[KM] 50th Anniversary Speedmaster Moon Watch Review
kenmasters replied to kenmasters's topic in The Omega Area
I would like to know, for those who have the reduced rep, what does it measure from 9-3 'oclock ? excluding crown, measuring from the front including the front crystal, dial and tach ? I measure 39mm. Is this smaller than the pro ? because it feels larger than the reduced i tried out. According to omega website, the 50th anniv with the seahorse logo has a 'domed' crystal. Is this false ? -
I finally got myself an omega moon watch. I tried looking for the normal full-size moon watch, but I couldn't get one that wasn't in the 'reduced' form. So I went ahead and tried out the replica of the 50th anniversary moon watch (manual, lemania) which is suppose to be full size. Indeed, it measured 39mm (excluding the crown). There's been lots of great reviews from By-Tor, PugWash, Baltic, etc. on these replica moon watches. The 50th watch is no different than other reviews - same sub-dial spacing issue, flat cystral, 3-6-9 o'clock markers shorter, sapphire back case, bracelet does not say 'professional' on it, movement does not read Omega anymore, etc. But is this a good replica of the 50th anniversary version ? Lets see. MARKETING PHOTOS of the GEN. PHOTOs of the REP from Trustytime. (excellent delivery time btw) Note: Unlike By-Tor and Pugwash, I'm not very good at setting up photos, i'll take better ones later 50th Version Accuracy I don't have a genuine 50th in front of me to compare, but I've seen many photos online - I've attached the best ones I've seen here. There are different versions of the 50th, and this is the one that probably stands out the most. The nice gold seahorse logo is bright and looks nice. Originally I did not want this model because of this logo. I wanted to get the true moon watch experience, however, this logo has grown on me. It actually makes the watch feel more expensive. Maybe its just me, but the gold logo brings a 'rolex' feel to it. The logo itself is not bad. It doesn't have the detail as the marketing photo of the gen above. But you can only see this close up. The fonts look good - correct proportions. The Red Omega logo beneath the seahorse is actually quite good. Some people may have thought that it was too 'dark' in colour. Compared to the nice photo above, it does look that way, but its not that bad. It appears more dark in photos due to black background of the dial. Does it look too crowded ? In my opinion, its nice regardless. You won't be able to read the logos unless you're the one wearing the watch. One thing stood out other than the gold seahorse logo, the three subdials appear to have a different finish to them. Instead of flat black, the dials are composed of circular patterns. Is this common with reps? because you can't see them in the photos. I also noticed that the luminscence paint was off centered a bit on the lower right markers. Not noticable in the pictures. The backcase is the same as previous reps. It doe not read, "50th anniversary" anywhere on the back where the gen would have. The bracelet is very nice, and but does not say 'professional' on it. The case is shiny and no where on the case and bracelet reads serial numbers or model numbers (except for the clasp). I've seen photos of the back of some reps, and they have numbers written all over it. The gen would have the same, but for some reason, this rep is 'clean'. Conclusions The photos speak for itself, but in my opinion, this is a really nice watch. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice replica, but hates the 'reduced' version. Being my first replica, I am actually quite shocked at the quality. Its very shiny and bright - unlike the photos on Trustytime. Dial is dark and the fonts are good. Overall, this is a very nice watch even if it is a replica. I don't think the average joe would know this is a rep. There is the accent of the 'e' of tachymetre and the bracelet doesn't have that 'curve' in it. After seeing a gen, I do miss the dome crystal. The 50th gen does have a 'domed' crystal contrary to some reports. That's one thing I may want to change on this watch. The luminescence on this watch is quite bad. It does glow only in pitch black and its not very bright. Common with all reps? I don't know. Thanks! KM

Whoa.. $586 for a back case.. Anyone selling replica back cases and dome sapphires ? I went back to ofrei and there are many crystals and back cases with different prices... some are reasonable.. crystals from $30 to $160. And back cases from $98. http://www.ofrei.com/page_168.html http://www.ofrei.com/page670.html Anyone had any luck with these parts ? know which part to order ?!

Nice. All you need now is a band on that thing ! Are there other sources other than ebay for used/new omega parts ?

I hear everyone likes the POs.. maybe one day i'll get one.. for now, I'm sticking with the reliable moon. Funny thing is that I saw some other speedys, day-date, and others, and they're all in the "reduced" form factor. Only the professional is full size.

I'm in Toronto ! Maple Leafs.. Raptors.. CN tower.. not much else...

