  1. wow that's excellent news.. can't wait for it...

actually i found a couple of em at puretimes and timeshops... but as we all know, puretimes got FBI'ed already. The timeshops.net has a couple of cheapo PO with "ceramic coated" bezel.. doesn't sound like its full ceramic.

all those i came across has the "happy feet" logo which is a no no for me :(

Yep, don't bother with those, they are pretty poor, better off getting the old PO rep (non-ceramic) than those ones. There should be a reasonable release out sometime in the next few months, it wont quite look like jeffs ones :D but it will be alot better than those cheapo ones. It was actually due for release over the summer, so could be earlier than xmas, hold out and wait for that one,

  2. Contact Tissot, and tell them you operate the Large Hadron Collider at the weekends, and you are not impressed with the performance of their watches, tell them you'd be happy to test out the performance of a free moonwatch in it's place! ;)

  3. Josh doesn't do discounts:

Thou shall not ever summon the audacity to ask for a discount!

Shipping is fine to the UK though, never an issue, the only potential problem at the moment is all packages from everywhere are receiving huge amounts of scrutiny because of some big sporting event in a few weeks time. They won't be interested in a few watches but expect some delays and a bit of a backlog after the games!

  4. You got good enough innings out of it if it lasted 5 years :) ...You could ask one of the dealers to source you a 7750, if it's one of the better day date aquaracers it is possibly worth holding onto as I don't think these have changed much over the years. Swiss valijoux are a little on the expensive side but it all depends how much the rep is worth to you. I'm sure one of the dealers like Andrew would be able to source a movement for you. Sorry couldn't be more help, best of luck! Also btw have a look at the new aquaracers, these are fairly decent reps also!

  5. hate to break it to you guys, but pretty much every watch with a display back and 'blued' screws looks like (insert your favorite word that refers to excrement.)

I'd disagree with that to a certain extent, sure many don't look like the gen, but some can look like good as a standalone movement, nothing at all unattractive about a nice ST19:

but all this talk of 1:1 reps and 100 PERCENT INTERCHANGEABLE stuff lately reminds me of the old AAAA+++ vs AAA stuff :)

Agree with that totally, I believe there are whole swathes of new recruits to the rep scene thinking that every $400 1:1 is basically the exact equivalent of a $6000 gen it is copied from, ....while there is absolutely nothing wrong with a quality constructed rep, this whole 1:1 stuff is being entirely misconstrued by far too many....this usually leads to disappointment somewhere along the line!

  6. Great work TC, I think my V2 looks great but the perfect flat cut edging and excellent stamping and engravings on these make it very interesting and well worth the upgrade. I don't know how you do it, but keep doing what you are doing ;)

  7. I know this has been done before but I was cleaning up today and pulled this out of a drawer, I previously pulled this out of the drawer about 6 months ago and tried to clean it up and time it (it actually timed @ +15secs pd). Today I took a photo of it! I bought it on canal st around '98 for I think $30. I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread at the time.

It is an a21j with for some reason, sapphire crystal on it (which helped as it trashed around ;)) When I picked it up for this photo today it started ticking again within seconds. It just never seems to die on me!

I wore it for a number of years and gave it a terrible time as a beater, but it never failed me! At one stage for a couple of years I used it doing demolition work on bomb proofed buildings in London's square mile. So as beaters go it was really tested. It never once stopped going. I wore it everywhere, working, to the beach, to weddings, holidays, this has even been to the top of the World Trade Centre in NY.

Even though it looks like a crap rep and I stopped wearing it nearly a decade ago it still has a lot of sentimental value to me, I thought about just throwing it out a few times but could never do so..... it's strange how sentimental value can be applied to these things!

I'm sure a lot of ye have some old reps (some much older than the tag I'd imagine), have ye any pics and details, I'd love to hear them :)

  8. I think trip and Pan covered it, just to add, the little finicky things that bug us, they don't really care, if it looks good enough to them and they think it will sell then the 'jobs a good one' as far as they're concerned, they only make improvements if they get enough feedback about an issue to think it's worthy of changing so that they can cash in on version 2 etc.

Also things have to be taken into account like if they bought the gen for a 1:1 type project, the limited movements available to fit a certain watch etc, who takes on the job i.e. a big producer like noob or a smaller more specialised factory, ...the experience that particular factory has with the features of the watch being repped (Have they a good track record with similar for instance).

We invariably see the 1:1 craze over the past while has produced much better fare (plenty still with flaws but on the whole much better efforts) than the average picture copied watch that the rep scene is flooded with. Still a long way to go but for the price and the poor QC that is so dominant in this game, we are getting some very good stuff.

I've heard the talk before that if they produced a true 1:1 99% quality rep then the gen factories would go ape on them...I don't believe that for a second, the truth seems to be that if they had some of the better rep experts from the forums or people more intimate with the small details doing QC and managing the finicky flaws then we would get a bloody next to perfect rep. But why bother, extra expense for them, extra prototyping and too much attention to detail that they don't want to take on or couldn't be bothered. It's more interesting for them to get it good and watch it sell than analysing and prototyping for ages and missing out!
