Any classic arcade / MAME fans?

I'm a huge gaming fan. And while I like the new games I often go back and play the original Atari arcade classics, which still have superb gameplay. Thank god for emulators!

Check this out... a must for all vector game fans!!

Can't go back playing the MAME versions after this...absolutely cool how this program simulates the genuine vector screen.

Here's the emulator with full ROMset, ready to use.

Gravitar and Tempest are just insanely amazing games. Spent my youth playing them. MAME can't quite capture the "essence" of these vector games but this program certainly can. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Yeah... I love Tempest. Gravitar is even better. Probably the best arcade game ever done. 100% pure skill.

These original classics are unmatched when it comes to gameplay. Avoid the bastardized Java arcades. :D

It's almost the same. But the speed is too fast... and without proper vector display it's just

Check it out on this emulator. I just scored 172.000 this morning. :Jumpy:

Defender, Dig Dug, Tempest, Karate Champ, Sinistar, the list goes on and on. There are so many endless classics. Funny thing is that I still have a working Atari, Commodore 64, Intellivision and Collecovision. I picked up the Collecovision and Intellivision at a garage sale complete with system and about 30 games for $50. I have 15 game systems hooked up to my media room. It's hard to compete with the classics for raw enjoyment though.

@chronoluvv: It's an arcade game emulator. It's like MAME but only specified for the vector arcade games.

  • 6 months later...

for one of the very few times in my life, i have no idea what this is all about

MAME and other programs like it use the actual software from arcade machines to replicate 1970's, 80s, 90s etc arcade classic games on your modern computer.

ROM collections are packages of real Arcade software, rescued by game lovers the world over, before machines were destroyed etc ... The emulation programs load up the ROM files and viola .. you have an actual Arcade game running on your PC.

I have a mame cabinet project i've been holding off on for awhile now.

Damn... I've been dreaming about a MAME cabinet for a long time. Too bad we're living in a city apartment and there isn't enough room.

But when we buy a house I'll be getting a MAME cabinet and a few pinballs. Maybe Twilight Zone and Theatre of Magic. My wife would probably leave me though. Decisions, decisions...

Maybe this would be a bit too much though. :Jumpy:
