  1. omg vic.. thanks for the reply i was just about to pm u.. about this..

Thanks for the friend thingie. You're my first, and as they say, you never forget your first. ;)

coz i know u know alot about panerais..

Nooo. I really really don't. That's just your kind chivalric nature talking.

There are loads more people here that know A LOT more than I do. I just know how to buy straps. LOL.

yes.. i have been reading that thread 3x already.. but still don't have a single clue about wat its saying LOL.. sorry my stupidity.. but i like the 111 like u said.. but in that thread it says that you need to mod it.. wat kind of mods do i need to do to get it accurate to the gen? to a point where you can't really tell a difference..? thanks vic :)

Here is what I've heard one has to do:

    - Super-Luminova (the lume seems to be the single-most needed mod, since it's a dead give-away it's a rep with a low dial luminosity)

    - Cannon pinion adjustment (Second dead-giveaway. The Cannon pin is what holds your watch hands, which looks down or more properly termed, "recessed", in rep Panerais. I believe this is actually more important to the authenticity of your PAM than the Super-Lume, but having a deep lume is dead sexy)

    - Improved Palp(atine) crown (needs to be fatter, and often shinier than rep ones)

    - Anti-Reflective coating (at least one side, if not two. Note, in gens there is a yellow tint to their AR PAMs. Reps are more bluey...)

    - Swan neck regulator and dagger replacement (Hard to explain, so check this out)

I believe the following are important, but less mandatory:

    - ETA swap if you have the Asian movement

    - Changing the font of the "L Swiss (Made) L" trademark which is usually too close to the 6

    - Cyclops adjustment, in case your PAM has a datewheel

    - Crown Guard lever fix, though I'm uncertain if this is done when the CG is replaced (see above)

    - Dial change or Dial Painting (for greater accuracy in looks)

    - Many other mods, possibly important ones which I've forgotten. Guys? Input? :)

This is a good example of what a finished Panerai watch would look like:

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=257075

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...1&hl=dagger

Note: The modders have different prices. I've been given some insider tips as to how much a person should pay for this or that service, though. Not knowing this is the equivalent of being a woman with a car problem going to the mechanics. Rip-off city if you don't know what's what. I know this very well. *gg*

  2. Just an update to this: Looks like it can take a while to fix things, so the server will unfortunately remain unstable. I'll update again when I know more.

Best of luck, Admin. Should we stay off the site today, so as not to overload the server? :o

  3. Hehe. Thanks, sssurfer. You have one thing going for you that I love in a man -- you're Eyetalian. :victory:

Right now, I'm actually rather smitten with one of your paesan, and I have the great fortune that he's possibly even more smitten with me....so as you know, one of God's greatest blessings is to be in love with a good, decent person.

And to own a Panerai! :)

  4. TBC was good, back then, if you were of that age. Today, it stands up as an old movie about a different generation you don't understand.

    I disagree! :)

I believe in the universality of human angst, and particularly the self-involved pity party thrown by every teen for themselves. And I think Hughes captured that brilliantly. His teen flicks were the first that didn't talk down to adolescents, or glorify them as RWAC did, with that cutesy twink, James Dean.

Oh, and it has that most detestable of stereotypes - the fake alternative girl that gets a makeover.

Yes, Sheedy was a fakey goth chick, but let me tell you something. How many grown up goth chicks do you know now? Not too many, unless you are part of the biker world or hang around metal tour groupies. Most goth chicks really do just want to be pretty, and have nice appearances, but their teenage cynicism is too strong, or their undeveloped personalities too weak to do so.

good god, what saccharine are they serving in Hollywood that makes all film makers want to use fake goths or fake punks that wannabe secretly normal? And on top of that, you just know everything will go back to normal on Monday.

Remember that they talked about that in TBC! "What will happen on Monday, will we ignore each other same as before?", asked Anthony Michael Hall. That I found refreshing, and something that would've happened in real life. It wasn't no sitcom where all woes are solved in 24 minutes flat. ;)

And another thing, why do teenagers in John Hughes movies all have classic cars? Even the poor ones. If you're Molly Ringworm from the wrong side of the tracks, you get a cool classic VW. Damned rich poor kids...

Now that I have no answer for! Didn't Molly drive a pink Karman ghia? What is vintage now could perhaps have just been clunky back then, rather like driving a Ford Pinto in 1985...not that anyone should have driven a Ford Pinto EVER.

    (shiver) :harp:

And yet another thing ... when next watching a John Hughes movie, look for the kid in the hat. There's always one. It's as if he wanted kids to start wearing hats. :whistling:

Notice that Judd Nelson wore a Bund strap on his rather nice aviator watch during TBC. Seiko, I wonder?

ps. But yeah, I love John Hughes movies too. Save Ferris.

