If you contact any of the dealers recommended here...odds are good they can take arrangement for payment in other means than PP. Either way...your money...do what you want.

Quartz are far cheaper and easier to maintain. Autos are finicky and can be costly to maintain. However...the best reps are of auto based gens and that's what most people buy here. Personally, I'm fascinated by a mechanical marvel going tick-toc on my wrist and see no reason to go to quartz...except to have a watch to set the time to when the power reserve on my manual runs dry. Read my Noob Guide linked in my signature and look up a post on movements by The Zigmeisterzumba...or find a post of his and find the link in his signature. Many people have descent success with the Asian 21j vs. ETA based...but ETA based watches at much higher expense theoretically can be maintained by most watchmakers with parts being readily available. Chronos based on the A7750 movement are the highest cost of them all...but all the super reps out there are based on them. Properly maintained, an A7750 movement can last as long as its gen counterpart. The issue is finding somebody qualified to service it properly and the cost of doing so (being close to the cost of the rep). Welcome aboard and good luck.

Young kids don't know how easy they have it. Back in my day, we had to clear off 4' of snow with our toothbrushes and barefoot, 10 minutes before we woke up.

Where to find breitling caseback and strap
Toadtorrent replied to jetblk328i's topic in The Breitling Area
Jay (Silix) and Peter (Watchstation) and Angus (Puretime) will likely be able to get them as well. -
What a great first post. Welcome to the club. You'll have to PM me more info on those repped prescription glasses. I'm running about 12 pair myself...unfortunately...all gen.

Watches with Royal blue dial similar to rollie sub
Toadtorrent replied to blue_sphere's topic in General Discussion
You could try the IWC Portuguese Laureus and the Spitfire Laureus. I couldn't find any decent pics that show the blue...but they're both quite nice. I don't know if the Porto is available in blue with the improved movement...or if the 29j movement is worth getting...the verdict is still out on that one. The SMP Chrono has a nice blue dial as well...and I believe there are some Breitling Navitimers with blue dials as well. As far as the irridescent blue like a blue Rollie serti dial...I'm not so sure. The wave effect on the SMP Chrono is nice...and with inaccurate Chief AR (gen of this particular model has no AR) it really pops out!! The Breitlings in blue probably have the closest look of the rolli. I would take a look at the SOH and SOH Chrono in blue dial by Breitling. -
A little help needed with my new Link Chronograph Please
Toadtorrent replied to RyanJ's topic in The Tag Heuer Area
Yup...you definitely diagnosed the problem. A local competent watchmaker should be able to fix that problem very quickly at little expense. It will be better than shipping it back to China and being out of a watch for 2 months. The shipping cost/repair costs should almost be on par (repair being a little more). -
He means the popularity of the GMT IIc is high now, but does not think it will last as long as the Milgauss...leading you to not wear the GMT IIc after a short time, and having it sit in your drawer doing nothing...or "turned into a doorstop" to give it something to do. Another expression might be a "paper weight"...serving no purpose than sitting on your desk.

Is this an issue because of the many variances of A7750s you have come across, manufacturing QC variances affecting fit, or micro-variances on the ETA parts themselves?? I guess the real question is, is this something you have to sort through a batch of gen ETA cannon pins and hope you find one that fits (making the cost of the pins high because of the failure of fit)... ...or is this a scenario where if you get a movement where one doesn't fit you have to do something to the movement itself?

That strap looks great! Congrats!!

Ah yes...didn't know what you were talking about until you posted the pic. The splotchy stains do look messy.

Hamilton Vintage Movement Cufflinks + RWG ring take 2
Toadtorrent replied to fotoman's topic in My Collection
Awesome photo. If you want to try an experiment...add some more directive light (maybe using some tinfoil or something) on that great ring, stop down the aperature if you can or move the cufflinks into the same focal distance plane so the RWG logo is as sharp in focus as the cufflinks, and you'll have a shot indistinguishable from the best!! -
Welcome aboard. There are a few other watch forums around, but you just lucked into the most knowledgeable, and coolest one around, with some of the best articles/posts you can get. Members here are some of the most knowledgeable watchmakers, modders, and brand experts anywhere. Read my Noob Guide linked in my signature, and you'll hit the ground running.

