mastrmindalliance
Hi, think I'm going to pick myself up the over sized datejust. This one. I'm wondering if the 2836-2 movement is much better than the 2813? I won't buy another 2813. The 2836-2 would save me $50 but if it's just as crappy I'll just go with the ETA. Thanks for any advice! tomhorn
IMO the 2836-2 clone would be better than the 2813. If you order the 'Swiss' 2836-2 I'd say you are still probably no better than 50-50 to actually get a 'Swiss' movement anyway, so the clone is probably your sweet-spot. alligoat
This is one of those deals where you won't know for sure if you're getting a Swiss ETA until you buy it, and then open it up, or have a watchmaker open it up and confirm it for you. Hopefully it will be, or you can order the asian 2836 and just hope it works well. I guess if it were me, I'd probably order the Swiss ETA. If it were to give me trouble, at least my watchmaker will service it. He doesn't service the 2836 clones. If I did end up with a clone movement and had trouble, then I'd have to get a gen ETA and have him install it in the watch. To enjoy reps, it helps to have a watchmaker you can depend on. Toadtorrent
As others have said, the issue with paying for a Swiss ETA is that you pay the price, but have no guarantee of getting the product. If you pay for the Asian clone, you pay the discount, and know what you are getting. Odds are good, your watchmaker would likely not be able to tell the difference between the Asian clone and the gen article. That knowledge is found here, and is pretty specialized (not to RWG WIS's of course). If you buy the Asian clone, swapping out to a gen ETA is farely easy and cost effective (vs. the hassle of going Swiss from the 2813).
mastrmindalliance
Thanks guys, Having bought both 2813 and "swiss" ETA reps so far, I understand the difference. Whether swiss or not the ETA is quality movement when compared to the 2813. I'm really just wondering if the 2836-2 is considered a decent movement in its own right or if it's generally considered crappy like the 2813? Thanks again! JoJo35
2836-2 ETA is time tested and top of the line (unless of course, it's compared to my fav )
