  1. That looks fantastic, can you keep this thread updated on how it turns out. Also can I ask where are you sourcing the parts from (difficult even to find part nos) as ofrei has nothing as far as my quick look can see and neither do cousinsuk. And now that these watches have been stupidly discontinued by Omega it is probably very difficult to source parts for these.
  2. I don't think there is a blue planet ocean, if there is it is a fantasy model...i.e. real version doesn't exist! Do you mean the seamaster professional i.e. bond watch? If you are getting a planet ocean get either black bezel/white numbers, black bezel/orange number or orange bezel/orange numbers. The old seamsaster chrono is a great rep but it is a monster sized watch and also difficult to find...the newer ones (raised logos are meant to be pretty good though.) The speedmaster pro has never been accurate...unfortunately. No, asian movements are either chinese clones of swiss movements i.e. Asian Eta 2824 or Asian 7750 or clones of japanese myota movements i.e DG 2812(asian 21j). No ETA was/is a Basque separatist terrorist organisation seeking to gain independence....Oh wait.... Yes ETA is a company that makes movements for the swiss watch industry. i.e. Swiss ETA 2824 / ETA 2892 / Valjoux 7750. Depends on whether you can pull it off but tbh, I've a 6.75" wrist and I find the fit of the 42mm to be much more suitable than the bigger version. 42mm is very similarly repped to the 45mm these days, someone who has both might pipe in and clarify but afaik the only difference is the omega logo is better placed. Chronos can be unreliable at times, usually they need a service before they can operate up to speed, the asian 7750 is not too bad, it's variations of this like A7753 that can be a minefield. tbh I'd echo above and stick with non chrono for a bit until you spread out shall we say. A good omega chrono rep seems to be the speedmaster date. It is one of the more accurate looking omegas. It is just a variation of the DG2813 (asian 21j) movement that beats slightly faster than the dg2813, 8 beats per second to the standard asian 21j 6 beats a second. It looks more like an ETA 2824 in operation.(If you've got good eyes!) The million dollar question, yes, you can, some very good low priced reps, do a search on the forum for best budget reps and you would get a better idea. Very hard to say off hand what would suit you, everybody has different tastes, some cheap rolex sub reps can be very good. Josh is good, but most of the dealers have stuff from the same factories, prices and QC can vary, I'd say stick with one of the main dealers for a bit and then shop around. tony at asian7750 is also a very reliable dealer.
  3. Keep us updated on this project please, very interested to hear that these can be frankened, didn't realise they could be, but should've known the 2500 cal is based on the 2892. What sort of prices are we looking at? Of course the simple black dial version seems to be only available in 2824 from the dealers and not 2892 as the other variations are. The rep is quite a decent copy in itself, of course they messed up the omega logo and the happy feet....couldn't have it any other way with the factories! A quick redial and hand change on these and they would look very good...at least from the front.
  4. Cheers, sishac, in touch with you over at rg!
  5. Tony at Asian7750.com link above (or here: http://www.asian7750.com/cn/product_list.asp?big_id=75&ps_id=101) will get you one, I do hope it is the same as the one above, this thread is quite old, however Fxrandy and Stephane and tony himself seems to say it is so that's good enough for me. If you do order one from Tony please do a favour and post any QC pics so we can know for certain
  6. Hmmm, tempting offer Gimme, thanks for posting it. Thing is I have a gen omega brown alligator strap, and a gen bellini handmade alligator strap....just waiting for a railmaster or aqua terra so paying extra for the strap wasn't really what I intended. However the watch looks great, and I will seriously consider it. At mo I'm sort of in negotiations for a used gen aqua terra at a very decent price (2500 calibre style) so if I go ahead with that, my railmaster craving might be satisfied for a while.....although I'm a fickle bstard so maybe not!
  7. It would be lovely to see a decent speedy rep but wouldn't hold my breath, I got so [censored] off of waiting for a decent rep of the moony I eventually bit the bullet and went out and picked up a great quality used gen. I wore the rep for 3 years so I knew it was a grail and a definite keeper. I'm glad I went gen on that as it really is a unique and gorgeous watch in the flesh. Also Seeing the sudden increase in 3570.50 prices recently I'm glad I got it when I did. A decent rep of the new speedy auto released at Basel this year would be a great addition but wouldn't hold my breath on that one either!
  8. Cheers guys, Ronin that's a lovely Ball watch, read your superb review, I'd been looking for a hommage style railmaster if I couldn't get hold of a decent quality railmaster rep and that might fit the bill. It's a lovely watch in it's own right, sort of reminded me of a pilots watch style casing aswell, or maybe i've just been looking to close at conceptas iwc mark xvi frankens. Definitely a great gen to consider. On the railmaster front it looks like signumboy may be right, difficult to find, most not in stock or not findable in requested format although Tony at asian7750 says he can get them as asked so may go that route. I do hope he is certain of that! FxrAndy, I saw your old railmaster pictured going through the old search and yes that was stunning, that's exactly the one I want. You should never have sold it....or rather you should've sold it to me
  9. Yeah trust me to suddenly get a craving for an old classic watch that is now as rare as hen's teeth to find. Some of the dealers listed above have pics on site listing it as having nickel plated finished movement....others are saying they haven't been available since 2009, only gold finished movements available....I don't know what to believe! I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and order and then reject on the QC pics if not as stated. I also see pt uk has the one in the 2008 review above still listed on his site...if it's the same one as the review then great but I won't hold my breath! Anyway thanks!
