  1. i think i have it too, given this hint.. i will pm you EDIT: Wrong.. I hate you again... actually maybe but i think it would take a really long time.. ok.. i will try the pm thing again...
  2. i could but i would have to kill you. seriously, where there are an even number of pirates ahead of you the combinations have to be both odd nos both even nos but the second guessor sees odd/even so the last guy calls out black if there are odd nos of both, and white if there are even nos of both. The second to last guy can see the odd color, knows the total are either odd or even and can deduce from there. eg: 100 hats 50 B 50W Last buy calls White to signify even nos of both colors second to last guy sees 50 B 49W he now knows his hat is white. the guy in front of him can deduce the color of his hat by knowing the color of the guy behind his and the number of hats of each color in front.
  3. Nice hint!!! just got it. the last guy sees the 99 hats in front of him. 99 is an odd number so that means there has to be an odd number of black or white hats but NOT BOTH!! in other words there has to be one odd and one even number of hats. He identifies the odd number of hats.. say black. The guy in front of him now knows there are an odd number of black hats in the bunch not includint th guy behind him.. he sees 98 hats in front of him... he cannot see his own. these 98 hats can be odd black, odd white even black even white he now knows there are an odd number of black hats all told including his, but not including the one behind him. - if he sees an even number of black hats ahead of him, he knows his hat is black - any odd number of colored hats cannot be his the third poerson now has 97 hats in front of him. he knows that of the 99 (excluding the last guy) there are an odd number of black hats, and the buy behind him (second gusser) has a black hat too. he can go through the same calculations as the second guy including what he learned from the second guy's guess. I want you to know i have not worked this hard all day!
  4. You're right... that doesn't make sense....
  5. each piratecounts the number of black and white hats ahead of him. the first guy to guess chooses the color of the guy immediately after him as his color. the next guy now knows his color and the number of B and W hats that remain. he calls his number. the third guy knows the number of B and W hats in front of him. he just needs to subtact the colors that the other two called out!!! The only thing i am not sure about is the first guy. He is calling out the second guy's color as his own. If he is wrong, will he know right away? If yes, the puzzle is solved!! in which case I would have to again remind you that "You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is, "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." But only slightly less well known is this, "Never go in against a Sicilian, when death is on the line." If not it is back to the drawing board in which case I think I will drink from a poisened goblet
  6. Just wait till i get started!! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is, "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." But only slightly less well known is this, "Never go in against a Sicilian, when death is on the line." it is definetly not a probability calculation because of the 'replacement' factor, i.e. the infinite number of hats of both colors. the first guy giving the answer is definetly the key.. somehow he needs to communicate not just with the guy in front of him, but with ALL the guys in front of him the key is not just with the one person in front of him, it is with all the guys in front of him... he has to use his guess as a means to start a communication chain.. that everyone else feeds from.... i just can't figure out how or what and it is driving me crazy... I HATE YOU FOR THIS!!
  7. Vizzini: Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me! sorry... i just saw a lot of similarity...
  8. that is kinda what i was trying to say... poorly....
  9. or even B B B, or W W W yeah, i know.. that is why i said it was ridiculous...
  10. i have a feeling they all people of science connection to paganism.
  11. well, i hope you are not suggesting that we start another shortest thread post here...
  12. The claim was not victory it was "peace with honor" and no one in their right mind ever thought it was anything but a euphemism. ps. yeah, i did. very embarrassing and certainly substantiating the view of the US centric American (being polite here).. on the other hand, whenever I see or read a piece like that, I cannot help but wonder if the respondents were cherry picked... i.e. how many people did they need to interview in order to get to the people they featured.. how many people answered intelligently and were not included etc... it is very easy to edit a piece like that to get to a desired outcome... That is the problem with generalizing... for instance I would NEVER use a clip like this to suggest that the British Military is incompetant because it is a generalization: Than again, we did elect Dubya i mean that truly is embarrassing.... sh!t, here is a man who bragged about never setting foot ourside US soil before hew was elected... There is just no suitable justification for electing Dubya. Anyway sorry about the thread crapping
  13. the only thing i can think of is that they would plan for the last pirate (first to answer) to answer with the color of the hat in front of him. Even if the guessor is wrong, he would be telling the next in line what color his hat is. the next guessor would indicate his color taking his clue from the previous answer, and than (if this is allowed) tell the next person the color he is wearing. So pirate 1: I am wearing BLACK Pirate 2 I am wearing Black and the guy in front of me is wearing White... etc... Maybe this isn't the right answer but unless I am reading the question wrong this is an instance of what is known as Probabliity with replacement" which means each pirate has a 50/50 chance of answering correctly otherwise. EDIT: Actually, that sounds ridiculous, even to me.
  14. true... and the french before that. ..
  15. in theory, yes. but it is not as easy to police as you think at least not for wire transfers. Large bank's maek hundreds of thousands of these payments a day to overseas correspondents. they track suspicous activities based on known security threats and other regulotory requriements. Somehow I doubt Josh and Andrew are on their lists.. To me pre-paid is the would be safest way to go if you do not worry about someone finding what the purchase id for . i.e. counterfiet goods.. even in pre-paid, i do not think you can be anonymous. for now i am leaning toward wire which is very secure. 100% agree. the issue with credit card theft almost NEVER has to do with transmitting the data.... it is very easy to get access to public/private key encryption transmission services.. it is what happens when the data arrives.. how securely is it stored, etc.. This happened to someone who is very close to me about 10 years ago.. i.e. idenity theft... and to this day, she STILL has people periodically trying to open fraudulent credit cards with her indentity. Trust me, is a nightmare.
  16. it is not josh and andrew's integrity i worry about.. i know they are honest... and i am assuming thet will use secured services to tramsmit the info... still i share your concern.
  17. me too. honestly i was overwhelmed by his genorosity.
  18. goodness, i have not looked at a demand curve since i was in collage. lord, my stomach is churning...
  19. dude, if you feel that much shock at contact, u ain't hittin the ball right.. or so i am told.. not that i am ther resident expert givin that i too frequently feel the shock
  20. the problem is you shoot to high lol... go with a 330 CI fewer electronic gadgets and runs like a beast. great peformance car. hmmm. that is interesting... where i come from a 3 series absolulutely is a BMW.... in fact i kind of think that is what most people think of around here when they here 'beemer'. Perhaps it is different in europe, never heard that one either...
  21. yup. i believe 6MM vs the more common 7MM
  22. i have no idea what you just said, but sh!t am i impressed!!!
  23. even if you are a VIP member, if you visit the site often, please consider making an additional donation. Really, considering all we get from the moderators and the admin, it is only fair.
  24. I am sure that thought has already crossed a lot of people's minds, I know it has mine. I would hate to think it was done that surreptiously.. i mean pug's post about targeting RWG rather than specific dealers makes sense.. you have to think that in the long term people know bringing that kind attention to this site cannot be good. Still it makes you wonder...
  25. i was not necessarily refering to exclusively to dealers in this case, although in general having fewer dealers in the equation is a concern...
