The one on the left has the wrong bezel and CG finish (should be brushed) but has better date font. It looks like both have wrong spelling on Tachymeter. THe odd thing is that gen 250 spells it "Tachymeter" and gen 251 spells it "Tachymetre".
I do prefer ETA's but it depends on the quality of the rep and how long you plan on keeping it. Also as previoulsy mentioned it depends on which Asian movement. There are some which keep great time but feel and sound like crap. So, which watch are you talking about?
Your watchsmith is a genius. He may know nothing about metalurgy but by calling out fake he is no longer responsible for busting your bracelet through his own incompetence.
Timely article in the NY Times Circuits section about LCD versus Plasma. Hopefully this will settle some of the myths we all here on one versus the other. The artcile should answer most of your questions except for which brand:

He has been trying to sell the set for months. The problem is that a gen owner doesn't need another dial and the reps, if I remember correctly, do not have the same sub-dial functions in the same location.
Looks great. What does "up now opps" mean? Tell me you have a titanium buckle for that rubber strap. That is what has always stopped me from putting on a rubber strap.
Ubi-
Who has the best sub? Can you sell it to me?
By the way I am all for hazing. Scares off the riff raff. Those who are truly interested will persevere. I am kidding but not really.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a dial for my MBW. I am looking to convert an MBW Comex into a vintage SD of some form. The inaccuracy on the dial (misalignment of certified and chronometer) and inaccurate "Comex" engraving is getting to me.
IMHO the bigger issue is that these are/were being sold as genuine ETA movements and they are not. I have no reason to believe that this is a malicious act on the part of the dealers. How would they know without taking one apart. But I will now always be wondering what movement we are getting in the next new "ETA" watch. Please tell me that this is not the same movement that was selling for $200 for movement only. A watch with this movement in it should be priced substantially less than a true ETA movement. I also would be curious whether the manufacturers are doing this to save money or because ETA parts are becoming harder to source.
Apples and oranges. You won't gp wrong with either but for totally different reasons. Are you looking for a rep of a multi-thousand dollar watch or a Seiko?
For larger rooms (i.e. larger than 42") I prefer Plasma. It is the reasonably priced alternative and I prefer them for movie and event viewing. The contrast/color seems more vibrant. These are impressions not scientific test though. They do have a finite life. But on the newer models the burn in issue has largely disappeared. When the picture goes bad you throw them out. The LCD I use as my every day TV. The sweetspot in terms of price appears to be 40" where I am. Both my LCD and Plasma hang on walls so there is no viewing angle issue. I have a DLP rear projection as well. They suck. Viewing angle is very limited both horizontally and vertically. My simple rule of thumb is LCD for "normal" to smaller rooms which naturally takes a 42" or smaller flat screen. Go Plasma for the family room/theatre. My 2 cents.
The Jimmy CG gives me every bit as good a feel when opening as a gen. Also Ziggy does something to the standard crown guards so they open and shut smoothly and firmly. The little rubber sleeve on the Jimmy makes all the difference on feel when opening though. I never took my gen CG apart but I assumed it had a rubber sleeve like the Jimmy's do. But I have always maintained that a watch is a watch. If put together and serviced properly a high end rep may not be as good as a gen in terms of finish but should be just fine in most cases.
The spelling mistake has been corrected on that model. The mispelling is above the 6 o'clock sub dial and relates to "Automatic Chrono". I can't remember which letter but I believe it is the "i" in automatic which is missing. Someone else can correct me if I am wrong.

Of course I get to keep the Watchmasters. They are not reps.
But they are not disappearing into an orifice. It's sensitive.
There are perks to that hotel next to Madison Square Garden. It is most likely across the street from a "gentlemen's club" if it its the one I am thinking about. There are youth hostels as well. I know there is one on 94th between Lex and Third. I see people outside of it all the time.
In the current environment a good price for a "reasonable" hotel is typically closer to $300 unless you find one on one of the travel websites that is offering a special. I am sure you know that the minute you go over the bridge into Queens (directly across from mid town) prices fall dramatically. $2.00 AND 10-15 minutes and you are mid-town via the Subway.
