  1. Yes, it seems the longer this thread stays open, the more we find out about our fellow collectors and ourselves. I think this is a very educational thread. As valuable even (dare I say it) as Phoband's Thoughts On The Forum And Collecting, and Edge's Guide To Replica Forums 1. Shows what happens when you're too quick to pull the trigger on airing dirty laundry in public (FF) 2. Rush to judgment and mob cry to crucify the unnamed Lanakai (first 500 people to respond to FF) without knowing the facts. Next 200 people begging for the thread to be closed after they realize how stupid they were for: 1. starting this thread when they shouldn't have 2. jumping on the mob bandwagon before they got the facts 3. just being clueless If any topic has ever deserved to be pinned, it is this one.
  2. You make a quarter million dollars a year and are building the perfect PAM? A lot of people were calling to close this thread - I thing TT was right to leave it open. You get my vote to pin it.
  3. I sent the guy an email telling him that "chronographe" means stopwatch and that $15 000 watches aren't chrome plated brass (check out the pic of the back he just uploaded). Also the conquitador chrono would have a date window at 6 o'clock. He then filed a complaint against me and ebay sent me a warning.
  4. Now that part was just f*cking hilarious!!!
  5. No he didn't, what he did do is stick it in your O-ring. Do you feel it, guanaco?
  6. They're wrong -look at the pics above from identity and below from ultimatum How can you ignore the 2-6-10 chrono and giant rotating bezel?
  7. Yes there is. (if not a good one) He's not wearing a calibre 36. I've never seen a good rep of this.
  8. If a few people who had white Asian versions took pics of their watches it would probably help a lot of people in their decision. The pics don't have to be from the same source, as long as there are similar conditions. Obviously no one's going to buy 2 versions of the same watch (unless they bought the Asian one first and it really is that bad.
  9. That's all fine and dandy, but how can one compare a white dial with AR to a black dial without? I wish someone had the same version (i.e 2 whites, or 2 blues) to compare side by side.
  10. It would be no different the the current Carrera reps. Which, by the way is what it sounds like you're describing, Tagman. You sure it was a link he got?
  11. That's what I mean, I ordered the white one, but instead was sent the crappy one the dealers here have (the dial looks like a BCE, with the wrong subdials and print), I sent it back freaking on the guy and he told me they only had black and blue and that white was never made, so I took the white one. I paid almost $400 for mine, but nobody had it back then. Even though it's not the most accurate rep. I think you got an awesome deal. This is mine. I left it on the bracelet 'cause of its pure bling factor.
  12. I bought this watch a little over a year ago. It gets A LOT of attention. People stare, friends make comments, kids eyeball it and whisper to each other. The lack of AR really sucks on this. Funny, I ordered the white one and the guy I got it from said they were only going to make blue and black at the time (don't know if that changed). Apparently I was lucky to get it back then 'cause some dolt decided to make a thousand of these with the wrong dial (the one from the BCE). Looks great on the leather, by the way. Enjoy!
  13. I definitely would not use a Cape Cod on anything but polished SS. It will wear the plating down to the steel on anything plated, and will even polish out the brushed effect on brushed stuff.
  14. It's a Link Calibre 36 *EDIT* actually, it appears to be the link chrono quartz - the sight I got the pic from called it a calibre 36
  15. I did notice that (from the pictures) Andrew's sea dweller double red ($198) comes on a vintage bracelet with rivets while silix's ($130) is on a new style flip lock oyster. But if you're going to ruin the look of a "vintage" watch by putting in an incorrect high beat ETA movement that's too fast for the time period, then it's all poo. *edit* pirate beat me to it - didn't know Silix offered a straight swap for rivets, I might have to go for one after I get my first order from him.
  16. I had this on my first gen 45mm planet ocean withe the incorrect 20mm lugs. I had to take the watch apart and wipe it all off the crystal. It looked like what a watch would look like if you could blow a puff of smoke in it then seal it up.
  17. If I'm not mistaken, the 0S20 is the movement used in 99% of cheap quartz chrono's, from reps to Wal-mart specials, with hour-minute-second totalizers, but no split seconds, so despite the positioning of the words "swiss made" being wrong, I think Silix's is a much better deal. I loved the white one too, but the only place I found a mention of it in the entire net was on an eBay forum where the buyer was told it was fake by his watch smith, so I ordered tyhe same model azerbyjam is reviewing (still waiting.....)
  18. I'd say send it back, but contact the seller first and see what they can do. I always wondered, if it was damaged in transit - you can't really file an insurance claim for a "fake" watch, so shouldn't the seller be responsible?
  19. Thanks, I got (what I think is) a great deal on it. $400CAD delivered but the UPS guy raped me for another $160 in taxes and fees somehow (though you couldn't get an box that winds 8 watches and holds 12 more for anywhere near that anywhere I've seen in Canada). I give all my watches the "white glove treatment", even my $50 Chinese sea dweller I've had for 5 years now. Still waterproof after all this time (it's my hot tub watch)
  20. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...em=170135881326 Check out his feedback. Looks like he got that last sucker banned for refusing to pay for one of his fakes.
  21. I know, I know. I did the research, read the posts, etc. I know the movement will probably crap out in 6 months or so. But I think this is one of the coolest watches ever made! (and I only paid $185 for it including 3 day delivery by fedex) My cheesey attempt at being artistic: Mandatory wrist shot: Man, watches are really hard to photograph.
  22. The pattern is extremely visible on his black one, but visibly absent on the blue model.
  23. Short of replacing the entire bracelet (which is probably the best option), you could probably try using resin (2 part epoxy) or metal glue. Put a tiny bit in the holes on the end piece, and then put it together. As long as you don't use too much and it doesn't get into the mid-link, you should be able to work the stiffness out of it since it's just sitting on the pin, and not attached to it.
  24. Yeah, my rep is like a friggin mirror, and has a closed 4 on the rider tab.
  25. Sweet! That's my favourite watch. I only have a rep. Lucky you!
