  1. My good God, this forum has been down today. Boooooring. Guns, Watches, Religion, Maps. It's like a geek convention at the Marriott.

We touched on horoscopes, star signs, and the like on another thread. This time, it's Adam Sandler's turn to make us guffaw at ourselves. See if you recognise yourself, in your star sign below!

    Aquarius (Jan 23 - Feb 22)

You have an inventive mind and are inclined to be progressive. You lie a great deal. You make the same mistakes repeatedly because you are stupid. Everyone thinks you are a [censored]ing jerk.

    Pisces (Feb 22 - Mar 22)

You are a pioneer type and think most people are dickheads. You are quick to reprimand, impatient and full of advice. You do nothing but [censored]-off everyone you come in contact with. You are a [censored].

    Aries (Mar 23 - April 22)

You have a wild imagination and often think you are being followed by the FBI or CIA. You have minor influence on your friends and people resent you for flaunting your power. You lack confidence and are a general dipshit.

    [*g*]

    Taurus (April 23 - May 22)

You are practical and persistent. You have a dogged determination and work like hell. Most people think you are stubborn and bullheaded. You are nothing but a goddamned communist.

    Gemini (May 23 - June 22)

You are a quick and intelligent thinker. People like you because you are bisexual. You are inclined to expect too much for too little. This means your are a cheap bastard. Geminis are notorious for thriving on incest.

    Cancer (June 23 - July 22)

You are sympathetic and understanding to other people's problems, which makes you a sucker. You are always putting things off. That is why you will always be on welfare and won't be worth a [censored]. Everyone in prison is a Cancer.>

    Leo (July 23 - Aug 22)

You consider yourself a born leader. Others think you are an idiot. Most leos are bullies. You are vain and cannot tolerate criticism. Your arrogance is disgusting. Leo people are thieving mother[censored]ers and enjoy masturbation more than sex.

    [Totally nailed me!]

    Virgo (Aug 23 - Sept 22)

You are the logical type and hate disorder. Your [censored]-picking attitude is sickening to your friends and co-workers. You are cold and unemotional and often fall asleep while [censored]ing. Virgos make good bus drivers and pimps.

    Libra (Sept 23 - Oct 22)

You are the artistic type and have a difficult time dealing with reality. If you are a male you are probably queer. Chances for employment and monetary gain are nill. Most Libra women are whores. All Libras die of venereal disease.

    Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 22)

You are the worst of the lot. You are shrewd in business and cannot be trusted. You shall achieve the pinnacle of success because of your total lack of ethics. You are the perfect son-of-a-[censored]. Most Scorpios are murdered.

    Sagittarius (Nov 23 - Dec 22)

You are optimistic and enthusiastic. You have a wreckless tendency to rely on your luck since you have no talent. The majority of Sagittarians are drunks. You are a worthless piece of [censored].

    Capricorn (Dec 23 - Jan 22)

You are conservative and afraid of taking risks. You are basically chickenshit. There has never been a Capricorn of any importance. You should kill yourself.

  2. @ vbarret

    Vicky,

you want believe it but it's a CharlyJakob ( Watchinger ) . It did stink like ... for the first 2 weeks but i'm liking it more and more every day.

Of ocurse it's not the best you can buy but 32 euro's shipped ( bought in an auction on ebay ) is expensive.

Well, me and CharlyJakob go back. ;)

His designs are very decent, I must say. I've seen better on VDBroucke, and Zeugma, but they're not bad. BUT THE LEATHER: well, as you said, oh God, the smell, and the texture -- horrific.

Maybe Monday I'll show you his other strap. Was supposed to be a 24/24, and it turned out to be a 22/24 (?!) because of bad cutting...

    @TWP: Nice leather jacket, boyo!

@OBMTO: Awesome Savage strap. Double row just like a Walter!

  3. oh well. we'll never figure out women and the crazy sorts of watches they like.

Apparently, Anton, you should've just stopped at "we'll never figure out women"...

For the record, the Breitling marque is my least favourite, precisely because it is as someone said, MUCH too busy. It's so off-putting.

Though Panerais have some beasts of ugly watches (the whole Ferrari range for me is barfarama, sorry guys), they are perfection in silhouette. They look good at night, in the morning, when it rains, when it shines, when it snows, under water, above water. In short, any time.

And versatility is the one thing all women appreciate most in an accessory. I hope Dr. Freud is paying attention.

  4. The gold looks good i have to admit but i just cant decide on this one i keep looking at them and if i was putting one on my 177 (Its the only 24MM i have) i would be stumped, just could not choose!

Oh hello! You should've said it was for the PAM 177 to begin with, FxrAndy. Yes, the gold. Not the one I chose. Boo.