  10. Looking for the old style railmaster 2824-2 39mm with 'narrow' numbers and nickel plated rotor rather than gold color. These are not easy to find atm...anybody tell me where they got theirs. So far I've come accross these: http://perfect2clones.com/omra10004-ss-black-39mm-in-leather-swiss-eta-28242-p-1482.html http://www.1-pc8838.com/omra10004-black-39mm-leather-swiss-28242-p-1065.html http://silix-prime.com/omes041-p-1662.html http://www.asian7750.com/cn/product_show.asp?big_pid=&ps_id=101&P_id=443&ti= http://www.kingshowbox.com/goods.php?id=3256 Prices range from 200 dollars to 300 dollars with jandrew. Although not sure if silix 200 dollar version is the same as the others but it certainly looks as if it is. Basically it has to be this one: Anybody bought any railmasters recently and have anything to say about the quality or any other input. Cheers!
  11. Actually some of them look quite good! Thanks, must have a closer look! Might design meself a beater/shed/gardening watch
  12. Wow, that's quite a franken! Enjoy! Just out of interest, how much did it cost for the lot? If you don't want to answer fair enough, I can always look the prices up...but I'm lazy
  13. Yep, thats what the gen looks like! Its really cool, you walk indoors after being outdoors in the spring sun for 5 mins and the watch is glowing, part of its great character. Enjoy it, I'll assume it's relumed, if its out of the box then I'm really surprised. Might sell my gen and get the rep
  14. The logo positioning actually looks very good on that!...what is it with the factories, even when they temporarily fcuk something up, they [censored] everyone off by fixing something else that has been bugging the rep world since the release of this PO?
  15. I think the pearl looks quite good, not as garish as some others, nice write-up!
  16. Where do they keep the clean-rooms, hidden in the paddy fields? These watches are figments of vivid imaginations!
  17. It's funny you mentioned that thread, I was on it at one stage. You were better off staying out of it, it became very messy on a few occasions. I agree with you, It's mind-boggling the complete disdain some have for reps, nobody was expecting them to say the they could like reps, but to completely blank some interesting arguments about the usefulness of reps and keep shouting 'fake', 'fake', 'go away trolls' was very childish, didn't expect much more to be honest though. Interestingly the guys who did see some value in reps, or those that at least tried to see other points of view came across much as more informative and thought-provoking. Some of the others you'd swear never downloaded an mp3 in their life. Bigots mostly! Such is life!
  18. No chance, keep them separate. You will eventually bring heat on a cross forum same name. I spend more time on gen forums than I do here, but they are a different breed, almost impossible to broach the subject of reps with them. In some cases it's outright banned even mentioning reps. I've on occasions tried to stir the pot but its hard going and you will often be labelled a pariah! The usual stuff....which is true; rep enthusiasts know more about actual internals and mechanisms than the vast majority on gen sites...that gets em going! Also rep enthusiasts flag more dodgy stuff on ebay than gen owners could ever even recognise! ....I need to calm it down at times. On tz-uk its a little bit more open or less moderated, the mod allows talk about it for educational purposes...in other words he doesnt give a fc*k. The forum members however can be as seething as on wus, on occasions though you get the odd one or two, who know their stuff and are more 'enlightened' shall we say!
  19. For some reason, I think we are going to struggle to get a decent rep of this, if the factories still struggle to get a basic PO/smp pearl right, then this particular bezel is gonna be a nightmare for them!
  20. OP, or anyone else for that matter! Slightly off topic but seeing as you dismantled the watch could you tell me are the end lug areas on the case of these 5th gens perfectly polished or brushed so that it would take an after market strap i.e. leather or maratac or something.... and not look ridiculous with half finished machine marks on the end link area of the case?
  21. Looks definitely gen, bezel correct, pearl correct, He valve correct size/shape, crown correct size/shape, dial perfect just not very clear from pic, finishing doesnt look great but thats what happens after a couple years wear...but overall its a crap photo with blown out highlights which actually make it look like a very good franken! Still I hope you're not buying from one single photo like this...that would be a wrong way to go about gen purchases..
  22. No you're right, membership makes the fora, and we are all more than likely crossmembers so I wasn't having a stab in that way. Nothing personal whatsover against trailboss either, ....it just seemed 'over moderated' or something over there. Anyway I'll leave it at that, it was never my intention to start a flame war or anything, and I realise I don't have to go to the site if I don't want to as the others are more than enough! LOL
  23. Not really any agenda mate, just thought I'd ask a simple question about the atmosphere over there at times (and acknowledged I'd probably get flamed!). I have neither been banned nor have had any arguments or axes to grind over there. I've been involved in rep forums a long time even though I'm not a big poster obviously. I was member of replicacollector for years and was a member over there before the newer evolution of the site. So its clearly just an observation rather than a shitstir! I acknowledge that every forum on the web probably has it's 'cliques' of their own, and that one seems to have its very own particular type, it makes contributing or even 'reading up on whats new' very difficult on it, as its simply not as 'open' as here or rg for that matter (imo that is!)
  24. I may get flamed for this, bring it on if you want but just asking what people think of replica-watch.info forums? I get that we are all in it for the reps and any sibling sites are great when we take into consideration the amount of scam sites on the web. And I realise many users on here and repgeek will most likely have an account over there...the thing is sometimes I get the impression over there from some members that they are the 'definitive' rep site, a slight arrogance abounds all the time, quite often a little quip about how rwgforum or repgeek are not quite as polished as they are. Often they'll quote how good their selection of 'trusted dealers' are the 'only' ones to deal with as somehow they have been vetted better than the other sites (Watcheden ffs!) .....and god forbid someone mentions Josh or andrew!????????
  25. I thought it was supposed to be worn on the non-dominant wrist, so the opposite of your dominant hands wrist...so as to protect the watch! I guess at the end of the day who give a fcuk. Only think is if you wear it on your dominant wrist then be prepared for the watch to get more wear as you are going to knock it and bash it into things more often!
