  1. Thanks to the intersession of vbarret, I have heard from Silix, via RWG PM. Silix was very apologetic about missing the order, very friendly yet very business-like. I received notice of both amount to pay and instruction for making payment. I have made payment. Now, we will see how well delivery works from Silix. Thank you, Victoria. I do have another, subsequent order planned for Silix.
  2. How 'bout ... "I just like them." I wear a different watch every day or two. I change from silver watches to gold when I change from black/blue/gray clothes to earth-tone clothes. Nobody cares ... none of my workmates ... nobody notices ... but me, and I care. Just a matter of style, and personal satisfaction for the look. Maybe that personal trait that caused the Shah to say "Look at my fancy stuff!" was a part of the Shah's downfall.
  3. I issued an order on the Silix-Prime site 2 weeks ago. when I was ready to checkout, there was a message that I should send an email with the order number in the subject field, to get instructions on how to pay by paypal. I sent that email that evening. I didn't hear anything for 3-4 days so I re-sent that message with a question: "Hello?". Then I saw a post on the forum about how slow Jay is about responding to orders, let alone to miscellaneous emails. Then, I saw the post by LordRasta that he had ordered from Jay only to have his order comie zinging in to him within a week of his order. ... Its been two weeks since I ordered; I have heard nothing. I there something I have overlooked? ... anything I should do? Is this "normal" for Jay. This is the first time I will have ordered from Silix so I have no earlier experience to use as a guide. I just checked; my order is still sitting in my shopping cart on the Silix site. Suggestions, please?
  4. The Zigmeister, Is there a place where one may buy these movements on the open market? I notice Ofrei does not show any. Some other place? ... where an open market price is quoted?
  5. I know that YOU love that Steelfish. You should wear that which reflects YOU. Wear the Steelfish. This is your first week. show 'em who you are! You are PUGWASH, Master of the machine!
  6. Interesting. And, as you say, this is regularly discussed, with each discussion suggesting there is some kind of standard pattern of maturing replica collection tastes. I think there is not. I think it starts with and always remains a uniquely individual set of choices. When I started about six months ago, I had scrounged the gen sites ... visited the ADs ... crawled all over the internet to identify the watches I wanted. And ... "I have to have one of those ... and that one ... and, oh yes, I must have one of those." I included two rolexes among my selection of a dozen watches I wanted to own. Most were Omegas. I learned by listening to the discussions on the forum about some other watches that I had not earlier known about or selected. I found I really am not very interested in the "standard" super reps that the forum buzzes about. I have not one among my selections ... no SFSO ... not one Panerai. As to the watches with subdials and complications, using the A7750, I now have two of them and find I am not as enthused about them as earlier. I have them because I thought the watch was a beautiful thing. I do have two more A7750-based watches on my list yet to get - because there is something about the way the watch looks or will fit into my wardrobe - but most remaining are of lesser complication. and each remaining does something for me in the mix of my wardrobe ... a nice gold dress watch ... a titanium case and bracelet that will be a change of pace from time to time. The two original rolexes remain my targets to be my daily regular wear ... well, one daily and one is a companion watch with a little bling in it for more elegant occassions. At this point I find myself eliminating watches from my list of target watches. "I already have one very close to that one ... Why, I wont wear that enough to keep it exercised. Why have a watch if you are not going to wear it?" In one case I have found there is no replica of one of the watches I wanted ... very frustrating! So ... yes, our collection targets change with time but, for me, not much ... and the basis of my choices has not really changed much. Maybe after I have been collecting for a year ... or two ... my views will change. Actually, I think after i get the watches on my list I will back away from aquiring watches. I want to be able to maintenace the watches i will have and maybe buy one watch a yea, more likely a vintage gen ... something I truly "can't do without" in the context of what I will wear. Oh, yes. I have no interest in modifying my watches in any significant way. Strange collector, eh?
  7. I have a 1975ish Omega Seamaster with day-date, silver dial which I bought on ebay for about $300, delivered. I had it serviced by my watchsmith here (Houston) for $90, including a $25 part they replaced. I will be going back into ebay for a 1965ish plaiin silver dial Omega Seamaster. I expect to pay something in the $200-300 range on ebay, including bracelet or strap, delivered. Yours seems likely to he a very early version ... perhaps in the late 50s. If you get the serial number off the case you can go to the Omega site and probably find the year in which it was made. You have a gem! Enjoy it.
  8. Congratulations on your first buiy. Most of all ... enjoy your collection ... remember, YOU are the one who must be satisfied with your choices.
  9. Recent findings among authoritative sources specify the Brietling Calibre 41 is based on the ETA 2892-A2.
  10. And I want more people to have the opportunity to experience the elegance that can be available to them in a watch they can afford. Do I care if "one more person" learns about reps? ... Should I care? Actually all I care about is whether _I_ look good - to me, to my wife, to my friends - with my general appearance. I don't really want to represent that my reps are gens [nobody ever even thinks, or dares, to ask!] I only care about whether my reps please ME. Whatever respect I may garner from my friends and colleagues doesn't emanate from anything glittering on my wrist. If my reps do please me, I am happy if some other person finds pleasure in their reps, including you, Corgi. The more the merrier!!
