napoleon!

    :cc_canadian::lol:

    EDIT: More.

Abolish Slavery Commemorative watch (Juneteenth watch?), with logo, "Am I not a man and a brother?". Should've read "40 acres and a Swatch".

    slaverywatches3.jpg

And one commemorating the reign of Pope Pius XII.

    pxiiic0.jpg

(POPE PIUS XII??? WHO buys these things??)

  8. This is my favorite War Watch B)

    1016_102-960x768.jpg

Not a fan of the Tudors (yes, I know, I just made many enemies by saying this), but that's a nice one!

"Issued by the Marine Nationale (French Navy) in

1976, the decommissioning papers that came

with this watch indicate it was retired from service

    in September of 1999."

Ahh, la Marine Nationale. So many jokes, so little time.

I'm working on a 2531.80 Project Watch homage to it ^_^

A post in the offing, hopefully!

@Raymond: This is the only forum where I do that! On RWI/Repgeeks, it's been the same for months...take it as a compliment. ;)

  9. What's wrong with the anonymizer? I had to manually change the URL of the link I posted.

It was asked before, and Admin replied that when we upgraded, the anonymiser went kaputnik. He didn't exactly say if and when it would return. I think it's invaluable and really basic to have one here, so if he's reading :bye1: please reinstall it? :)

Here is an anecdote about my interest in military watches:

Once visited a friend of mine, and her USAF husband in Pensacola, where he was being trained as a future F-16 or F-15 pilot (I'm sorry, he did tell me the correct plane model, but I can't recall. I do know either the 16/15 is a USN-only plane though. I forget which), despite it being a US Navy base.

To my astonishment, there were several foreign personnel being trained there, and I met Saudi, German et. al. pilots galore. The Saudis kept to themselves, and seemed very ill-at-ease with women in general, but the other nationals were friendly enough. Some were actually quite flirtatious.

Then, a party of aviators (naval-only term) took me out to an Irish pub which is famous all over the FL Panhandle and military community, apparently.

That's when I realised that ALL the guys had on exactly the same watches. The US-ones had one which I will never forget, but whose marque I stupidly forgot to ask.

It was like a Casio G-Shock, but much more intricate. One guy even explained they were Mach Force resistant (as can be imagined), but they didn't seem very forthcoming with info, perhaps because it was sensitive for civilians??, so I didn't press the topic.

Ever since, I've wanted to know which watch that was.

My friend's husband did take me to his local PX. An enormous cavern of a place, like a mini-Walmart. Dead cheap cigarettes, and yes, a few watches, but nothing like a Rolex.

  10. Section8 bought his dad a rep Rolex 5517 to replace the one his dad bought from his ship's store whlie in the (US) Navy.

Ooh! I Google Imaged Rolex 5517 (not being a Rolex person and didn't know the model), and came upon this great link:

    http://www.50717.com/misc/london-2001-01.html

    "London Military Watch Scene"

A pictorial and review post on all the London shops selling military watches. FAINT!

"Be sure to visit Portobello and Gray's Antique Market for military watches in London!"

And can you imagine Rolexes being sold at one's PX back when? Are they still??

On a somewhat related note, I enjoyed reading this article on TZ about POW Rolexes - http://www.timezone.com/library/extras/200704246126

    *reads* & *thanks*

  11. All this talk of NATO straps, and PVD/kevlar, plus my love of Panerai reminded I've always meant to ask this:

    1) Is there a SPECIFIC site where I might find which watches are assigned to which military units around the world?

You know, NAVY SEALS, Commandos, aviators, etc. of any or every country.

    2) I already came across this magnificent blogpost on the "Watches of War":

    http://watchismo.blogspot.com/2007/02/wris...rilles-and.html

"When German Emperor Wilhelm I visited the Berlin Trade Fair and saw some experimental wrist watches made by Girard-Perregaux of La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland. He gave an order for 1,000 of these for the German Imperial Navy, and as many as 2,000 such wristwatches were delivered in 1880. This began to change in the nineteenth century when watches were first used to co-ordinate military operations. Pocket watches were awkward to use in combat situations; under a great-coat, on horseback, or under fire, and so military men began fitting pocket watches into cups on specially made leather straps, or asking manufacturers to fit them with chains or straps, so that they could be worn on the wrist."