  5. I can't really think of selling any of my current reps. I think they're actually the "cream of the crop"... and I enjoy all of them a lot. I have the principle that I only keep watches that get regular wrist time... so I'm definitely keeping my collection in the +/-10 range.

You once said, By-Tor, that you'd never wear watches that people wouldn't actually think you could afford.

But I would've thought you and the new Aquatimer, which Puggy is so high on, are a perfect fit. Yet you're not an IWC guy, at all, right? No interest in the Aquatimer, at all??

    How about you?

Believe it or not, I'm back to Cartiers and Rolexes, same as I started when those were my gens...3 Rolexes are on their way from Jay, and one Cartier from a local collector. But this is what I want next, the Seatimer:

    21440.jpg

I'd have to give Ola yet another high-five for inspiring this new interest, like she did with the PAM Purdey Lion. Those Egypt photos were awesome. They even made me like the Cousteau! (Not for me though)

Oh, and TWP is modding the PAM 005 for me, and I CANNOT wait to have that. My dream come true.

  6. David, when I saw this Caddie, I was reminded of the lady I saw in her 7-series Beemer, wearing the most beautiful white-face, platinum Rolex DJ (I think -- check it out):

    bmwrollieee7.jpg

The BMW and this Cadillac look very similar in build and certainly in colour:

    fiddybeemernf4.jpg

So, I'd recommend the watch she was wearing. Powerful elegance. The Fiddy I mean. :D

    (On FxrAndy strap!!)

  7. If any of the former members of RWG1 see this, now might be a good time to log back on and post a word in Fordzilla's thread: not much response by the overwhealming number of noobs over there who have little or no idea of the kind of solidarity common to this forum....

What is is that Paneristi say? "Bringing the world together". Well that's true of us, too.

Thanks Ryyannon. Coincidentally, I am going to Gesu Church before it closes, so I'll light up one of those electric candles and say a word for Jordan.

  8. Or is the Bossman just punishing me?

    Yes, yes he is.

But I have a cunning plan!

Type your location, preferrably with postal or zip code (I don't think Google accepts Parisian arrondisements, the ingrates). Then choose your pin, balloon, or whatever gay colour thingamabaghdadbob you decide on.

Then DO NOT hit update. Just click on Save. Go back to map and see if you are listed. You should be good to go. Well, I use high-speed internet, and I rather suspect if you see smudges, you're on dial-up. If so, you're on your own, kid.

    (Story of your life?)

  9. True, but it's not very in keeping with the very premise of Christianity. It's a fatal flaw, in fact. The very ambiguity of the whole thing shows either a stupid god or a careless god.

Not really. It just shows we cannot grasp the enormity of God, and His wishes to lead a righteous life. The fault lies in Man, and always has done.

No, I just don't buy it. The more I studied religion and the history of Christianity, the more I realised that it's nothing but a hoax perpetuated to control the gullible.

    Okay, that's cool.

I mean, I dislike evangelical people. I don't mean Christian Evangelicals, I mean evangelical people who are so convinced of their absolute grasp of truth, that it comes as some kind of affront to have people around them not share their convictions.

In turn, they spend hours trying to convince people to think like them, because what they believe is superior to that person's beliefs.

Nope, that's not me, never has been, never will be.

I do notice a lot of Atheists are like that, though certainly I'm happy that I suspect you're not one of them.

You just don't like the bunk of religion, and that's fine with me.

Pope, infallible, right? Surely, if there were a God, and he were in charge, Pope Alexander VI (Roderic Borja) would have been struck down, but instead, he was quite happy to let him carry on, to the point of his debasing the entire papacy to a joke.

Yes, Rodrigo Borgia was a pip, wasn't he? Any man who could have that kind of offspring (including the much-maligned Lucrezia) must've been some kind of Pope.

But I don't blame religion for the faults of man.

This is why I have absolutely nothing against Islam, just because some nutters use it as their fulcrum to spread violence around the world.

All popes after him are not allowed to say "Alex Six? He was a c0ck" because to do so undermines their post.

No, few people who share any position of power are willing to stick their neck out and say such things.

How anyone can blindly take what the religion has been distilled to as gospel is something I don't really understand. If you're going to believe something that big, surely it pays to do a little research first.

Research is a modern impulse, if not idea.

It's based on the scientific method where you observe what you see, and make determinations based on those observations.

Belief is something quite different. Until recently, I didn't think people could change once they never had it.

That is, until my medical doctor father had a heart attack, was pronounced clinically dead, came back to us, and discovered that hey, maybe this Atheism thingie he always believed in wasn't the bees knees after all.

But that's his journey, not yours, and not others. I wish you well in yours.

    Night night, Puggy.

