Media feeds on disasters.. scandals..anything that will stir the morbid side of the human race.. the more gruesome the better.. it sells print, viewer ratings go up.. it is the only part of the business that matters.. Publishers are lighting up cigars when tragedy hits..

What I stay away from is the hype that goes along with the feeding frenzy..the media will milk this for every extra tabloid, every extra news print that can be sold, television and radio will spin off more tales of infidelity, and probably add a few of their own.. checking with their attorneys to see how far they can stretch it.

I don't have to buy into it.. true or fabricated.. I turn the channel.. station.. I won't buy periodicals.. this could last for months..and this is what most of the population.. who don't even tune into golf at all will eat up.. especially the Female gender.. and I'm not being sexist in stating this.....men.. well we can say he should not have done it.. and most of us wouldn't.. but we can understand the fuck up a little more graciously than the female gender..they would like nothing more than to rip his manhood out... and they are the gender that the media is catering to and depending on to boost ratings etc... especially on slow newsdays..and the media will sadly Milk the female gender dry..

I mean in the time that this was made public the only comment amongst my buddies.. is we say something along the lines of .. "He's Fucked".... yeah.. yeah.. end of conversation on the Tiger Topic.. cause we all don't want to talk about it.. hits men right between the ...........

Letterman is grateful to Tiger me thinks.. took some of the heat off him..

me.. I think......

it is after all Tigers life.. however he chooses to live it.. he will ultimately be the one who pays the consequences...... the only one that he has to live with is himself...

but ultimately his legacy will be from now forward.. not what he does on the golf course, because he's proven that, he's basically done it all..it will be judged and spewed out by the media, because the poll of Public Opinion is what makes the world go round..when you are in the lime light.. and of Icon status..

"What price Glory" ??... it comes with a heavy burden.. the burden of public opinion.. sucks if you ask me.. but the world has it's own Ying and Yang..

Facts:

Eldrick Tont Woods (born December 30, 1975), better known as Tiger Woods,[4] is an American professional golfer whose achievements to date rank him among the most successful golfers of all time. Currently the World No. 1, he is the highest-paid professional athlete in 2008, having earned an estimated $110 million from winnings and endorsements.[5]

Woods has won 14 professional major golf championships, the second highest of any male player, and 71 PGA Tour events, third all time.[6] He has more career major wins and career PGA Tour wins than any other active golfer. He is the youngest player to achieve the career Grand Slam, and the youngest and fastest to win 50 tournaments on tour. Additionally, Woods is the second golfer to have achieved a career grand slam three times along with Jack Nicklaus. Woods has won 16 World Golf Championships and has won at least one event each of the 11 years they have been in existence.

Woods has held the number one position in the world rankings for the most consecutive weeks and for the greatest total number of weeks. He has been awarded PGA Player of the Year a record ten times,[7] the Byron Nelson Award for lowest adjusted scoring average a record eight times, and has the record of leading the money list in nine different seasons. He has been named Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year a record-tying four times, and is the only person to be named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year more than once.

If we look at what brands have dropped Tiger they are the ones who sell products equally to men and women. Tag had much to lose by sticking with him....their women buyers. Men have a very different opinion of Tiger and his transgressions than women do. My wife and 16 year old daughter think he is a dog plain and simple. They want Elin to leave him and to leave him fast. To them the Tiger Woods brand now stands for lying and cheating. I know that I am generalizing about women based on the two I know but any exceptions do not disprove the rule. To women Tiger has committed the worst sin against his wife.

I am not surprised that this happened. It seems that heroes are regularly being exposed as being incongruent people. Think back over the past decade of people who have portrayed themselves as being good, solid and trustworthy and then been caught with their pants down or hand in the cookie jar.

Roy Rogers is gone and so too are his kind.

Here's another one:

He cheated on his wife... As mentioned above, that's all he's going to be remembered for from now on...

Absolutely. I think the character portrayed by Patrick Swayze (RIP) in Donnie Darko was very deliberately created to put that message out there to the celebs: Watch out what you do "in private", because of your celebrity, your lives are not private, and you will be found out in time...

I totally have to agree about the differing opinions between men and women. Just wait for the next golf tournament Tiger is a part of - women will be hissing while guys still shout out "get in the hole!"

Although the catch phrase will now have extra meaning! ;)

My least favorite part of the whole thing is the finger-wagging by members of the media who are very likely banging their own interns. I think Tiger should resist most strongly the pressure to humble himself in the public eye.

In my imaginary capacity as life coach to Tiger Woods, here is my prescription for him:

1. Press domestic violence charges against Elin. Where I live (in California) a domestic violence conviction makes it almost impossible to be awarded custody of one's children, and there are many hoops the violator must jump through to become rehabilitated in the eyes of the family court. I'm not a lawyer, and Florida may be different, but this move will give him more leverage than he would otherwise.

2. Divorce. This thing is ruined. Use the extra leverage to give her as little money as possible.

3. Play golf.

4. Avoid Oprah and her ilk at all costs. You're already humiliated, don't make it worse.

5. Once the divorce and custody agreement is finalized, own your new image. This will include, but is not limited to:

Wearing a pimp hat; Carrying a walking stick topped with a hectogram-sized diamond; Banging every broad that comes within 5-iron range; Purchasing the Playboy Mansion and intensifying its intended uses; and Seeking new endorsement opportunities with such products as Extenze, Trojans, Bell Helmets, Viagra, Energizer Batteries, Red Bull, etc.

6. Be patient. Win another major and nobody will care anymore...with the exception of a certain childless, impoverished, Swede.

If you read between the lines, he's still effectively getting canned. They're 'scaling back' his use until he decides to return to the center stage (assuming he ever does) Of course, it could be that if/when he returns to the limelight, they will increase his exposure accordingly, or, as might also be the case, by that time, there may be a new 'flavor of the month' to help promote their goods ;)

What a man does in his provate time is his own business but you have to question his judgement especially with when he knows how much he has to lose should he get caught. I think that Tiger feels he won't get caught given his stature in the golfing scene and his carefully crafted public image. What he did not prepare for was perhaps all the women he's been with coming up to claim their 15 minutes of fame. Once that happened, no amount of damage control and cover up was possible. He couldn't have pulled off a Kobe caused he was far more promiscous.

Without condoning Tiger's antics. I do think this makes him more of a human and less of a robot. We've all made mistakes, right?

He just needs to come out and admit it. When he does that, I think I'll like him more. Also, just play golf Eldridge!

Oh, and now that all of this comes out, isn't it even more impressive we won all those tournaments when you know that he must rarely think about golf. When would he have the time? :drinks:
