  1. The design is a bit "Village People" for my taste and conservative environment ... but I love the colour of that leather.

Clearly, there is no faulting your craftsmanship.

To be really critical, (well, you did ask), I think that the stitching on the keepers is distracting and conflicts with the visual flow of overall design. There is so much happening on this strap already, that the contrast stitching on the keepers goes one step too far.

    Just one man's opinion.

I'd be grateful if you would PM me the cost of a standard 24/22 strap in this leather.

    Regards,

    Clive

  2. Welcome - that is a nice watch! Very true to the spirit of Patek

As yet there are no really accurate Patek replicas - but as there are so many different models, nobody is likely to call you out on this.

Unless of course, you don't look like the sort of guy who could afford to sport a Mega£ watch on his wrist.

But if you have the style and the chuzpa to carry it off... enjoy!

Personally, for business, I rarely wear a rep of a watch costing much more than two or three grand. That would be about the limit of credibility for my pay-grade.

When I go to the pub in the evening, I'll wear whatever I like. All the regulars there know I wear replicas, and they will judge what I wear on its appearance alone. Some "spirited discussions" usually follow when I reveal the retail price of the the original watch

    Happy timekeeping!

  3. Mention the Cricket ... and you can't get off the subject of insects. We have had butterflys (sic), mosquitos, and now locusts. What next?

As Mr Pugwash, quite rightly, pointed out to me, when you go into bat, you should be sure that your grammar, spelling and syntax are correct, unless you wish to appear to be a total plonker.

Don't bother with the spell-check. Employ your education. That is what it is for.

Resisting the urge to apply insect epithets would be appreciated.

  4. Mosquitoes is Plurl for Mosquito my dear Clive..though I have always thought

those that had to resort to the red spelling marker, had nothing left in retort...

Which to me,... is the ultimate definition of 'Silly'...

Just for the record, I was not referring to you.... though if you take insult from it..

that's a matter between you and the mirror....

This is more than about watches... for some of us.. it's about holding together a community...

or none of us would have the luxury of these watches you keep mentioning...

Richard, I have been collecting replicas for a very long time. I have seen forums rise and forums fall. I have seen dealers come and go. The only constant is that some of the collectors who preceeded me - and who helped me along the way - are still with us. And you will find them on all the boards. They are not territorial... they just enjoy watches.

P.S. Did you notice that a review of the Vulcain Cricket has been requested on RWG1? I believe that you own one of these watches. Your comments would be appreciated.

  5. eLink: I always wondered if it's easy to read a regulateur.

I understand that originally "regulateurs" were wall clocks that were installed in watchmaking workshops, so that the watchmakers could easily and accurately set time on their watches. The regulateur layout ensures that the hour and minute hands are never in conflict, so accurate timesetting of a workpiece is ensured.

And yes, from experience and use, I can asure you that reading a regulateur becomes instinctive, within a few moments of strapping one on one's wrist. Those first few moments grow into minutes as you gaze upon the beauty of the timepiece... you may not know what time it is - but you look at your watch several times each minute. And sigh...

  6. Here it is Sir, just for you:

    t

    Better late than never.

Have you tried Tesco's Vratislav lager? ###### fine stuff (and I am my instinct a bitter drinker) and only one pound English a bottle.

However, I maintain that my typos are a result of my palendromic rheumatism, not the beer.

And it is wicked to mock the aflicted.

  7. If you're going to be pedantic, at least don't make any grammatical errors in your corrective posts.

    Its = Belongs to it

    It's = It is

    :Jumpy:

C'mon... I let Mr Tracy get away with "owes".. even though it put my teeth on edge. "Butterflies" was (were?) too much to bear.

  8. Thank you, Sir. I stand corrected on the missing apostraphe.

Meanwhile... some of the "necrophiliacs, Athena poster collectors and bloodsuckers" on RWG1 have requested a user review of the Vulcain Cricket. I believe that Mr Tracy has one..

I wonder if he would care to oblige?

  9. I have three different versions of this watch. Beautiful.

But "fantastic" does not go far enough.

One of mine - my favourite - sat on my wrist for an entire month, without adjusment.

At the end of thirty days, it was within one minute of correct time.

    I want a COSC certificate!

  10. I should add that for our native-French speaking members, a few anonymous calls to the French douane (customs bureau) concerning a Mr. Boner (we have his real name and address) who is importing fake French and Swiss watches from China will be suseptible to getting this jerk into a lot of hot water

C'mon, guys... don't lets be limited by the truth.

    Let your imagination run riot.

With a little creativity, we could get the Gendarmes pulling up his floorboards and digging his garden... :D

  11. I like all the forums and tend to visit each in turn, according to my mood, for each has a personality of its own. OK, RepFanatic hasn't really taken off yet... but give it time.

All the others are well established and each is excellent at what they do. I certainly hold no allegiance to one over another and dispair when I hear members of one forum disparaging members of another.

    Necrophillics?

C'mon, give us a break. It's about enjoying watches, not starting a fatwa.

  12. @Rob... my apologies, I didn't mean to be offensive, just expressing an opinion. I don't like the diamond pattern - in my view the natural grain of leather needs no enhancement.

I understood that all this leather had this pattern - I am pleased to hear that I was mistaken.

From the photos I can see that the craftmanship is excellent... and so perhaps I will consider buying one - without the diamond pattern, of course.
