  1. I'm not quite sure how to get the back crystal off. Repaustria said he used a vacuum crystal extractor which I don't have...so I'm still figuring this one out. $418 is a bit much...must have been the cost of getting the inner bezel aligned properly. Yeah...after a relume it will look great I'm sure. I thought the colours looked reasonably close given "internet picture variances". As to the 1-dimensional look...I thought the same thing about the initial Skyland pictures and the half subdial striping: I couldn't see it in a lot of the pictures...but it showed up great on macro. I'm assuming they will get the subdial recessing done properly as the factories usually haven't overlooked anything THAT obvious...unless it's a spelling error. It may not be as deep, and the curve angle will likely be different, but it should still be curved and recessed. The movement was never an issue on this one. The issue with the CDs was that they had used stickers to put the "International Watch Company" lettering on the rotor, and the stickers were either crooked or threatened to come off. I don't know of anybody who actually had a buggered movement BECAUSE the letters fell off...it just looked like it would happen any minute. My CD came without lettering...which was fine because of the closed caseback. The other issue with the CDs was the misaligned ratcheting of the inner rotating bezel...and according to the pic above, it looks like that has been corrected. For a price 30% higher than I paid for my CD...I certainly hope it's fixed!!
  2. I agree. I would rather have Charlotte Ross show her buns rather than wear fur. I think I'll probably go simple and wear a gen DJ.
  3. I like the blue one. I'm not a big fan of the red on the bezel with the black dial. It's funny how you described in your earlier post as it being cartoonish as that's EXACTLY what I was thinking. It looks like somebody was trying to copy an Alain Silberstein watch in the same fashion Concord copied from Hublot. With the simpler colour scheme (either black bezel and dial, or blue bezel and dial) it captures elegance a lot more. I like the bracelet.
  4. Heh heh...I actually don't mind the wood sticker. I've got some side-grained teak coming to me...so I'm hoping to do the gen wood inlay mod on it.
  5. Indeed...that's a great TZ reference for the LV. I just ordered an insert for a 16600 from watchbandman50 on the Bay. He doesn't have the item listed on Bay, but has it if you email him. This seems to be one of the better inserts around. I have seen many SD gen pics with the flat 4, and some with the pointy 4...and from what I can tell, the Z series SD 16600 has the pointy 4...so that should be what's coming. I also ordered replacement pearls from watchmaterial. I'm still a little confused as they say on the site that the 16800 and 16600 inserts are interchangeable, but my SSD v2 doesn't take the 16800 insert that I have. The inner hole diameters seems larger by about 0.75 - 1.0mm...and Rolex definitely has different parts for the bezels. According to watchbandman50 in an email however, they have different parts for the 16800 and 16600 that are different sizes...so I should be getting the right noe.
  6. Check Here Pugwash's Excellent Guide Another Pugwash guide using plastic bags
  7. I'm constantly amazed that the simplest things are messed up on by rep factories...but more complex things get executed. The PAM dials in general are sooooo simple...yet, they screw up the "A" with the low and high versions...crappy pearls on Rollies...yet they can do a complex lume job with new fittings for an internally rotating bezel...or the multi-layer dials of things like the Concord C-1...it's baffling.
  8. I like it. The rotating seconds disc is a design feature I've always liked in the C1 or the Grand Carrera...but couldn't never get into with the all the chunkiness of the C1...or the overall design of the Carrera. But here...given the aviation history of IWC...I think it's quite apt. I suspect from looking at the back that the turbine on the back is not over a tourby...but likely rotates in tandem with the second disc on the dial.
  9. I actually like the colours more than the 2007...but I'm not a big fan of the caseback...
  10. Very nice. You're going to need the all black Nasa strap next.
  11. You could put a WTB post asking if someone has a donor 7750 slow beat to buy. Is this with the date @ 6 or a standard 7750? If it's a standard 7750, you could also upgrade to a Swiss 7750...the hands should fit and it should be a relatively painless swap...or hang onto it until you find a watch you want to upgrade to Swiss, and swap out the old movement. OR...you could get a regular A7750 and new hands...
  12. I forgot...I think PAM111 ships from the US too. I've never used them...and I don't live in the US...but if memory serves me right: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showforum=89 ...you can send a PM or email or whatever and find out what he can do.
  13. The rwg watch sales section might be your best bet...
  14. I am too. I saw the gen in the wild...and I have to say, it has a really nice "presence" to it. It is really an interesting and welcome addition to the Rolex line.
  15. How about the new Datora if you're staying in the Breitling line. Sunken datewheel and likely the crystal rotates on the slide rule ring...that's about it for a great looking rep!! Congrats on your new arrivals...post pics...especially of the ladies Breitling. I'm assuming by one for your wife, you mean one you can wear as well.
  16. Eurotimez can get the strap for you with deployment I'm sure. Get it with your order...that way you save an additional relatively high shipping charge JUST for the strap if you order it later.
  17. AWESOME. I would love to do a project like this...amazing. Good hunting!!
  18. Yup...my 3 year old has a manual wind plastic "promo" Levi's (as in the jeans) watch that is great. He loves to listen to the tick...saying the digital watches are broken. >sniff< It brings a tear to my eyes! My 1 year old loves deployment clasps...start 'em young!
  19. I know some of the vintage experts (Freddy if I remember right) had problems with thread pitch changing...on GEN PARTS no less!! He had to get different gen Rolex taps for some obscure mid-production spec change...crazy. I know the issues with the ETA vs. Rollie movement rotation date order swap and some of the projects to print overlays...but haven't seen any successful updates in recent history. I'm going to have to contact some of the collectors to see if they can get Asian overlays for the Rollies. Thanks for the info!!
  20. The IWC ATs are worth getting JUST for the The Zigmeister lume...kind of like certain sausage dial PAMs are worth getting for a The Zigmeister spa treatment. I saw his work on the Graham...SICK!!
