  1. Just wondering. I can't find a GTG section and search for "GTG" found nothing. Also, I was unable to submit a Shoutbox message to ask.
  2. Jeremiah, There are at least four good watchsmiths in Houston who provide service to our members' watches. Which is good for you may simply depend on where you live in Houston and in which part of the city is a conveniently located watchsmith. I use the watchsmith at The Masters's Workshop, 1410 Blalock, 714.468.1472. They have always been very competent and reasonable. I have never asked them to waterproof a watch, however; so I don't kniow their capacity to do that specific thing for you. I know there is another in the Sharpstown area and another in the Galleria area, but I don't have the specifics on those folks. Come see us at our next GTG in Houston. If you haven't sorted out a watch repair service supplier by them, several members at the GTG will be able to provide you alternatives. Best wishes and good luck.
  3. BTW, Josh has confirmed the BeginYachtMaster he offers IS from the noob factory. If Josh carries noob factory merchandise then Andrew does, as well.
  4. Thank you, Mac. Looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming GTG.
  5. I would like to identify a dealer who serves CONUS. I have been unable to reliably identify the specific dealers who provide this watch, and other reps from the noob factory. Thanks.
  6. Be sure you do not put glue at the joint where the bezel rotates or you will have a niceinsert in a bezel that no longer rotates. Put glue only to the outside edge of the insert.
  7. I can tell you about one at about Blalock and WestView ... West side, north of I10, but not far Northwest. Let us know if your are interested in this one, if someone does not come forward with one at a better location for you. You were not at our GTG a few weeks ago? Too bad. Maybe you can make the next one, in April.
  8. ForcedHorse, Welcome! Glad to see another member from the Houston Area. The Houston members just had a gathering this past Saturday, at the Black Labrador on Montrose. A good time was had by all. Sorry you missed it! However, we expect to have another meeting - probably at the same place - about mid-april. Hope you came make that meeting. Looking forward to meeting you. Best regards.
  9. We had 11 members attend, plus two wives and three kids. We all had a great time! Those who attended came from RWG, RWI, AND RepGeek. I am astounded at the watch knowledge and wisdom that gets collected into one room when these folks get together! I learn sooo much. There seemed to be a consensus that we should hold Houston meetings about once a quarter. On that basis we will meet again about mid-April. I think we have some pictures that will get posted shortly. What great fun! Thanks, watch folks!!
  10. I am sure looking forward to seeing everyone. I am going to bring a few watches, some tools, some movements ... we'll spend a little time together| Yuk Yuk! Those who are going to be there sing out. Let's hear it from those who will be attending. Will we have about 15 again? Best regards to all.
  11. The asian movements in my reps are certainly among the most accurate timekeepers I have.
  12. Dennis, a very generous suggestion! I will bring the watch and some tools. We'll have a good time ... and sort this out. See you there.
  13. Not on this one ... maybe it is not an ETA mvt. However looks just like the ones on the ETA website. In any case the center hub of the rotor bearing (with ball bearings, like the one in KBH's photo) does not have a srew in the center and no screw hole. I did take the back off one of my other rolexes which is also supposed to be an ETA mvt and observed that was just like the Sub I was working on. I think I have fixed it anyway. Clear nail polish. I used clear nail polish on the edges of the rotor hole - which fits over the rotor bearing hub - and a couple of droplets applied by toothpick at the junction of the rotor and the rotor bearing hub. Seems to be holding okay for now. Sorry, I don't have a digital camera of sufficient quality to take a pix of the watch to post. Certainly one of the items high on my "to get" list. Thank you all for your help.
  14. I have looked at the online pictures at ETA.ch of these movements. I see no screw in the middle to retain the rotor ... and no screw around the rotor bearing hub that might retain the rotor. I do see a screw in the middle on DG2813 asian movements and all of the asian self-winding mechanicals, but not on the ETA movements. Am I incorrect? I would have thought there was some sort of screwed retaining mechanism on the ETAs but I dont see it either on the movement I have in hand nor in illustrations online.
