  1. I was in Calgary last week. Couple of good natural resource clients there. Man, the city has changed.
  2. By-Tor- Who has the best sub? Sandwich that is.
  3. Thomas- So sorry to hear the bad news. Best of luck landing a new job quickly. Just make sure to sue if you are not getting a proper exit package.
  4. Well we are going to know. While Ziggy is off I am trying to source the movement and then he will give it a try.
  5. I long since gave up on a NY watchsmith. Two scarring experiences early on. I ship everything to Ziggy. Never fails. Unfortunately, I think he is off for the Summer.
  6. In my case I am using a WM case and dial combo which is 100% accurate to the gen. If it requires that much work I will end up taking a pass.
  7. Were you looking at the 24 with 7750 movement. I think it has a similar weight and feel to the Arktos. But I do wish they had 60 click bezels like the 187. This 12 click thing is bush. Do you run out of air in five minute increments?

    My 187

Congrats- It is huge. And I am sure he loves it. I do.
  9. Tescardo- You are right. Maybe the black does as well and I just can't see it.
  10. This is getting a little silly. I don't see the principal issue here being overcharged for having a watch sent back. When I ship watches and send Express Mail the base charge is something like $17.00 and insurance adds another few dollars. I think there are more fundamental issues: Is it fair to charge shipping at all on a watch you have had for several months and not done any work on? Is Joe so far behind on what he has got that he should slow down or stop acceptance of new work from customers or at least warn potential customers that it may well be months before you're watch is returned? On the comment on pricing, he does make it clear what he charges. You have to decide whether it is worth it for you. I do hope Joe feels better and responds. The one comment I have seen several times is that he has well over 100 watches in his shop awaiting work. If this is true, folks should know that. If it is not true, folks should know that too. I also hope that he is not actually writing about a Ziggy Palp conspiracy. That is silly too. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
  11. Actually, it looks like the first gens of these have the same principal flaws of the first generation: 1. Very prevalent recessed dials on gen. Looks like none on the Reps 2. The Font for "Panerai Luminor Daylight" may look light relative to the gen In addition it is most likely the second generation inferior (read cheaper) light case and overextended bezel combo which results in a lighter watch. Also as someone noted, no individual serial number Further: But: With elimination of all main hour numbers other than "12" the problem of weak number font on the original 188 goes away My conclusion: Very good for a first gen. Add the recessed dials, palp crown and Finepics datewheel and these look pretty damn good.
  12. Actually, I am contemplating the same thing. I have a WM vintage on the way and am hopeful of getting the right rolex/cortebet pocket watch movement for Ziggy to install. The movement in the vintages was a standard rolex pocket watch movement. Just make sure it is the right movement. By the way some have Rolex bridges and some don't.
  13. Docblackrock- Thank you for posting. All accurate posts, both positive and negative, are helpful to the membership. Everyone should post both good and bad transactions (or delays in this case). I guess it is a little surprising that he wants you to pay the shipping since he has had it for 3-4 months. In fairness, Joe is ill and so you don't want to kick someone when they are down. And you are not. Irrespective of that, if he is in fact way behind on work irrespective of cause the membership should know that and what to expect in terms of timing before sending. As I say this I have never had Joe work on my watches so I have no axe to grind. If he is truly behind I hope he will tell the forum members that when he returns and then repost his availability for additional work when he has worked through the backlog. If the delay relates simply to illness I still hope he will post that and once again let the membership know when he has the health and time to take on more work.
  14. Not just mine. In spite of everyone's fabulous sentiment. Mine, at a minimum, needs the second hand glued. Someone else's has a pusher problem. Asian 7750 is what it is. That is why I have been telling people to save their dollars for 7753 version.
  15. Best of luck on your dissertation. I know how painful it can be. But there is no better feeling than when you are done. We will miss you though.
  16. Veni- You rock. I disappear to see what I can find on Paneristi, come back and VOILA.
  17. I have lost the link for whoever sells the large leather strap case which I think is made by Wojtecki. Can someone either post or PM contact info. Thanks, Kruzer
  18. Loved the movie. The watch looks great. I did learn a new word too - Superlumalicious. Fabuloso. Wear it well.
  19. ExWatchmaster is the creator. As of recently he only shows select items on TRC having had some bad experiences with others on the forums. Buy one and you are hooked. He is a fabulous guy but rightfully shy.
  20. You can strike the dealer theory. One each from Eddie (196), Andrew (Breitling), Sean (24) and now Ken (187) although I suspect it will only require gluing the hands. The basic mechanism looks good.
  21. Neil- Glad to see you are back. Hope you enjoyed the vacation.
  22. Ken is the international agent for Watchonpo. He runs a limited catalog at Etaworldgoods.com. Ususally he can get anything Watchonpo is offering. His service and communication is excellent. If there are problems he does immediately rectify them. Be prepared as he is expensive though. Watches are typically priced at a 10-20% premium to Watchonpo's direct website but they do not ship outside Japan. He operates outside of China but the watch I received (187) shipped directly from Guangzhou where I am told Watchonpo is now located. The story (which I can not confirm) goes that Watchonpo is the largest dealer in Japan and used to operate out of Japan but had to move offshore. They then set up shop in China. They do have a history of coming out with exclusive models. Beyond the 187, they had a 3 month exclusive on the 2893 GMT's and Power Reserves. Back then they used another person for distribution who started out okay but ultimately started screwing up. All of my interaction with Ken has been very professional. As far as I know he operates by bank transfer or money order. Does not take Paypal. Hope this helps.
  23. Yeah, but those two are entirely different thing. The $1100 one has proper dimensioned 47mm fixed lug case (very rare) with dimensions identical to the 3646 and Kampfschwimmer vintages. It also has true older russian movement which is built like a tank and very nice vintage touch on the dial and hands. The second one is a radiomir with custom brown dial and different hands. Both are watchmaster originals and that is what you are paying for. Not everyone's cup of tea but he has a very loyal following (including me) for good reason. River's is a perfectly nice piece but not in the same league. I am surprised at the price though but I may be missing something.
  24. In that case, I give up. It is official that the Asian 7750 is a rock solid movement and is every bit as good as the Swiss 7750. Now we know. We should never pay a premium for Swiss movement chronos.
