Mikey2008 Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Hi Guys, I'm going to waterproof my UPO whilst I have it decased. I know how to seal the following: 1) epoxy the HEV value 2) glue sapphire crystal 3) silicon grease the caseback o-ring How does one go about sealing the Crown? there doesn't seem to be a gasket in the crown-tube and there's nothing inside the crown. Do I just apply some silicon grease on the threading and let friction do its thing? I'd appreciate the advice from people that have waterproof their watches. thx
txcollector Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 there should be an o-ring inside the crown if I'm not mistaken.
arniezac Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 While you've got everything out of the case, why don't you go for a Gen tube and crown. Relatively cheap and easy to do and its been designed by Omega to do just that, seal.

arniezac Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Can you please recommend a source ....other than AD/Omega? Got mine from www.cousinsuk.com and there is Ofrei too.
txcollector Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Be sure to read about replacing the tube. It's not a very simple task.
Mikey2008 Posted July 24, 2010 Author Report Posted July 24, 2010 I just had my watch DLC coated, so gen crown and tube is not an option now. I'll probably get a spare gen crown coated next time round.
nikki6 Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Holy crap M, I didn't know you had one DLC'd!?! NICE!!! That will be one badass UPO man, nice work indeed!! Sixx
FxrAndy Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 good looking! There is no need to glue things as long as the orings and seals are lubed and in good condition and the crystal is pressed in correctly
Mikey2008 Posted August 5, 2010 Author Report Posted August 5, 2010 Guys, some pics of my UPO (partially completed). I destroyed the crystal tension ring and have ordered a few from CousinsUK. Item will be with me in 2 weeks as its on back order. *The crystal loose and bezel will be glued after i press the crystal.
wimpie007 Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Looks very nice though i think with the DLC-ing of the case that a Orange bezel would look much nicer (read:pop) but that just me. And it's not glued yet so give it some thought ;-)
Mikey2008 Posted August 5, 2010 Author Report Posted August 5, 2010 Wimpie, I'm going to get myself a 'narikaa po' when he next has them in stock and will do a orange bezel version using black zinc. The guy that does the coating tells me black zinc is pretty durable. I guess it will be like a PVD finish but at 1/3 of the cost.
Rolexman Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Most PO have 1 seal in the crown and 1 in the tube. You can clearly see the rubber o-ring. If you can't see them they ain't there . You don't glue the crystal but solely use the tension ring. Know that not the grease makes a watch water proof but the margins and tolerances of the different parts fitted together. Better have it checked for leaks before letting it come in contact with water.
Mikey2008 Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) got the Gen tension rings' from cousinsuk. *pic attached so you get a better understanding of the product. Its pretty rigid. crystal is pressed down and the ring will keep it in place and keep moisture out. I tried glue and it doesn't work. May aswell do it properly!! Edited August 10, 2010 by Mikey2008
ianGP Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 oh hello....didn't see that one when I swapped my crystal... i'm gonna source it through ofrei!
watcher Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 I've just got one of these from Cousins, not sure why they chose green though!
ianGP Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 yeah.... now i'm curious...does the green show on the rehaut?
chris714n Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 How did you go with the waterproofing?
