If you look at the "How to Modify Your Sub/SD" post pinned in the Rolex section, that should help. Most of the aftermarket inserts appear to not fit the Noobs exactly right and need a bit of work. Make sure to read the last page of posts as it clarifies where to source the inserts. I ordered mine from Jewellery Outlet, and got a pearl from Watchmaterial. The pearl on the Jewellery Outlet insert was miles better than what came with the rep, and the Watchmaterial is nice as well and has the glass over the lume like the gen so looks very different than the rep pearl. Installation usually involves sanding down the insert so it sits lower in the bezel...and then shaving down the diameter a bit so it "snaps" in. They usually don't "snap in" out of the box.

Lots of CDNs here...myself included. I was on RG as well for awhile...just never posted there and had a different userid. Welcome aboard.

I responded in the Shoutbox as well...but I'll go again here. If you have something specific in mind for Patek or VC...you may be out of luck. There aren't too many high accuracy reps of either...but a few. The issue is, many are dependent on proprietary movements with tricky complications that can't be readily ported over to the rep world while maintaining proper function. With the complications like moon phases and perpetual calendars you'll end up spinning dials but things that don't necessarily work properly. Of the good Pateks, you're probably limited to the Nautilus, Aquanaut and possibly a Calatrava. Of the VCs...the Oversears is probably the best. There's a Patek guide HERE...but I don't know of one for VCs. In general, read the Noob Guide linked in my signature to introduce you to the forum and the rep world and to guide you through the buying experience. Use the search tool as there are a few posts on each...just not a lot. Good luck!

I do think this is an under represented watch. I like it. Very nice piece. I saw Angus has one in his "New' listings section with no price. I wonder what the differences are with the one you have: How do you like your Asian Deepsea? I think this is one of the better values out there. For $128...you get the blue lume, big case...and a disposable movement that is easy to replace and readily available anywhere!! It would take a lot of movement replacements to add up the extra $200+ that the Swiss ETA costs...and even more when you consider the maintenance costs of servicing the ETA vs. just doing a movement swap on the Asian! Which version is this one? I'm no Daytona expert...is it the manual wind or fixed 7750??

Read the Skyland review linked in my signature for information...a few other collectors carry the same watch. It will help clarify things for you. -

Somebody's got a big printer!!

Yes it is a common problem. It has something to do with the thread pitch and depth. The fix uses a gen tube and crown but the gen tube fits a bit loose in the case which means you can either glue it in (what The Zigmeister did for me) or drill THROUGH the original tube to turn it into a sort of "shim" and fix the new tube INTO the old tube. You can get links to this problem in my SMP review linked in my signature.

Toadtorrent replied to jhalsey205's topic in The Omega Area
Knowing The Zigmeister, I definitely don't think he meant anything sly, but more along the lines that in his case, because he is a one man shop he is still able to do quality work even though he does not have a lot of work space...but is limited in scope to what he can offer services for, but recognizes that you have much more resources available in terms of not only space and equipment but qualified employees as well, so are able to do quality work as well but with a much larger portfolio of services. I would hate to put words in people's mouths, but if there's one person who doesn't play around with doublespeak...that would be Zig. -
Very nice shots!!

'Official Hello'..................
Toadtorrent replied to Demsey's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Welcome aboard. I remember reading much of your stuff on the other sites over the while. I was logged on purely as a lurker under another username for awhile. I didn't think I had anything to contribute until I came here. RWG 2 is really a work of art in terms of community and knowledge...I'm sure you'll enjoy it. -
If you ask any of the collectors...none will say they drop ship. They all say each piece is carefully looked over by somebody on their team (either themselves or a family member). Take that for what you will.

Got my new GMTII Ceramic and you'll never believe it...
Toadtorrent replied to seadweller3's topic in The Rolex Area
Yes...the bigger dial markers and hands are the Maxi dial and hands. Congrats...it's a great looking watch. -
Welcome aboard. You will soon realize how far reps have come in quality over the last 5 years...and also how much more they cost for the good ones. Read, search, learn and share. Start off reading the Noob Guide linked in my signature, and you'll hit the ground running. As to vintage Rollies...there are few good options "out of the box". All of them need work in order to get a reasonably "passable" one...especially in terms of aging.

Air controllers geared for the big fly in!
Toadtorrent replied to offshore's topic in General Discussion
The local news station here is tracking his flight and the weather of the countries he's passing over. Merry Christmas to all!! -
That's an amazing combo. Not a general use everyday combo...but when you're going for that heavy leg day don't mess with me mode...bring it on!!
-
Welcome aboard...and remember...no rep, unless heavily modified with many, expensive genuine parts will ever be just like the gen. This doesn't mean that they won't feel and look great...but if you bump into another watch enthusiast, they may be able to call you out on it...so be careful about "playing" a role. There is a wealth of fantastic info here written by some amazing folks. Read...search...learn and have fun.

Very exciting...and it looks great! Congrats...it's very exciting.

I did one...linked in my signature...and I have links to the others in my review.

The PO is 45.5mm x 13mm and the Carrera is something like 41mm x 16mm. I've tried both gens on, have 6.5" wrists and find the PO feels larger even though the Carrera is thicker. I like both watches but am drawn to the Carrera more than the PO. Everything is true for what you have said...that the PO in Swiss will probably be easier to maintain than an A7750 unless you have a watchsmith that you know that can work on an Asian chrono movement...the trick though is ensuring you get a Swiss ETA instead of an Asian copy of the ETA movement.
