  1. You took a Ginault and replaced the dial thereby removing the semi mythical desert sand collected from under the Blackpool Big Dipper? You brave and extraordinary man you. Only the power of the Brotherhood of SH protects you from the curse of the ‘Mercian Mummy Drill the lugs, Drill the lugs! You know you want to.
  2. I won’t ask about that holiday, but they do look awfully simian to you 🐒
  3. I’m a doctor of robotics with a degree in electronics and a life long geek, you don’t necessarily have to show me😀 Seriously I be good around here unless I’m on a mission, then I’m a ‘king nightmare
  4. Hey guys, I’m genuinely touched by the sentiment, but in the words of the much loved and twice dead Neil “ain’t ma birthday”. I have one coming up next month on WUS, I think. Google saluted me on the 1st April and many other fora and websites have random dates. Because this place is close close to my heart it comes nearest to the truth. Subtract one from each column 😜 Seriously I see the usernames and I do count you guys as friends. I know most of your real names as you know mine, I’ve seen pictures of your children. I am truly blessed to know you and many other great guys and even a couple of girls in this hobby and it remains a joy to be here. Oh and @nanuq I don’t need to get younger, I’m beautiful as I am. However I sometimes wonder about what kind of a World you mere humans are going to leave me and the cockroaches.
  5. Welcome to our community. Really you are better off answering most of these questions for yourself. Opinion is split on 2824 vs 3135, and which is the better replica is largely a matter of opinion. There is a list of our TDs here:- https://rwg.cc/forum/230-watches-clothing-parts-accessories/ I see you have only joined 18 minutes ago, I strongly suggest you spend at least a couple of evenings reading threads that interest you and gaining some knowledge on the hobby before rushing into a purchase. Experience has shown that those who don’t often have unrealistic expectations and end up disappointed and disillusioned, while those that take time to learn a little first generally have a more satisfying purchase experience. I have endless patience with people new to the hobby, partly because I was once new to this game myself. Our members will be happy to help you learn and understand and we do know how confusing it can seem in the beginning, but simply telling you “buy product X from this dealer” isn’t really helping you and anyone that is keen to do that is probably on commission, which we are not.
  6. All very true, but if your intention was to make that look like a Jeep Rubicon you would have failed miserably.? Maybe just me, but all that machining on a Cartel case would seem to me more use on welding and redrilling the crown at the correct height. Each to their own and there have been some great Cartel based builds, but the crown height is a dead give away and by the time anyone has figured out the HEV is a dummy they might well have spotted that it is not a Rolex movement inside. Anyway Mister Built not Bought, I happen to know you have bought parts from Phong, Ruby, Tonnywatches and even the nameless one. Anyone with the skills and tools to fit a working HEV, raise the crown height, shape the case and the tricky to get right crown guards, fair play. For those of us using a modder for some or all of the work, buying better parts to begin with gives a better and more cost effective result.
  7. Just to play Devil’s Advocate here, but when you have paid for all this fancy machining it’s still a Cartel case and may have a working HEV or the appearance of a working HEV that nobody outside a small number of deep water professional divers are ever going to need. Why not just put the money into a Ruby case set which is $400-450 and gen spec?
  8. Yep, still got two Shitinerand models.
  9. The Black Bay is quite a bulky watch and I find it sits too high and unbalanced on my small wrist with a NATO. I prefer an RAF pull through and love the Helenarou Bond version. Other than that, go for it, there is nothing to loose really
  10. As Mike says the different factories.have different specialties. For a modern Sub you should consider the Noob V7, for the 16610 the JF is the best currently available. If you are looking for a vintage piece, the answer is not so straight forward
  11. Generally speaking Customs aren’t particularly looking for counterfeit goods coming from the USA, so anything posted with a low declared value sails straight through.
  12. Phong, Jensen and MQ are the old guard, but I’m betting this is from Ruby http://rubyswatch.com/Products/watch-cases/gm-1675 about half the price What movement @rolojack? 2836 or DG?
  13. Damn, sorry about that. It is hard to keep track of everyone. Please tell me you are from a German speaking canton or have I made a royal ass of myself?
  14. Number one girlfriend is currently being a major PITA, it happens with women, stand well back and throw chocolate. A philosopher I am rather fond of, one Robert Marley, said “If she is easy, she is not worth it and if she is worth it she won’t be easy”. Not going to kill her any time soon.
  15. Any of the known guys in the US, you do know you have brothers in Europe who would be happy to help source any weird metric tools?
  16. Welcome to our community, we have a few members from Germany. Brothers @docthor @sputim For two. Also a very fine watchsmith and modder. Enjoy your time here and don’t be afraid to join any discussion, we are friendly and flame free.
  17. Soon there will be more French vintage Rolex than Swiss ? I love your work and wouldn’t flip that anytime soon if it were mine
  18. A fellow Yorkshireman. Don’t need to google him Oh and why we Care doesn’t take lateral thinking?
  19. @Yllekp just told me Sead has these at $119.00 which is good to know. Throw nothing away, practice dial ageing, reluming or pass it on. Someone might be glad of a dial or 21j movement. The bracelet on mine helped out a brother in Australia
  20. Here you go L. Cheap as chips https://www.pf-828.com/rlsv00201-vintage-60s-5513-submariner-ss-ss-black-a-2813.html
  21. Happy Easter everyone
  22. I’m a hoarder. I have never sold a watch, ever. My watch issues pale into insignificance compared to my book fetish.
  23. Totally agree on the original Black Bay. I bought version one with the lume mismatch. It’s a good looking watch and does get compliments, but it is a bit too big and definitely too think, it feels kind of top heavy and unbalanced. I really like it but don’t wear it much
