  1. There is really no way for them to ever do it as a working watch. I really can't see how. I suppose they could have a regular Asian movement in there and then glue wheels and jewels onto the single hand to make it look like a movement but I don't see how else...

There would still be the winding/time setting part to work out though.

  2. The COSC thing is one of those things that pisses me off when I see people, especially on here, refer to their watch as running within COSC specs. The COSC specs state more than just the plus four minus six or plus six minus four whatever the hell it is range, they also specify temperature differences and case rotation, things we really can not test ourselves. And yet people still talk about how their watch is within COSC because they let it sit on the nightstand and it runs fine.

I think their response was acceptable, COSC specs in addition to being insanely specific is also an added cost.

  3. Really strange conversation today with the local watchmaker, went to get the Link resized as I don't have the tools at university and he only identified it was fake because the links are attached very differently to the gen. Wanted to know where I got the watch from/was impressed.

What model Link? Because every one I have seen on here duplicated the genuine perfectly.

  4. Cool story Laz, as a kind of off topic side note: I had my sub called out last night by a friend of mine running his finger over the date mag and saying that on the gens it's not even slightly 'sharp' on the edges..

I don't pass it off to be gen so it didn't bother me, just interesting that this 'flaw' isnt talked about much..

I guess the general consensus on the boards is we all figure someone should be able to tell a gen from a fake just from the 'feel' in general though.. Not sure how true that is though really..

I can't say whether or not your friend is correct, but usually people have some dumb ass tell on a Rolex that is a figment of their imagination and they get lucky sometimes. If I handed a gen Submariner to 100 people on the street, 95 of them would say it is fake because the bracelet is too cheap feeling.

  5. Datewheels should fit fine, and I think the rotor may as well. I seem to remember someone, I think it was Defender110, had a Tag Carerra with a Swiss 7750 and the rep rotor as it had the Tag Heuer engraving on it.

  6. Slam the door on them and you automatically get added to their Do Not Disturb list.

In all honesty the reason I posted what I did is because when I was growing up my mom and dad went to a Jehovah's witness church maybe three times and the pastor and his family came to visit every Sunday for about the next five years. Mom and dad usually let them in and heard them out but I also remember more than a few times we all hid in the basement and let on like no one was home.

Dad also let a couple of Morman's into the house and even read the book of Morman that they provided. My folks were pretty open minded in regards to religion, I suppose that is part of the reason I became an atheist.

  7. I don't find it any more morbid than people buying war collectibles...in particular weapons...in fact...the Titanic series IMHO is significantly less creepy than that. The fervor by which people buy Nazi items is freaky...and this is by people who aren't even remote sympathizers (at least I hope not!!).

Those items have not been reproduced into a (grossly overpriced) luxury item, they are simply items in history. I find a difference there.

  8. Morbid as it is, watch companies will always use history in its favour to achieve profit margins.

That said, I have held an RJ piece in flesh. Very heavy watch. If you reckon a Panerai 187 1000m Submersible at 200+ grams to be weighty, an RJ is on par, if not heavier.

What amazes me about RJ is the rubber strap they have on their offerings, very soft and "stretchable" makes it a comfortable strap for those in tropical climate.

Titanic...branding to market in hope of $$$ reaping.

I don't mind history being used to sell watches. I don't have a problem with Panerai selling watches based on their history of being used by the Italian military, don't have a problem with Omega selling a watch because it was worn on the moon landing, I don't even have a problem with Tag Heuer using a movie icon who has passed on (Steve McQueen) to sell the Monaco. I do have a problem when the company uses materials from a historical event that killed so many, materials that should be left in place as a memory of the accident. Instead we get this garish watch that I am sure everyone who owns about will brag where the metal came from. It used to be you would buy a gold Rolex to show off, now you can buy metal from a boat that killed people. I can see it now:

Kim - "Wow Paris, that watch is like totally awesome"

Paris - "I know right, it is totally Titanic metal, this watch is made of part of a boat that killed people"

    Kim "Awesome"

    Paris - "I know, it's hot!"

Thanks but no thanks. I would buy a watch made from RJ's casket however.

  9. I agree about the titanic thing too,

but forget about that for a minute and look at the fine details, absoloutly amazing

I am unable to "forget" the Titanic aspect as that is the main draw for them in selling these watches. The whole damn line is named "Titanic"! If the fine details are so great they should not need a gimmick like the poorly chosen Titanic steel that is worn around as a gaudy fashion item.

  10. Two points:

The bezel on this model can not be rotated. Let's put that to rest.

Second point is, it is getting pointless to compare reps to gens using photos from the manufacturer websites as many INTENTIONALLY create flaws on their own photos to throw off rep makers who reproduce watches from photos. It is not uncommon for them to add wrong numbers or adjust colors for the website to throw the factories off.

  11. ...There is a lot more to the size thing than a number

I have been telling my Mrs. that for years!

Seriously, RobbieG has a point here. I have seen watches sizes grow to be too large in my opinion and people get in pissing matches on some forums about how a Skyland is too small and "real men" wear Super Avengers. It is all a bunch of crap. Real men don't need a watch size to prove themselves. When I bought my first Omega Seamaster Professional I thought it was a pretty good sized watch and now it is viewed as tiny.

I have read a few articles in magazines and what not speculating on the big watch trend coming to an end, in today's economy it is no longer cool to flash your 48mm bling machine around in public. Trends come and go but the smaller and understated Cartier Tank is always classy and they don't get much smaller than those.
