BobDog Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Anybody see this news story: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/apr/27/7000-fake-rolex-watches-are-steamrolled-in-philly/
HauteHippie Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 "Binh Cam Tran, who pleaded guilty last year to charges including trafficking in counterfeit goods." He wasn't manufacturing the parts in his house, but rather receiving them and assembling the finished products I would think. Some of our dealers do the same here in the USA.
BobDog Posted May 8, 2010 Author Report Posted May 8, 2010 I agree with Chieftang that he assembled them. 5th paragraph reads: "Authorities say Tran fabricated hundreds of thousands of fake Rolex watches in his home near Philadelphia" Still, that's a lot of watches.
Dizzy Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 seized 24,000 watches, and enough parts to make a million more? WOW thats a LOT of parts
nakortheblue Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 If the parts cost even $10 per watch, that's a $10M inventory!
HauteHippie Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 If the parts cost even $10 per watch, that's a $10M inventory! Yea, something doesn't quite add up IMO. This is probably journalism at it's "best" here...
kbh Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Probably a total of a million parts turned into a million watches. Kind of how they price out large drug busts at street level prices. Makes for a better story.
plaifender Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 A million watches..??? I mean come on. I don't even think rolex makes a million watches in a year.......
Ronin Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Probably the east coast Canal Street crap provider...
ubiquitous Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Probably the east coast Canal Street crap provider... I agree. Probably an easy target to make an example out of as well for the authorities...