Oh, Pugwash. You sounded like Dirty Harry just then.

  5. Hi I'm not very familiar with panerai watches.. but from pictures wat i've seen.. i can see alot of watches that i like.. but my problem is i don't even know what model is which... and i don't really know where to start... so can someone pls help me on starting? :p.. which model is the best out of the box? and which is your favourite (and please if you can also list the flaws)? thank you :)

Armin, check this similar thread out, which is just two days old. :yu:

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=42697&hl=

The general consensus from our resident Paneristi is that you should go either with the very repped 111h, or even better, the 112h, the so-called "base" of the series.

That link gives you a lot of very good advice, so check it out and profit by it! :)

PS: my friend said that his boss has a $80k panerai watch.. but my understanding is that most panerai watches are in the 5000-20000 price range.. does anyone know wat model is the 80k ones?:p

The older Pre-Vendome models are in that range, easily. Slytechs must cost a small fortune, though they are newer than the Flottiglia XaMas ones, obviously.

There is this Risti link about prices:

    http://www.paneristi.com/reference/priceli...prices2007.html

Unless my poor eyes fail me, I think their top listing is the 253 at 40k U$. But of course, that's the CURRENT or more available models.

By the way, I got a 2006 Panerai catalogue on eBay. Mmm. EYECANDY-city!

  6. Both have often recognized to be buddies, that's not surprising. Some say they are the same person, which I personally don't believe, and Victoria you're just saying it with more chosen and objective reasons, they're not 1 but 2 (or more) persons.

I was just wondering about the same structure in the domain name and emails. But maybe it's not really taht important.

I believe that they are not the same person. If that were the case, that would be very bad for all concerned. I personally would not like that in the least...and it could wreck a very nice relationship, because I've asked a similar question (not about Joshua) and was assured it wasn't the case.

But when you are partners with a good friend, there are often shared accounts, and the procedures are almost identical because of a possible mentor-pupil relationship has made it so (you learn and adopt the same practises). Certainly both websites are identical in feel and tone. And what though? Maybe they paid the same webmaster. :D

(Not saying anything to you, Pix, just in general!)

Having dealt with Andrew exclusively, I can say that what he does is mind-boggling for one man. But if I were to be told he does the work of two men, all on his own, wow, that's beyond belief, full stop.

  7. Hi, sorry to interfere but... did anyone notice ?

    TT88 and...PC88 ?

Noticed. Being an ex-English instructor, I also teased Andrew that he and Joshua have similar syntax in English.

Now, I wasn't implying anything, since I've read Josh's emails to my mum, and the manner is completely different (Joshua, business-like; Andrew, affable) and not saying they are emanating from the same being, but these guys must be very close buddies. Perhaps childhood friends. Hence, it's not surprising this TT88, PC88.

  8. 1. Started off as Eddie Lee's best PAM 111H: Great case

First, I am not experienced enough to give you feedback on this, but I wish you luck. Also, this situation reminds me of why I would sell straps in a heartbeat, but never a watch...

Secondly, have you noticed that Eddie Lee watches are always on sale in the Member Trade sections of the forums? Always. Rarely do you come across a DSN.

Reminds me of what my mum says, that BMWs one can find in AutoTraders by the dozen. But Mercedeses not nearly as many. There's a reason for that, my friends.

  9. -Hublot Rose Gold Ceramic aka RAW SEX

    RRRRR!

-probably the most notable watch in the collection.. awarded as one of TIME and popular science's best inventions.. it's called the Sleeptracker watch ^^ google it, sleeptracker :victory:

Please allow me to link to it, after having Googled:

    http://www.sleeptracker.com/

FASCINATING. Since starting my rep watch career, you have noticed I'm up at all hours, trying to contact this or that Chinese collector during their working hours. Well, it has wrecked havoc on my body, people. 11 packages don't just materialise out of thin air. You have to work at it.

So this is a perfect watch.

AND...check out the video on the link which shows Dr. Phil (whose programme I have never watched) giving a Sleeptracker watch to a woman who has infinite trouble waking up in the mornings.

    Breitling Evo?

Just wondering what watch the good quack is wearing. :whistling:

LOVELY collection, Tom. Thanks for posting it here as well as RWI. My fave is still the HBB for the reason you mentioned, and may I purr yet again, RRRRRRR.

  10. For shooting larger caliber handguns which impart a substantial jolt to your arms and hands, there is nothing better than a Casio G-Shock.

