Velasco Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Hi all, thanks to a fellow member from RWG I've been able to keep modding my 1680. It is still a work in progress but the new dial makes a huge difference... Next steps: - new insert - vintage pearl - some case aging - vintage overlay... ...any suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks for looking. V.
Cats Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Hi Valesco, nice work you did on your 1680. It's a little too much for my taste but i think a lot of people will like the end result. wear it well. Carpe Diem Cats
redwatch Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 I love it. The new insert should be nice, but I would still age it.
TeeJay Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 How did you get that 'melted Cadburys' effect for the dial? This was the effect I achieved with mine by baking the dial for about 30 seconds
jmb Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Velasco, that thing really looks OLD! As with Cats, it's a bit more ancient for my tastes but it looks believable, not artificial. Good job
JoJo35 Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Nice job V, I think it looks great. I would leave the insert/pearl (or lack thereof) alone, and concentrate more on the case softening. What crown/tube combo are you using? JJ
Velasco Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 Nice job V, I think it looks great. I would leave the insert/pearl (or lack thereof) alone, and concentrate more on the case softening. What crown/tube combo are you using? JJ Thanks JJ Yep you're totally right. After seeing the pics... the case looks too new - and edges too sharp. I'm using the standard mbw crown/tube. V.
Velasco Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 How did you get that 'melted Cadburys' effect for the dial? It came with the dial... This effect is achieved by reluming the dial.
TeeJay Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 It came with the dial... This effect is achieved by reluming the dial. Ahh, I was curious as I believe I've seen a post before where someone used shoe polish to achieve the look
Velasco Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 Phase II: new insert and aged case cheers V.
JoJo35 Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 Looks great V, now the case matches everything else
Stormfather Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 ehm....may i ask a question please? i still don't know much about the whole theme here but, and don't hit me please, why do you destroy a watch to....this??? is it some kinda special stile? like some people tune cars to wrecked looking ones?
TeeJay Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 ehm....may i ask a question please? i still don't know much about the whole theme here but, and don't hit me please, why do you destroy a watch to....this??? is it some kinda special stile? like some people tune cars to wrecked looking ones? This model would have been made in the mid seventies, and time and wear takes its toll on a watch, so it's just a case of making the watch look accurate for the age it should be
JoJo35 Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 This model would have been made in the mid seventies Actually, that's a meters first dial, bringing the watch back to '67 or so
polexpete Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Nice work, i like chocolate too.....
Velasco Posted December 24, 2009 Author Report Posted December 24, 2009 A 40-year old watch should look, at least, used. Furthermore, if these beauties were exposed to extreme weather conditions... they should look like Polexpete's 1680. Fantastic work, congratulations Pete. BTW, the destruction process continues... Cheers- V
