My wife's Zodiac dive watch had an MSRP of about $800 USD, and I just replaced the movement on it with an ETA quartz for $28!!

Hey Cougaree...handwinding an A7750 is bad...not as big a deal on a gen 7750 as things are better lubricated and they metal is higher quality. I have a rep that has this...arrived like this...didn't worry about it too much as the power reserve was fine. I can't remember if an ETA reversing wheel is compatible...there was a post discussing ETA compatible parts with the a7750 between Francisco and Zig...and I can't find it. EDIT: WHOOPS...I just read what this post was about...it was early morning when I replied...didn't read things...my bad!! Sorry for the confusion...I knew you would know this answer...but I'll leave my reply here anyway in case it helps somebody.

And that is why many of us are into reps. We could buy a nice gen or three , but why not buy a nice rep or twenty? I like to look at the accuracy of things in detail, but I'm not bothered too much by most small inaccuracies...so don't feel a real need to spend thousands to get the ultimate franken-rep...but I'll admit, after spending time here on this forum, I'm heading in that direction.

It's usually best to bundle it with a watch. The standard shipping (non-EMS really only saves $10-15...to me it's not worth the savings unless you live in a country where EMS gets flagged).

I have no idea what that means or what kind of machine you are talking about, but it sounds good. I love the dials Freddy wants...but where do you source the right fonts??? That seems to be one of the biggest difficulties. AND, for what movements for the spacing?? Cool offer...love this forum and the talents on it!

You'd be surprised...a moderately thick strap is really nice with this one...gives it a bit more sporty "oomph" than a thin one. Great rep!! Big congrats, and keep us posted on it's arrival and your impression of it when it arrives. I wear it a lot with a DiModell strap that can get wet.

Hi and welcome to the forum. While the advice above is quite sound...it is the advice of some folks here who are passionate about watches. What you find that is acceptable for you, may be different than what's acceptable for some of the folks who have been around here for awhile. You can find cheaper PAMs that may be all you want for <$200...but, the more you hang around here, see the photos of some of the super high end modded uber-reps on this forum, I GUARANTEE you, your awareness, eye for detail, and passion will perfection will evolve. What you will find in the lower end PAMS (less than $200), is that: the lume will not be very good movement will be Asian vs. Swiss Movement may not have details like accurate bridge markings, shallow engraving, incorrect engraving, etc Likely not swan neck regulator Incorrect caseback for the series of watch it is Strap will likely suck on even the more expensive ones...budget for an upgraded strap Crownguard might be a bit floppy, or have subtle detailing that is incorrect Dial font may be slightly off (low vs. high "A", datewheel fonts, etc) Does this mean that the watch will not be able to be enjoyed? Definitely not...it all depends on what your tolerance level is for certain imperfections...and this tolerance may be over-ruled by price. This is the thing with reps...everybody's tolerance of the imperfections varies...and some are willing to spend THOUSANDS to pursue incremental improvement through the use of gen parts. Just something to think about...in that some budget reps may introduce you to the rep world in a positive and fun way that you might not be willing to do on more expensive models. That being said, if you can afford $400 with shipping, you can get the current generation of high end rep that looks fantastic!!!

Which one did you get? With servicing...it all depends. Wear it for awhile...6 months at least. If it grows on you, and seems something you will want to wear and wear again for years...consider servicing. Servicing may cost between $100 and $200 depending on where you are located in the world and the level of servicing you get. A replacement watch may cost used $100 - $300 depending on which watch. A replacement movement may cost $100 - $150 + the labour to swap the movement. So...you can take your chances and just wear it...some people have years of luck with this without service. If you are afraid you won't be able to replace it in a couple years if it dies because the factories no longer may make it...consider servicing because replacement isn't an option. Replacement movements can be cheaper than a servicing if you learn to do the labour yourself (fun if the watch has died and a good way to learn to work on things)...but expensive if you have to pay for labour...and more difficult if you have to worry about datewheels too. Some things to consider.

The sizes show the Porto chrono to be: 40mm x 12.5mm. The Speedy's are 42mm x 13.8mm so the Speedy should wear larger all around. I have a 6.5" wrist (don't have either of these) but as a personal preference, find 42mm fits perfectly fine and balanced. I have an Omega Seamaster at 40mm x 12mm and an IWC Spitfire at 42mm x 14.7mm and diameter wise, they feel pretty close, but the IWC is thicker, and feels a bit thicker on tight shirt cuffs.