...or upgrade to the Montbrillant Legende as I believe the markers on that new rep are aligned more accurately than the Bentley! Thanks all for the comments. Let me know if anybody discovers things that need changing or errors...there were lots of numbers and stuff to play around with, so it was quite difficult to edit this one with the photos looking pretty similar.

...I'm not very observant...

Crap...just read your link on Posting 101 in your sig...that is HILARIOUS and informative too.

Picked up for delivery generally means it was loaded in the truck and was heading out. If it was supposed to be signed for or if duties/fees need to be collected they will attempt delivery...and if a living body doesn't answer the door with their "light tap"...it will go either to their local postal pickup spot and they will SNAIL MAIL out a delivery notice that a package has arrived and a failed delivery attempt had occurred...OR, they will leave a post-it pickup notice...which cannot be used without appropriate government photo ID with the delivery address on it. Usually registered airmail or the flat rate envelopes just get left at my door...but occasionally it takes a few extra days once an attempted delivery has occurred. I've never had a problem yet...just received one from California with the backlog from Christmas, it took quite awhile to get here...like 2 weeks or so...as opposed to the usual 3 days...so this is on the upper ends of the time...that's from California to Ontario...NB is a little ways West so usually takes 2 days by express type mail to The Zigmeister...so add that to the total for about 2-3 weeks. Did anything show on the tracking that it had cleared customs or was the pickup for delivery on the USPS site? It's possible that you can use the USPS tracking number on the Canada Post site once in the country. It works with EMS from China...not sure about USPS Express. -
If your rep passes pressure tests it might be ok. I know The Zigmeister and the other watchmakers use them for cleaning the movement parts when they do servicing...but I would never immerse a rep in one to clean it. I understand that certain movement parts are not supposed to be cleaned this way...so it appears there is the potential for damage on some stuff. I'm not sure how the cleaning fluid and cleaning action may screw up AR if at all...

Ulysse Nardin Marine Chrono
Toadtorrent replied to lanikai's topic in The Two R's Watch Reviews - Lani & Ubi
It looks great Lani. I didn't read the details on this watch before and had no idea it was so thick. The macro shots really show the level of attention to detail the factories did on this one. This rep kind of falls into one of my categories of watches that I think would be interesting to get not because I like the design, but as an example of the level of attention the factories have gone to make the rep. There are so many components that need to be assembled on this one, and as such so many potential points of failure, and they have all come together nicely. You continue to raise the bar on the photo reviews! -
How do you guys resist purchasing watches?
Toadtorrent replied to DemonSlayer's topic in General Discussion
Stopping the purchasing is easier than stopping the forum reading. The posts here are too entertaining and enlightening...and the photography is great!! -
Hi from a long time reader, first time posting
Toadtorrent replied to m3lieb's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
You have a great collection...and the pics are nice as well. Do you find one is heavily favoured in the rotation? -
Read a few posts...and this idea has been floated around. The issue is that companies like Rolex or other gen companies start leaning the lawyers sometimes on watchmakers who are known to work on counterfeit items. This might mean restricting part or tool supply, or threatening legal action. Some on this board in the UK stuck the threats back to the Rolex lawyers and haven't been bothered since...others are not willing to risk the potential loss in livelihood so keep things under the radar. So...a list like this is not generally supported, as it could get the rep friendly folks in trouble. Search the posts for people who say they have somebody in a particular state, and then send a PM or email if you can to get the info personally. I know there have been a few discovered in NY...in Canada we some of the best. In the UK there's a qualified guy as well. You can discover some of these in the Noob Guide linked in my signature...otherwise...search the archives and good luck!

Toadtorrent replied to DemonSlayer's topic in General Discussion
Have children!! Childcare costs could buy me a handful of gen PAMs every year or maybe a gen 1655 AND a PAM...or maybe a VC Tourby every few years!!! Yowzaa!! I rationalize it that I can't buy another one until I can rationalize the utility in doing so...maybe that's writing a good post on the watch (in other words it has to have some significance either to me or the history or function of watches)...or if I have a good photo I want to do. It can't just be a nice looking piece I want in the stable...it has to be more than that!! -
Getting the Cousteau lume right...finally...
Toadtorrent replied to RWG Technical's topic in General Discussion
Thanks!! And thanks again to The Zigmeister. The gen actually glows green and the orange chrono hands don't glow at all. I figured I would go for the inaccurate but ultimately "cool blue" glow and I'm glad The Zigmeister did the glowing chrono hands!!
