jonthebhoy
Not sure if this will work but got to thinking that it would be good to post some of our favourite songs with tabs and/or chords for the guitar players amongst us. I've attached the file as a Word document and hopefully it will work. I chose this..........not because of the Michael Jackson version but because there are one or two better versions out there. My particular favourite is by Clive Gregson. Not too easy to come by but if anyone wants a copy, I'll be happy to send it. Anyways it was written by Tom Bahler and for my money one of the best modern day ballads written since J & P were doing it for fun. Look forward to other contributions. chris5264
I spent the 80s trying to figure out eruption, spanish fly and solo to Mr Crowley. Seems kind of funny now, but when I pick up a guitar it is still the stuff I’m into. Perhaps I'll give this a try just for a change.
Everythingape
Great idea jonthebuoy! I have my favourites jotted down by hand as I play them in my own special, and wrong, way.. But there's a song I always come back to: The River.. I guess anyone who likes it, plays it already, but it's my first contribution. Don't know about the timing in this chord chart, but it's an easy way of playing it, so I can do it well even when I'm drunk 4 am, and the girls gather 'round.. -toot- The_River.doc

Yeah the timings of the chord changes are a wee bit premature but hey after a few bars you've got it sussed. Even this soon this tells me that this could be one awesome thread. Many thanks ape. jonthebhoy
Just to keep the ball rolling, here's one written by an Englishman and an Aussie. Strange collaboration indeed. Anyways.......it's called 'Persuasion' - Richard Thompson and Tim Finn. Capo at the second. JTBPersuasion_in_B.doc
oswald
Oh no. Gotta drag the axe out. The Boss rocks! Anyone have any comments on "The ghost of Tom Joad"? Awesome album. "Youngstown" is a killer song and would probably be a fun one to learn to play!

fotoman
All time Number 1 guitar song ever - not based on van halen skill or or rush innovation or dream theater/ yes technique or even clapton rocking but my number one favorite song to play - goes to one of the best song writers of all time --- The Wind Cries Mary - Hendrix. Its a perfect song.

SubFrog
I'm the king of rhythm guitar, but I really suck at lead...I can play some Randy Rhodes solos, but that's just because I practiced them for years when I was younger. jonthebhoy
Aye wee Katie has certainly done well for herself lately. Born in Edinburgh and brought up in St. Andrews, where I'm off to at the weekend. Let's keep this thread populated with some good toons folks. "The Clap" Bob? You do like a challenge. Takes me back to 1976ish when Yes were touring here. My mate and I bunked off school one day and hung around Glasgow Apollo, where Yes were playing that night. We managed to meet the guys in the afternoon as they were going into the venue for their sound check and Steve Howe invited us in (much to the displeasure of the venue management). Anyways, he asked us if there was anything we'd like to hear during the soundcheck and yes you've got it, we asked for The Clap. He duly obliged. When I sit back and think about it......it's pretty awesome.......Steve Howe played The Clap for me and my mate (and maybe a few of the sound crew as well I suppose). Wow! 2005SUBMARINER
Man, I have been slacking! Yowza this is a great thread! Okay let's see what do I like playing? It's gotta be tricky and it's gotta be a challenge and it's got to be acoustic. Some of my favorites are, in no particular order, Mood for a Day - S. Howe The Clap - S. Howe Bouree - JS Bach, not Tull Heal Over - KT Tunstall Black Horse and a Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall Dream a little dream - Mamas and Papas Say I Love You in a Song - Croce Bluebird - Buffalo Springfield Smellin' Coffee - Chris Rice Stuff like that. And here are some pics of my babies. First up is a Guild D70. There are like 400 of these in the world, mine was hand built by Hans Moust, one of the original founders of Guild. Next is this lovely Guild F50 jumbo, curly tiger maple sides and back. I got this one in a HEATED auction, lots of people throwing BIG money around. At the end it was mine and then I found out what the big deal was... people had no absolute proof but there was a lot of strong supposition that this had been Clapton's guitar, hence the price. This baby ROCKS. I have yet to find its limits in live performance. man thats 1 sweet acoustic ! must sound sweet !