So I ordered a 50th anniversary watch... waiting for it in mail now. [Review Pending on Andrew's delivery] I did drop by a Birks (in Canada) to compare the the regular pro moon watch vs the reduced. Guys, the reduced looks and feels much smaller than the full size. Its okay, but the reduce, in my opinion, feels like a ladies watch. If I didn't have the full size one there for comparison, I may not have noticed. I have small wrists, so I thought the reduced may actually be better.. but my male ego wants the big one.. The refinement details such as the back casing and the front sapphire is very nice. Domed. The back casing was different on the reduced - doesn't say 'first watch on the moon..." And to those who noticed there's no accent on the e in tachymeter, guess what ? the reduced doesn't have the accent on it...even on the genuine. Not only is the reduced smaller in diameter, it is thinner, and also the bracelet is smaller in width. So, everything is "reduced" in the reduced version. So my money for a nice replica is not going towards a 'reduced' version of the watch. I opted for the 50th anniversary watch which is suppose to be full size. Prices for genuine omegas in Canada are ridiculous. For the pro $3700CDN, for the reduced $3200CDN. Ebay less than half that price. Why would anyone buy new ?

Nice.. i would would wear that when the moon blows up... lol Yes, Trustytime say they only have the reduced version. But they do have the 50th anniversary model.. No reviews on this watch yet, but I hear its full size and of the same quality as the current stock. Would like more insight, or maybe i'll be the first to order one and review it...

pugwash your such a smartass... j/k i msg one of the 'fake' ebayers, and they just told me to not bid.. if they knew it was genuine, then they would have defended themselves.. obvious rip off..

For some reason, i don't like any of the modern designs from Omega, Tag, etc. Looks too bling bling with huge fonts screaming look at me ! I like the tradition of sophistication and refinement. The moon watch is one of those watches. Everyone tries to mimic this watch.

Difficult to do when nobody seems to reply to their emails... i sent almost every recommended dealer on this site an email. I'll just wait and see what happens. I would think that the dealers would want our business..

After a day of research, this is what I've discovered. You won't find a super-rep for this model. The closest ones are the ones from trustytime or others, which lack the oval sapphire front and the correct back case. Other than the sub spacing issue and perhaps some marker ticks and font issues, its the best thing available today. I'm okay with these flaws. The biggest flaw to me would be back casing. I wish there was rep out there that had the right back casing.. its dumb that other reps/models of omega has the correct back casing, but the most popular model doesn't ! I'm having trouble locating a dealer that will respond to my questions. I've decided to order (try out my luck) with either trustytime or Pam111. Trustytime seems to have the "best" rep available, but Pam111 has different rep.. The two look very similiar, however, I noticed two differences. Trustytime has the common flaw for the 15min markers are shorter. Pam has a model that doesn't have this flaw. However, Pam's model doesn't have the accent on the tachymetre. Pam's model also has the numbers above each time interval. The genuine doesn't have this. Does anyone else have more insight on this ? I am thinking of ordering Pam's.. its cheaper in price... but if there's a reason to order the other version (Pam has a version that looks exactly like Trusty's.. w-816 and w-817) let me know.

What bugs me is that they claim to be genuine, and people fall for it ! Look at the number of sales the guy above had... shouldn't somebody put a stop to this ?
-
I'm looking at some of the ebay listings for Omega Speedmasters.. Perhaps I'm not aware of the differences in years/models for some of the genuine stuff, but some of these images on ebay look fake to me.. for example.. item # 220145009936 does not look the same as item 220142746810 even though its the same seller ! both claiming authenticity. Are all the 5min interval lines on the dial suppose to be of the same length ? I notice subtle differences, but at least the casing is real !? How hard would it be for someone just to put on a new casing, back cover, etc, to make it look authentic and pass it off as real ?

Thanks I've been searching and reading all day long.. main issue is this sub-spacing issue because of the different movement. I don't really care for that as long as it holds time, and looks decent. But the original professional is no longer in production ??? I like the one pugwash reviewed.. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=8035 Would like to know what would be the best substitute if i were to order something today ? Thanks!

Hi folks, I'm looking for a new watch and I'm new with replicas, so I don't know what I'm getting. If I am spending $250 or so for a watch, it better be good ! That's still expensive for something that's not even real. I like the original Omega Speedmaster Pro, but I prefer the day-date ones, or maybe even the 50th anniversary one, but I don't like the weird logo omega uses for that one.. I looked at trustytime's website.. they look ok, but I don't know what the differences are between the rep and the original. Anyone have pics for comparison? - How is the look ? does it look genuine ? Shiny or cheap looking ? Feel and weigh the same as the original ? - What is the quality ? How is the movement, durability, accuracy, lifespan for these watches ? Thanks for your help. I know asking for dealers is a no no, and there is plenty of reviews already. I just want someone who can answer my questions in a reasonable amount of time, and I haven't found that dealer yet. If you got a used pro in black/chrome, msg me Thanks, K
