robertk Posted October 4, 2009 Report Share Posted October 4, 2009 I'm a huge admirer of UN's and was reluctant to pick up some new reps since I already have a ton, but I couldn't resist. But when these showed up..... Picked up a UN Blue Surf and Maxi Diver. Both are very close to the gen and the bracelets are outstanding. The big difference is size. The blue surf is 43mm (approx) and the Maxi diver is 45MM. Both are heavy watches but the Max diver is heavier. That is the difference between the gen and rep. The gen is titanium and rep is stainless steel. That's about the only difference i see. I'll let the pictures do the talking: The two side by side: notice the difference in size. The bracelets are different sizes as well: Maxi Diver: Blue Surf: These UN's represent the new quality of reps we're seeing. It's actually pretty scary when you compare them with the Gen's. Toadtorrent Posted October 4, 2009 Report Share Posted October 4, 2009 I wasn't too sure about some of the UNs because they seem to be a little "fashion forward" and lacking the traditional classic-ness to keep things interesting in the long term. BUT, I have to say, when I saw the 45mm MMD gen with the silver dial in the AD window, it really stood out as something special. There's a sheen to it and dimension that give the watch real interest. I'm now going to order the strap for the maxi diver. Nice option and actually the watch may look better on it. As for these being "designer" watches.......they are. Normally that's not my thing, as you know. I'm a vintage guy. These just stood out and since I'm a serious collector decided to add them to the collection. I have the rubber on order,($65.00) I to think It might look a little better, although I do like the bracelet. It Is also keeping excellent time with a very good PR. I've been debating purchasing a blue surf, but I really want the dimpled rhodium dialed MMD, which surprisingly has yet to be released.