  15. We have the Cezanne Room (upstairs ... same room as last time) reserved at the Black Labrador, Saturday, 17 January, 4100 Montrose, Houston. Looking forward to seeing every one again! Bring watches, smiles, and stories about your hobby adventures.
  16. I have a Submariner with an ETA movement. The rotor is loose and I cannot get it to stay in place. I cannot see any place where the rotor is screwed in place; it looks like the rotor is just pressed onto the winding post but it won't stay. I have tried using GS cement. That didn't work. I am trying Locktite Blue right now, but I am not sure that will work. I have considered tapping the brass rotor to narrow the hole that fits onto the winding post to see it I can make that fit more snugly. I have searched for any discussion of a similar problem and have found none. I have found discussion of using structural epoxy to glue some pieces. Haven't tried that yet. Surely there is some better fix for this problem. Thanks for advice and help. I have other subs. I may opeen them up to see if I can see useful clues. Opps, that won't work; those other Subs use DG2813 movements.
  17. I have one I bought on ebay From JapanWatchCenter, HongKong $90.00US +30shipping=$120.00. It is a very nice watch.
  18. Don't forget to make reservations for the Churchill room, so we will have a good place to meet. Thanks, Dennis, for pushing this forward.
  19. The general date (Jan 16/17) sounds okay. I think Bill Vest also suggested mid January for our next meeting. You might want to hear from Bill and ensure he and others who work out-of-town will be able to make those dates. Sunday would work okay for me, as well. We are always going to have some who can't make a Saturday and some - perhaps - who can't make a Sunday But trying Sunday seems a reasonable plan. As to location: there are advantages to having our meetings at the same place each time ... folks know where it is and how to get there ... we already have identified a place where we can get access to a private room, important I think for our meetings. Meeting elsewhere than the Black Lab is okay providing most folks can get to it and we have access to private meeting space and can get a nice lunch and good service. I like the idea of an agenda, some way to have an orderly discussion in which all will be able to contribute and have their questions or issues treated. In order to do that we will need to have someone act as moderator to manage the organized meeting time. We have discussed having an agenda before. I thought we were prepared to hold a more formal, managed discussion last time but it didn't happen. If we are going to do that, that must be understood at the beginning of the gathering, I think.
  20. This morning my grandson called me to tell me he has lost the insert out of his black submariner (purchased from Josh). Since I am his resorce for maintenance on the watches I have given him, he wants to know how to handle this. By searching the forum, I learned of a reasonable suggestion to get a replacement insert on ebay. I have looked there and find both snap-in and stick-on options. The stick-on option looks very attractive to me because one does not have to worry much about precise fit. Is there a strong preference to one or the other of these options? That is, is there some reason I should choose one over the other?
  21. Today's the day! Hope everybody can make it ... and I hope somebody brings a camera so we can get some pictures we can post to the forum.
  22. Looking forward to seeing _everybody_ there next Saturday! Who is coming? Speak out. Let's hear from you.
  23. Welcome, Texan! Where in Texas (big place, you know!) ? I am from Houston. There is a Houston local gathering planned this coming Saturday, 22nd. If you are from the Houston area, I invite you and hope you will attend. For details look at the announcement of the upcoming Houston GTG in the GTG section of the forum. In any case, enjoy your time with this forum, this great source of information and pleasure in this hobby. Best regards!
  24. We have the Churchill Room reserved at the Black Lab. For those who may not know, the Black Lab is located at 4100 Montrose. Come with questions you have wanted to ask your RWG friends; they will be there! We'll have a good discussion about our experiences with the forum and our watches. And the food and drink is pretty good, too! (The Black Lab is a great restaurant.) What watches do you want others to bring so you can see and handle them ... or state questions now you may want others to come prepared to answer. Let's get everybody there! Looking forward to being there myself and seeing you all.