I never knew that! And he's one of my speciality subjects...

Here are some funky examples of these older military watches:

    1917 trench watch

    silverhhunterclipshut2ng3.jpg

WWI official German Army-issued Jaeger LeCoultre

    jaegerlecoultre1917miligx6.jpg

WWI official RAF-issue watch (well, it wasn't called the RAF until 1918)

    britishtrenchdp8.jpg

And US-company Hamilton watch ad from WWII

    hamiltonbombtimeradnt1.jpg

(Hmm, Pennsylvania was once abbreviated not just as "PA" but "Penna", cool!)

  12. Maybe a psychiatrist should have a complicated PAM, such as a texture-dialed chronograph 253?

    Too fussy!

At the outside, the Clinton PAM 089. Also, no go on the Arktos and monsters like that, IMHO. They're great sport watches, but not office watches.

EDIT: Hmm, the more I think about it, the more I think the 082 Amerigo Vespucci recently showed by Maxmillian, might be a good future purchase!

Check out Maxi's photo, Khumzi (hope he won't mind):

  13. By the way, I've got this sneakin' suspicion that, either there aren't many Radiomir owners in here,or my questions are ignored big time.

    Never think that, wjlamp!

It's either that your thread got lost in the floods of posts we've been getting lately (every day, I wake up to about 100 new posts, wow), or as you rightly suspect in this case, there are few Radiomir owners as compared to Luminor ones.

I have 3 Radiomirs. I can only wear one, the base 210, since the others have stripped lugs -- including my beloved Blackseal, PAM 183.

    294531-3172.jpg

That's me wearing it in happier days -- on a OF Mario Paci waterproof cognac. I wore it exactly twice...

Anyway, the thing is, your question is a bit basic. Not that it's ever stopped people from responding before, but typing (with inverted commas) "Black Seal" or "blackseal" in Search might've given you more answers, as you waited. :)

Here is a good thread by Fishgodeep about his PAM 183g:

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...p;hl=black+seal

And don't forget, 50% other forum special on the Pacis right now!

  14. Dear god! Are you mad, woman?

I have my car dial permanently set to KISS country FM, baby!! I'm sure JFreeman does too. :)

P.S.: My current favourite song is Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman". My favourite song of ALL time is "Coal Miner's Daughter" by the inestimable Loretta Lynn.

  15. Yes, of course. But just because I like cats doesn't mean I'll like cat food. Just because you like Nascar fans doesn't mean you'll like Nascar.

But the point is, I should be predisposed to liking something better if that's the case. :)

Hence my love of Country & Western music. Took me a while to come to like it, since neither parent listens to it, but I got tired of the insipidness of rap, and the boy bands of my youth (save BROS!).

At least you SING in country music...

Your boyfriend is Italian/Canadian, but I presume that doesn't mean you have to enjoy Calzone with Maple Syrup ...

    Yum!

  16. My mum is also a psychotherapist. I find it defines her more than it defines me though. :D

Oh, it defines you, it defines you...remember all those Stanford-Binet tests your mum gave you as a child, because you were her guinea pig? How about talking into a portable recorder, as she observed you in play? How about that time she allowed you to fill out her patients' info unto the word processor, though you were only 12, and you found out what "hypnagogic hallucinations" were?

Come on, you know this happened to you, Pugwash! :p

A Panerai 111h or 183 would be the most versatile, in my opinion.

PAM 183 I see more on Cardiologists. The 232 is clearly for Dermatologists only.

  17. Sorry, but they don't sound like you at all.

You're right. It's not LIKE ME at all.

But haven't you ever appreciated, liked or felt affection for people or things COMPLETELY unlike you or that you disagreed with?

'Cause I do all the time, else this world would be more difficult to live in, than it is.

I doubt your average NASCAR-plate ownin', Trailer livin', hooch swillin' fan knows what's big in the Hamptons this season.

