haha, I still make the commute religiously weekly as well, just on Sunday to visit my mum who still lives there. There will be hell to pay if I don't. I'll drop you a msg soon to get the details and will try to make it on the next one.

You've been on a bit of a watch spree Just heard of your bi-weekly GTG. I'll try to make it one of these days. Pity is that I've moved away from that area

Finally, got me a 47mm PAM sub... 305 love!
unregistered replied to burnz's topic in The Panerai Area
I saw that 305 there about 2/3 weeks back, plus the 127 as well, not sure if they are still there now. Not really into PAMs these days besides my vintage puppies. I've got a 6152/1 project going on now (log on wc) and have been bitten by the Anonimo bug as of late. Gone through 2, and nearly picked up a 3rd over the weekend. You know my thoughts on the 312, looks great in pics, sits weird on my wrist -

Very nice mate, seen a couple of them in the pre-loved shops of late in town, is that where you picked it up? 243 and 305 are two topmost subs in my book, so lovely pickup. -

[Review] Panerai PAM 002A (Gen vs DSN)
unregistered replied to unregistered's topic in The Panerai Area
Hi babola, exactly my thoughts but as this wasn't my build, I couldn't comment as to the source of all parts. It very well could be a Getat/JacksonTse case as the crown is a little high over the CG as compared to my LH case and Ti DSN case and the lugs arent the standard stubby ones DSN cases have. swdvidad: On his 002 dial as mentioned the grooves arnt as bad. Here is his 082 dial and you can see its very pronounced, almost an outline. So personally, I would say the 002 is fine and acceptable. -
I was a little bored today since I've been sick all weekend, so I thought I'd throw together a quick 002 review since I got this lil guy back. Disclaimer: This review is only on the DSN dial, case and caseback. Crown and crownguard are from a 3rd party and don't ask me who, cause I don't know. Dial has also been relumed by Goin and the movement serviced. Dial 1. Size of "LUMINOR" is incorrect, too tall by half an mm. Furthermore, printing is done in a lighter white or only one coat thus not making it stand out as much as it should 2. Same thing as "1" for "PANERAI" 3. Shape of R is incorrect 4. Shape of 6 tail is incorrect, a little thick (though this could be due to the relume) 5. DSNs lume application on this stock is not that great, a little glossy and too white for a T dial plus it doesn't really glow much 1.Also, DSN's dial has a small groove around the numbers, not that obvious as his 082/195 dials, but still there if seen very up close. The gen has raised numbers like DSN's but no groove (Depending!) Caseback Missed it in my first look. Gen has 30ATM, DSN has 300m Case Standard DSN case which in this case isn't too bad. Crown & crownguard I'm taking the above pic from my previous 040B review just to illustrate how crap DSN's stock stainless steel crowns are. Way too much bevel on them. DSN's crownguards for the A-F series arn't too bad, a little thin, but overall ok, but nothing like a JFu and gen. They differ from the preggie CGs of Pre-Vs and G-series onwards. All up, to get this close to gen, a swap of the crown, crownguard and relume are required. The font is something you can't change and just hope that a new version comes out in future, other than that, its a stunner. More Pics

Totally know that feeling That 002A you did for me is the same

Its been proven the $1.5k one is not made of gen parts and is also a rep. -
Second what stormtrooper said above about the sticker, I think its a transfer so the top "clear" rectangular bit should come off. That pin on the CG needs to be pushed in a little more. DSN 112 dial? Overall lovely I really want a destro base now
-
hmm...arguments can be made there cause the essence of a PAM is the lume, crown and CG, the three main "tells" people check out on, and on all three, none of them are DSN based its a pseudo-DSN then
-
Actually yup, forgot about that. The CB will be swapped out soon with a custom Jakob one once it's done.
-
I'll try and take somemore pics of this, but outdoors, I find it near colorless to a slight tint of purple. haha, yeah, tx picked up on that on wrist check
-
hahaha, yup, its my old LH that went off to taka for double AR coating on the crystal (I actually just got him to swap in one of his already ARed crystals). This piece has also gone on to Goin for a movement service so it is butter smooth, and I mean literally, no ticking sound, no kick back on the crown, just amazing. Outdoors, the AR is near colorless, so whoever is looking for good AR at a decent price without a long wait, just hit up Taka. Yup, the main tells are on the movement under the swanneck regulator its coarser the engraving, well all over too, but at least in the pic. Plus the cogs. Dial side, yup the pin needs to be pushed in a bit more (any suggestions? I've tried a couple of times and I don't want to mar the mirror finish) and obviously the dial's "O" and "P/A" are the main tells. Other than that, bit tough to spot now that the biggest issue, the AR has been resolved. I also got in yesterday the rep box, pretty damn good quality as compared to gen, along with a nice DSN black calf MX strap, so I thought I'd have some fun with my brothers here and see who were the more eagle eyed ones I've seen/handled a number of rep boxes and this is by far the best one I've dealt with. Before anyone asks, I got it off Panaraman so I don't know the source. Main flaws to me is not so much the box, but the internal foam lining. Time to re-read my LH vs Gen review then