The G-Shock is built like a tank just for such activities. It is the complete "tool" watch that you can beat the daylights out of and not harm it.

THANKS! I needed to have just such a sensible reply for these activities. I don't much like Casio...and they look very masculine in general...but I'll give it a go because *looks around* I feel naked without a watch on my wrist. :sweatdrop:

For golf I often use an Omega Aqua Terra on an alligator strap to keep it snug on the wrist. Golf doesn't impart near the shock to the wrist as shooting so the possibility of impact damage is almost nil. The biggest threat is perspiration salts which can damage straps and over time have deleterious effect on metal. This is particullary true in hot climates such as here in Florida. I always give my watch a light wash down after such exposure.

Again, letter perfect reply given my original question, and to boot, from a fellow Floridian who realises the impact of our weather, not only to ourselves, but to our goodies.

My boyfriend is always asking why I have flat tyres all the time, when in 15 years of driving, he doesn't remember having a flat once up in Canada. I said, Florida baby. The heat wears those suckers down.

I wonder how well the Tag Tiger Woods quartz rep will hold up. I noticed that he doesn't wear a watch when playing.

It could well be advertising-only, but in the TAG HEUER Youtube advert I saw, he was taking a swing in a bunker wearing his namesake watch.

One chap over at RWI said the first time he wore his rep version, he shot under 90 for the first time in his life. It's got Tiger Magic! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

@Docblackrock: LOL. Best "reply" using emoticons ever.

  11. Here are some better shots of my new Pam188. Thanks again Denise for a great sale! She wont be wearing a bracelet as I had hoped, but ehre is the Gen strap that came with the watch. I picked up the new deployant from the dealer today.

Are you kidding me! This is gorgeous, CBR. Looks way better with the gen strap and deployant (which you also get when you buy this rare watch). Nice deal. I had seen Denise selling it, and you got it at an awesome price!

Does anyone see something wrong with the case back???

    294163-3340.jpg

Hmm, no edition numbers? I'm sure that's not the term for it, but you know E0017/1950, etc.

  12. Here's a genuine alligator from HK Tan (because it was on the clipboard :-)

    294160-3341.jpg

Well, what do you know! It's Clive from the other RWG, replying to a newbie about which PAM he should get, unlike the help I asked for and didn't get from the mighty Clive.

Well, how do you like me now, beeatch?!

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=42508&st=0

    294160-3342.jpg

Yes, nothing like a fellow Brit going above and beyond for another. I will now sing a Vera Lynn medley in your honour.

  13. i finally found the right watch to put this strap on. -it is a 2 of a kind V strap, there are 2, his and mine, the leather is AMAZING and the strap is AMAZING and nice and soft and comfortable. its much more comfortable than my Gen corum strap. Check out the photos. gives you an idea how big the corum bubble watch really is - makes a 44mm pam look a little small :)

    294156-3349.jpg

Dazzling watch/strap combo. I am REALLY impressed. The Corum looks awesome.

Next to the Bob Vanilla and 005 combo, this is my new favourite combination on RWG!

  14. Yes.. they have all the correct markings but if you see the packaging it says TAN in the colour :)

EEK! So it does...ah well. Confirmed.

You mean the XaMas hommage in my signature (3rd photo from left)? You like the stitching or the leather or both? :p

BOTH! Me want! :sorcerer: *jumps up and down on V's lap like a little girl*

  15. Never seen Rebel without a Cause, so can't really compare them... I didn't dislike Breakfast Club, it just didn't appeal to me as much as other Hughes movies, or indeed the movie Hughes should have directed, Weekend at Bernies...

Andrew McCarthy man...yum! My childhood dreamboat. ;)

:omg: Don't do things like that, you totally got my hopes up :nono:

Now it shall be condemned to a life of collecting dust with my Rolexes :D

Yeah, but, TeeJay, remember I'm a tease.

  16. I couldn't care less if people want to know or not, there are other ways for people to find out the domain name, than to let a dealer post such a blatant advertisement in the middle of a 'general discussion' area. This forum is supposed to exist to protect buyers from dealers who lie about their services and products, not continue to allow them to advertise. As I said, I made a donation - after Admin had said that donations were no longer required- to assist with server fees, not to allow the Cartel Dealers to keep advertizing their sites. What did I actually get for my donation? I haven't been upgraded to VIP status, despite the transaction taking place outside of the 'window of requirement', and it was something Admin and I discussed privately. Had I realized that dealers would still be allowed to post such blatant advertisements under general discussion, I would never have made the donation. Given my donation was a ) surpluss to requirement, and b ) will be used in a way I consider unethical, I feel well within my rights to ask for it back.