  11. I have had a few watch storage "pouches" made of Pacific cloth, also called silversmith cloth ... the same material used in the storage pouches used to store sterling silver tableware. In fact, my watch storage pouches are patterned after these tableware store-and-roll-up things. I have some with 2 inch pockets and some with 2.5 inch pockets (for watches 40mm and up). Slip the watches in, one to a pocket, roll up the pouch and tie it up with a ribbon sown onto the pouch ... or for the ones which I use regularly, fold the pouch flap over the pockets and put the pouch in my desk drawer from which I can select the watch I will wear tomorrow morning. These pouches cost me about $6 each and each stores 6 watches, each nicely protected.
  12. I am not at all bitter at your response, truly glad to have your imput. The only thing I am bitter about ... well, not bitter really, just dismayed ... is that these choices are not available among our reps and I had hoped to have someone chime in to say, "Oh, but those are available at ...[somewhere I had not looked] " No such luck. Thanks.
  13. Rolex Day-Dates are 38mm. Most of my watches are 40mm or less. But you are saying the real answer to my questions is insufficient demand, for both. Frankly I just don't buy it. To field the Spruce green Bentley GT would require only the work to do one dial which is just a color change from already esisting dials ... surely not much of an effort to present the complete range of that product. And on the 38mm Montbrillant ... well, maybe you're right about that one, but that would be a shame. It is such a lovely watch. I think most of my watches will continue to be 38-40mm, with only a few larger than that. The Bentley GT will certainly be one of the larger ones. Like the old lady who kissed the cow ... Each to his own choosing, I guess.
  14. Watchbuff has asked about a more precise Navitimer. Since he has brought up the subject of fidelity of one of the very popular Brietling reps, I have similar questions about some should-be-popular Brietling reps that aren't available at all ... and this puzzles me. I would like to have a Brietling for Bentley GT - which is, of course, available - but one color dial seems not to be available: Spruce green. I would think that color with a nice brown strap would be a killer with earth-tone attire! I am surprised I cannot find it anywhere and make the assumprtion that I cannot get it even if I requested it. I presume this to be because of a low demand for this unusual color. ... still, it is just a dial color on the same base as already established. Secondly, the 38mm Navitimer Montbrillant Chrongraph is a beauty! ... but not available in any form as a rep that would be an acceptable replica ... at least not that my considerable searching can find. I have seen some offered that are 40mm, have ruinning seconds at 9, and purport to use japanese automatic movements. I have seem some which say they are 38mm but use japanese digital movements with running seconds at 9. I think the only ones I have seen which show seconds at 3 (which is the design of the gen) are 40mm and suggesting they are using japanese automatic movements. And I think those are from scam sites. None of our esteemed dealers present ANY 38mm Montbrillant Chronographs. I am obliged to conclude, therefore, the watch is not repped. Why not? In search of new knowledge ... always.
  15. Wow! Thanks, guys! I will have to bookmark some of these links. This does answer most of my questions. The pointer to Alpha-watch.com was worth the price of admission. Very impressive!!
  16. Where can one look to view the Seagull line of watches ... and if I see one or more that interests me, where to buy? I spent all day yesterday mining the internet trying to find access to any site that delivers this. Also searched thru the forum archives. Thanks. BTW, my understanding is that Seaagull in Tianjin just makes movements and there is a seperate assembly/manufacturing company (tjseagull ?) elswhere that makes the watches and sells them (or is there also a seperate sales company?). Does Seagull make the Asian 7750? Can one buy just movements?
  17. ... like those used in many of our chrono reps. Where can one go to buy these movements? Thanks.
  18. Thanks, Admin, for the reminder!
  19. But I have been looking for a rep Montbrillant. The 38mm model, not the Datora. Where should I look to find one of this model, please? Is there one produced?
  20. You mentioned you wanted a black or white dial ... maybe Omega. I encourage you to look at the Omega Broad Arrow in black. I recently received one. It is stunning looking! The Broad Arrow is a direct competitor to the Rolex Daytona, but I do like the Broad Arrow better. You can also check out the reviews of this watch in By-tor's Guide To Best Omega Replicas So many wonderful choices!
  21. Lots of good suggetions have been offered. And then there is a nice titanium IWC chrono at Silix-Prime. At 39mm it is not too bad. sort of like wearing a man's dress shirt around the house. I do hope your lady enjoys whatever lovely bauble you utimately decide to get.
  22. Careful. Look at the deals this seller has done. All are only since Sep 3, and all are each for pennys. Looks to me like a pattern to establish an apparent record of successful transactions. And look at the feedback on the penny transactions! Very exuberant for such biddy deals. There is no feedback anywhere where this seller sold anything, let alone anything of substance. You may want to appeal to the ebay security center for guidance. Given the poor quality of the pictures of the watch, I don't think you can tell whether it is genuine or not.
  23. Thank you, sssufer. That was very informative ... and offers some hope, if I decide to try that. Actually, I have found the exact and correct configuration on Josh's web site. But, thank you, very much.
  24. Further on getting buys into the US and Texas, in particular ... I have another watch inbound as we speak. It left China Sep 22. USPS tracking reported to me that the watch was "inbound to customs" on the morning of 23rd. Evening of the 23rd USPS tracking reported the package had "cleared customs at 3:37 PM". I expect the package to arrive at my door, perhaps, tomorrow, 25th. Now, this set of tracking information - interestingly - did not say the package had "cleared SFO customs" ... or was inbound to "SFO customs". At this time I don't know which customs port this package has come through. What I do know is that customs must just have waved a hand over it and passed it on through. I am interested to examine the package to see if I can learn which customs port processed it. Detailed tracking data indicates this watch came through SFO.