One time, I had a boyfriend who was from Kentucky. It wasn't serious, but I liked him enough to visit him in Louisville, near where he grew up. But he just wouldn't let me meet his "mommy" (apparently, everyone there calls their mum that, even if they're 60 years old).

I said, come on, family = important, what are you ashamed of me?

Turns out he was ashamed, well not of his mommy, but of his trailer park homestead. I broke him down, I went, stepped inside, and was perfectly at home. His mother was nervous, but guess what? As a young girl had backpacked all over Europe -- hippie girl that she was then.

We had A LOT to talk about.

P.S.: Your 'average' NASCAR fan is not anything like you said s/he was above, of course. I'm sure you meant it to amuse, but I can't let that comment pass by without a challenge!

    THOUGHTS:

I'd love to compare this to your average Premiership fan, both EPL and SPL, and see how they rank. Especially when you are allowed to leave school in our country at the age of 16 without going to higher-education, not like High School graduates here, who are therefore able to enter University, and who are usually 18. As for University graduates, well...

(Cultural note for foreigners: "College" in the US usually means "University". In the UK, it's different)

  18. You see, you see, that's just what I mean!! You write a brilliant reply (thank you), full of excellent, considered and encouraging advice, and then you have to go say that!!! Sigh.

    Deal with it!

And do as Sssurfer says. Man, that guy knows women.

But, I have a cunning plan... As you will no doubt know, shrinks of various hues are quite good at turning things around (to be of help to our clients); to wit, "So, I think you're saying that you find me rather dominating [i fidget with my Fiddy and cat o'nine tails]... I'm wondering how that makes you feel?" :p

    Err, quite.

My mother usually wears an enormous amount of jewelry on her person, you know, a bit like old Queen Mary (that would be she to the left, BTW...).

    5708.jpg

Anyhoodle, the thing is when she was with patients she would always take off all her jewels, watches, and bling, save one piece, and a demure watch. It was apparently intimidating otherwise, since many patients did comment that they kept concentrating on her jewels, instead of on their reminiscences.

I just don't want you to be the male equivalent, though you can't go far wrong with either the PAM 111 or 117 (maybe the destro might be quirky enough to act as an ice-breaker).

UPDATE: Just took the plunge! Ordered the Mario Paci Special Edition "Allora a Ora" in Senape and the MP XIII "3646" in Nero! Oh, and am putting the finishing touches to an order with T for TWP's modded 111H (inc. the crown stuff, probably). Haven't quite decided on the movement yet...

    EXCELLENT CHOICES!!

Movement...well, it depends really. Both will run. The question is for how long, and are you the kind of person who might be terribly embarrassed if someone around you finds out it's a rep?

That's why I order my PAMs from Davidsen now, and would with TWP in Swiss version only.

  19. Sorry am I missing something because I can't see any 50% voucher/code anywhere?

Ahem, as I said, "other forums". ;)

Don't know if this is kosher, but check here below (it's the same post, but the first requires no registration to read):

    http://replica-watch.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32091

The owner of Timeconnection.biz didn't put an end date to the 50% off special. However, he did this ONCE, for USA Labour Day, and it lasted all the way through Monday. I'm guessing, GUESSING mind, that it will last the weekend.

But once it's over, it's no use he said, to email him asking for an extension, so if you will buy, buy it tonight!

Good luck. PM (though my Inbox is at 99%...) in case of need.

  20. You shouldn't have anything to worry about, they are more worried about drugs and terrorism than a few watches. Just curious what part of Norway are you from, one of my friends is staying in Haugesund for the last month. I wanted to go visit but the timing wasn't right.

Do we ALL have friends in the small town of Haugesund? This is crazy.

  21. Welcome, Juanjulio!!

All newcomers who introduce themselves are special, and I'm glad you didn't do so before your 1000th post, like some people I could mention (STEPHANE). ...and obviously, me. ;)

I'm glad you had the courage to step up to the plate, and say, hey, I'm here, I like your place, I'm going to contribute the best I can. It seems you are following the same precepts of courage, service, and honour in your professional life too, so thanks for that enormously all around.

Best of luck, and God bless. :)