  10. I began to be crasy about strap

LOVE IT! What an awesome idea. I don't like the smell of burning cigars (reminds me of an old Cuban-American boyfriend of mine), but your straps must certainly have a lovely aroma.

I could've sworn that was a Walter PVD strap though. But then I noticed, no distinctive double-row of stitches. Still beautiful, Golfman!

P.S.: What screwdriver set are those? I have both Bergeon, and a cheapo HK version. Looking for something price-wise, in between.

  11. If there were a God, he died in 1914.

God is a necessary part of civilisation's evolution. We needed to go through being united under one supreme being before we could get over killing each other for sport and food. Once we'd done that, we no longer needed an invisible "Don't or you'll burn for eternity" stick.

If there were one true religion, why hasn't it won?

Because it's not like war or history. It's not about winning. It's about belief.

    And my big anti-religion question:

Why is your religion determined by the birthplace of your parents?

Same reason I'm not called Svetlana, Estafania, or Nzhinga.

Although, thankfully, I can choose to change my name (and religion) if it suits me to without getting my head chopped off.

  12. I mean the whole point of the first council of Nicaea was to vote on whether or not Jesus was his own dad. A vote. Just think about it.

Gathered in that Council were some of the great sages of their time (and let's be honest, the 300s AD sucked ass).

Perhaps you would've preferred one dictatorial wave of the pontiff wand to define what is or what isn't Christianity? I would prefer what many people in Europe call "a dialogue".

It may be by force an elite dialogue, but at least it's better than some religious dictator handing you a glass of poisoned Kool-Aid telling you to drink up, or uh, else.

  13. It's the same hypocrisy, even though I'm in no way suggesting guanaco is a paedophile, obviously.

It smelt like Godwin's Law. Not good, but at least you clarified, so back to the chat.

If you like having an imaginary friend, sure, carry on. Just don't give it money and most certainly don't base any important decisions on whether or not it's real.

This is two separate ideas. Religion. God.

One (religion) is man-defined, no matter what Moses said, or what the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) claimed.

The other (God) is one of those unbelievable Eureka moments that sometimes happens to Man, that gives Man an extra edge over the other animals, and always will.

    Because it isn't.

No, it isn't and you know it.

No. I don't. And I'm not willing to take your word for it, either. :)

  14. What he's saying would've made Nietzsche, and Kierkegaard, love him. Not in the sense that he's done away with god, which seems to be the argument, but that he revaluates values.

    A salient point, Pabra.

However, if I understand Guanaco correctly, he is the type of person for whom his religion is part of him, but doesn't define who he is. That's me too.

I believe man is inherently searching for a higher truth. Some call it God, some call it science, some call it Hublot Big Bangs.

Call it whatever, but know that this search is primordial. :p

  15. I simply don't think you've thought this out. You're like the paedophile priests

This is horrible overreach, Pugwash. Seriously. One feels instinctively one can speak to you, because you'll give people a square deal in exchanging ideas.

What you're actually saying is that you believe in God and you're ignoring him because you simply believe you know better. Great.

No, he's a cultural Catholic*, like I am. It's been referred to as Cafeteria Catholicism, because people like us pick and choose what we like to follow based on personal convenience.

    (*Well, Christian to be exact)

There are all types of variants, such as pracitising Liberal Judaism, or being Muslim in Turkey, where you do not follow the shar'ia.

People do this, and have done this since the beginning of time because following religious Commandments is hard. Real hard. Those of us who are honest with ourselves know we're hypocrites when we don't at least try.

That doesn't mean we're better or worse than anyone else. It just means we're human.

Since we're discussing this on a rep forum, where people buy and sell replica watches, which is intellectual property theft at best, outright scuzziness at worst, I don't think anyone of us can claim any kind of moral high ground.

That certainly is the case with me, and I'm sure there are plenty of others who agree. Guanaco was certainly honest enough to say as much.

  16. @Cats: Dude, yes, what a strap! Is that a Delaurian??

As for me, I haven't changed since posting this on Friday:

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=314211

BUT, here is a better snap of the PAM 217h with Mario Paci Private Stock in Cognac (sold out for 26mm -- I got the last one!).

    cognac217hpi3.jpg

    This strap is faultless.

    217cognac2tr1.jpg

And on the destro big'un, it's to die for.

    mpprivatestockcognac217cn0.jpg

Better closeup of the Mario Paci Keyring. There are just a few left. When they're all gone, that's it. Love it!

    pacikeyringiu1.jpg

  17. Cool new feature, but we all know I'm pretty  , so I need to find a "simulated" location.

Well, there goes our other Washington Stater! Sheesh, so many eastern seaboard members, it's not funny, Willith.

And I see Rolli no longer is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. OH NO ADMIN! Man overboard indeed.