Only thing DSN on this is the base dial and hands. Think the case as well but thats it. Lovely lovely piece, can't stop looking at it all day.
-
Thanks guys, its a lovely piece. Just curious what to you makes you think the dial isn't gen

My 002A is back from a relume and service with Goin.

Let's start with a few teaser shots Guessed yet? How about a little zoomed out? You should have guessed by now. Anonimo Professionale RM Mod.6003 Limited Edition for 10th Anniversary of Anonimo. 1 of 199 pieces First Anonimo that I've seen with a deployant Next to my Anonimo Hi-Dive Hybrid OxPro I'll get some shots in better lighting tomorrow. It wears amazingly well on the wrist, to me, even better than PAMs More info Movement is a lovely Soprod SO 9040 PR module on a base ETA 2892. *Update* New morning pics Next to its Hi-Dive Cousin Next to its very distant cousin And how could I ever forget about lume 1sec exposure, 2mins lapse

R2: I think he means that the crown guards, at least the lower one is not machined very well and doesn't have a straight edge, kinda goes wobbly at the end. -

R2, just gotta agree to disagree. You are getting quite defensive in trying to bring this piece down and about the dial color, which is your opinion and your right, you and I both know how opinionated we can get (still reckon the MM20 is a closer homage to the 6152 ) Putting things in perspective, this Santos100XL is the best replica out there right now for this particular model. Compared to the previous replicas of this model, it is light years ahead in terms of accuracy, corrected flaws, general overall feel and the one thing you can't generally quantify, is the feeling of quality. That even you have to admit, or if not, at least acknowledge that the previous versions suffered from significantly more obvious flaws like completely wrong dials, incorrectly sized hands, incorrectly colored cabochons, wrongly sized cabochons, wrongly sized crowns, wrongly sized crown guards, wrong model casebacks, bubbled bezel screws and the whole slew of things. Further to that, stepping further out and just comparing this to say the beloved PAM111H that majority of people still buy, this model can in comparison be said to be a gen when comparing flaws. Are there flaws? Yes I will agree. Is the dial off, very slightly so. Is it a huge flaw, IMHO, no. To some it may be, obviously to you it is. To get so worked up and attempt to put down the watch in such a manner considering what we have available now, well, you have every right, I don't have stock in any rep manufacturers (well maybe I do indirectly via my portfolio but still), I just think its getting a little much, you've got at least 5 posts now defending your position very passionately. Basically mate, relax. There are many other watches for you to move on to. Get a cigar, down some whiskey, and start searching for the next one. Everyone else, if you've been wanting a good Santos100XL rep, this is it, at least all you can get, along with the DLC/Ti version that just came out. The only way to improve it, would be to get a gen dial or Rocket dial and transplant it in if you feel the dial color is too much of an issue for you. -

As you said, to each his own. As my own pictures show, the dial changes shade quite differently, very much like the gen dial. I do feel you are blowing it up a little about the dial color, but thats cause I actually have the rep watch in hand. -

hmmm...I am kinda of two minds about this. On one hand we've got one of the best damn OTB reps available, especially comparing what was available in the past, and yet so many people are niggling about things that just cannot be picked up unless you are pouring over the watch pretty up close, i.e. 2ft away sorta close. Yet I do understand why we also want things to be near accurate. Just get the general feel from many on this thread would really be better off playing with gens, which most of you already do. I personally think for $300+, this piece is ridiculously close and cheap to a gen which is overpriced, in my book it is 95% close, much better than the majority of the reps out there, light years ahead of Panerai reps etc. -

agree that under AD lighting, the dial looks off. Go to a 2nd hand shop and see if you can find one, the color is significantly closer, or bring the watch to somewhere a little darker with normal lighting in the AD. I found that the gen dial is far from bright silver. To me though, the bigger tell is the beveled sapphire -

I checked and the gen has glossy numbers and mildly raised similar to the rep. That said it was on a TT Santos100XL so there MAY be differences Just a disclosure.
