Watchmeister
I have had a 170 for a number of years now and although I will never sell it am actually getting a little bored with the anthracite dial. Over the years I have also picked up additional traditional sub t-dials awaiting the next 24A project, etc. It occurred to me why not swap out the dials. Bear in mind this is not about permanently changing the watch but rather swapping out the dials and putting away the original for safekeeping. Curious to get folks' views. Here are some pics: AS IS: DIAL TO BE SWAPPED: PATHETIC OVERLAY TO GIVE A SENSE OF WHAT IT COULD LOOK LIKE: NOTHING TO DO WITH THE QUESTION BUT I CAME UPON A ZIGGY TRITIUM RELUME IN THE PARTS BOX WHICH WAS SO GOOD I HAD TO SHOW IT (they even glow the same):
ocram
Yep!!! Would definately do this!!!
panerai153
Why not? Changes the look a bit, but nothing drastic. It's not like you're swapping in a neon orange or hot pink dial!! AP
txcollector
Go for it. It will look a lot better (not a fan of anthracite dials myself). You can always revert back to the original and you certainly have the skills not to screw this up.
ghost
I'm assuming the 170 is a gen? Man how i'd love to own it!

HauteHippie
I'd definitely vote for doing the swap, W.... PS, Love the pathetic overlay.
w0lf
I'd do it too, be careful with the T-hands, they're not easy to come by in decent shape.

You're right but I can always send the watch in for service if it gets screwed up.
kbiz
I'd say leave it that's a beautiful watch and every time you remove the hands and dial you risk damaging something... you should build a new watch from the dial...
ubiquitous
W- You already know where I stand on this
wisrep2010
You're right but I can always send the watch in for service if it gets screwed up. Just make sure you send it in with the original dial - or Panerai won't touch it - BTW: I love the way the dial looks on the 170 and would not change it...but that's just me cheers WR
dluddy
You probably know what I think but I've never been a fan of a Submersible on the bracelet and although I like the Anthracite dial, the 024A is hard to top in my book
babola
Go and play with your reps W, leave the gens alone...LOL! :-) Seriously, I'd leave it be...but that's me. There's something particularly attractive about polished S/S case/bracelet in combination with the brushed anthracite dial with polished circles around hour markers. Watchmeister
Interesting, the no's are making a comeback. In all honesty, whether rep or gen doesn't really matter to me when it comes to modding. I do like the idea of building a 24A as well though. But still waiting for the mysterious Davidsen version. babola
Interesting, the no's are making a comeback. We're also known as slow, overly analytical, procrastinating and sometimes pessimistic. Oh, and yes...OCD, which goes without saying
flex
I wouldn't do it. your gen is beatiful and unique as it is. I would love to see how that dial is fitted on a PVD Sub case. that would be lovely. Flex
Katerchen
Great idea W! Just for the sake of beauty ---> swap and bring contrast to your life! Just my 2 cents. George
