  1. It's a beauty. Whenever I see a five digit next to a six digit I'm always struck by how crude the design of the six digit case looks. I tried on a six digit hulk at a friendly dealers yesterday, I loved the dial and ceramic, but I couldn't help wishing that Rolex had built a few intermediate models using the older midcase.
  2. Ssteel is English, but he lives in Finland. Message him, I don't think post is a problem. Other than that I don't know of an English watch smith on here.
  3. Generally it is best to consider any rep not water proof. However they can be made water proof. Check the seals are good, grease them with silicone and then pressure test the watch. Any of our watch smiths should be able to do that for you if you wish.
  4. Welcome to the forum. I think the pictures are likely to be essentially the same as what you will receive from these sellers. Pam reps are generally very good and many are virtually indistinguishable from genuine. Some Omega reps are also very good, notably the Planet Ocean models. However the Speedmaster is not a great replica. The sub dial spacing is not at all the same as the genuine. Also the watch has a 7750 movement. There is a problem in that the native sub dial positions on a 7750 are 6,9,12 and they have been moved to 3,6,9 by means that are not exactly elegant from a watchmaking point of view and this can lead to reliability issues. In the end the choice is yours to make. Can you live with the sub dials being further from the centre than on the genuine watch? I have a Speedmaster and I also have a replica Snoopy. I'm not too upset about the sub dial position as I see the Snoopy as just a bit of fun.
  5. Welcome. When I started out it took me a while to figure out .cc and .bz as well.
  6. I can only wish you the very best of success in overcoming alcohol issues. I've a history of outages myself and although it is now under control, I didn't follow anything like a normal recovery program.
  7. Welcome to the forum. We are normally a pretty laid back group here, but as you now know a few members have recently been rolled by scammers and we all a bit jumpy. As our esteemed @Legend has said you seem very much like the kind of member we would like to have.
  8. Welcome to the forum. To find a list of reputable sellers, go to the to left of this page, click browse, then forum. Scroll a long way down until you find watches, clothing and accessories. Here you will find trusted dealers. Also at the top right of any page, type Seamaster 300 into the search box and read up on the subject. To the best of my knowledge there isn't an outstanding replica of that model, but it depends what you can live with. I'm happy enough with mine faults and all.
  9. Well I no Speedy expert, but I've never seen a replica with correct dial spacing and the movement looks like an 861, which is based on a Lemania calibre. I found this:- http://www.speedywatches.com/reference-section/movements/ It says in the text that 861 is a 17 jewel movement and yet the accompanying pictures have 18 jewels engraved on them!
  10. Best wishes for a smooth transfer. Once you are installed I would love to see a couple of pictures if you don't mind.
  11. Very nice indeed. My first thoughts were 335, but the body didn't look big enough, probably the angle of the photo'. I think there are a few of us have a guitar problem here :-)
  12. Spacedweller, Les Paul and what looks like a 339, a man with impeccable taste.
  13. I'm still figuring out vintage Panarai myself, but there is a lot of information on Homage Forum if you are not already a member. Dont forget to let us see.
  14. @Nanuq I don't know where it leaves us. I wish I did, I've thrown a few suggestions out, but truthfully none of them really fly. As a buyer I haven't had much feedback left on this or any other forum. I kind of hope some of the guys I've bought bits from would say I'm a stand up guy if I ever need it. Maybe community reputation points might count for, something. All I know is it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, when guys I consider friends get ripped off on a deal. I'm sure I'm not alone there. It's bad enough with Custom risks because we are not supposed to be buying this stuff.
  15. I guess I knew that Mike, it was kind of a knee jerk reaction to another member getting screwed.
  16. It's hard to imagine the mentality that would spend so much time and effort on this. I couldn't be bothered to,put that much effort into an online campaign if I had genuinely been wronged. Life is too short and I have family and friends to spend my time with.
  17. @Sbybbuser sickened to hear this. It is hard to know what to do when a long standing member goes rogue like this. Maybe run our own escrow account?
  18. Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends
  19. Aged nine I was obsessed by robots and spent much time building them out of cardboard. It didn't qualify me as a doctor of robotics, that came much later, but it did develop my interest. Neither the OP nor I said anything more than hobby interest. Hobbies can lead to full time jobs with commitment to developing skills, but I really, really hope not in my case:-)
  20. Agreed, I found this and other online tutorials some time ago and although my practical skills didn't really improve, my understanding of how a watch works and what needs servicing did.
  21. Welcome to our special little club