I can't and wouldn't tell you what to feel about this issue, TeeJay. But just to say that the moneys you donated mean SO MUCH more than just this one issue, to the welfare of this place.

I know from having spoken to you, that you have a shall we say, distaste for the collector cartel, but so long as Andrew isn't actually posting his wares on this thread, IMHO, it was a legitimate and important update for his clients.

I certainly would've been lost, if I hadn't been in his mailing list already.

Now, absolutely you would be correct if he said, "Roll up roll up, here's my new Aquaracer". ;)

Admin, would you be so kind, when you can spare a moment, to upgrade TeeJay? I have already paid an extra little bit on behalf of his lovely guinea pig, Patches, if you recall. Fair's fair. :)

  17. Definitely. Ferris Bueller's Day Off was one of my favorite movies when I was younger, topped only by BMX Bandits... I love John Hughes movies, but for some reason, don't really care much for The Breakfast Club... It was watchable, but never really appealed to me like his other movies did... (Weird Science, for example)

    GASP.

    Blasphemer.

TBC is the single-best teen movie EVER. And much more relevant than that stupid Rebel Without a Cause.

I think it might be as well for me to let it go. If I'm realistic, I'm never going to wear it, as, I just don't like the watch enough to want wear it... Every time I've put it on, as nice as it looks, I always just want to rip it off and put my SMP back on... Given that's how I feel about it, I can't see myself ever opting to wear it, even for a formal situation, so I think it's probably best that it goes to someone who can give it a good home... Shoot me a PM, and we'll work out some details :)

    I was kidding! ;)

Well, my dad could indeed use that watch, but he's got 3 rep VCs already...my mother would groan if she saw even the otherwise beautiful Overseas.

Who knows though. We'll keep in touch, I'm sure. :D

  18. Why not use the main colour (green) as backgound for the NickName, time of post and # and the writing in white ?

Then use the lighter grey for quote.

    Reverse in fact.

This would make each post more "isolated" from previous/next...

Sound proposition. By the way, thanks to Admin for the avatar re-revamp!! Looks more like the old RWG.CC now. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  19. I think the new look has a lot going for it, so well done on putting in the time and effort.

A couple of thing that I'm not so sure about:

    1. The poster's info in each post is now presented horizontally, and I think this really adds unecessary bulk to every thread. I preferred the previous layout where the info was vertically presented.

Of ALL the changes, this is my least favourite upgrade. I also liked the vertical avatar-info.

    2. At the top of the page it says my inbox is showing 1 unread message. But when I go in there, all my messages are marked as read!

Same here. I also miss the "View New Posts" with the number next to them.

Early days. If only I could get my old blue skin back, I would feel so happy, but then as I said, I don't do change well in general.

  20. Great collection Vic.. :)

the 'waffle' strap though on the 154 is definately not OEM.. It is a cheap crap rep strap.. Panerai never issued a strap like this.

    I thought so, V. :(

They came with the little "Made in Austria" package and everything, and look very nice, smell of leather, and have the correct markings, I admit. But something told me they weren't OEMs. But I paid a fraction of the OEM cost...

I will amend the post with inverted commas for "OEM".

P.S.: Somewhere, maybe in Don, or Dirk's Photobucket site, I've seen the waffle offered. And on ViaPaneristi, they have one photograph in the "World of Straps" section, which shows it. So I said, hey, why not.

P.P.S.: The only one I am missing, of the big strapmakers, unless you count Hirsch and Camille Fournet, et al., is the XaMas model. I remember your own hommage to the XaMas, and if you ever get a spare moment from your house-building, I'm in for one!

  21. Yeah, don't you guys watch the Sopranos??

I stopped watching after S2, when Pussy was killed. :(

On another note, member VDBroucke informs me that I goofed. The watch forum in German was a gen watch forum, similar to Risti.

Trust the Germans to be so anal. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  22. Yes, my dear and anonymous vbarrett, I must have a word with the Administration staff of this board. While they do perform fairly well there is the infrequent shortcoming. To think that I would abandon this site is simply absurd.

Those who know you, Miss Understood, knew it was a blackguard lie to end all lies. Personally, I would sue.

The postman is simply too rushed. To his small way of thinking it is all in the "delivery" if that simile is not too coarse. My milkman, however, is far more versed in the pleasures of milky substances and how ... and when ... to deliver them.

Ahh, say no more. He floats your milk-float. :sun:

But overall I believe my vote for "most desireable male" would go to my succulent salmon. I daresay it is time for another holiday in the arctic.

    :winkiss:

    Sounds fishy to me.
