Mickey Padge Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 First and foremost, a big thanks to our resident watch guru Domi for all his patience and help with me and this watch, this piece wouldn't exist without him! This is an old school, thick case backed ETA2893 based PAM029, I believe from Eddie Lee originally. I have it mounted on a beautifully soft genuine great white shark strap. I've had a finepics date wheel installed, a 6mm one piece DSN crystal, and a T48 crown. The dial and hands are superlumed too (by finepics?). The crown guard is superb, if they could still be replicated like this, all our auto PAM's would be near perfect! Enough chat, here are some pictures, click to expand: I am so pleased with how this turned out, I don't think there is anything left to tweak or change, maybe I could give the case a nice polish, but aside from that, it's done! As I mentioned before, the crown guard is the best I have ever seen, matching the cases curvature perfectly, nice and thick too. Why there are so many aftermarket old style CG's is beyond me, we need an auto CG to be made just like this one! I tried it on a genuine OEM rubber strap, but strangely because the lugs were long enough for the strap to move freely (unlike DSN's cases), it didn't sit well on my smaller wrist, whereas DSN's cases/lugs would hold the rubber strap firmly, at an angle, to produce a better fit for me. However, the shark strap is awesome, so no loss there What do you guys think, yay, or nay!?
Mickey Padge Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Here is a picture of my case back, it is thick and heavy, numbered B076/500
panerai153 Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 That is a great watch. I believe the old school Eddie Lee's are the best around.Too bad he's gone and those are scarce as hen's teeth!! I had one of these as well as an 063 with the 2893-2 movements, sold both, and unfortunately, not very long afterward the 2893-2's became unavailable and the rest is history. The mods you did make this one as close to the genuine that you can have. And it's got the same motor as the genuine.
Mickey Padge Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Thanks panerai153, these are definitely rare, I wonder how many of the 2893 old school reps were actually made? Could be a similar run to the gen! Anyone have some pictures of their old school 29/63 with a chief cyclops or similar please? I want to see how the DSN crystal stacks up, but can't find any pictures..... Cheers!
w0lf Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Mickey, This is not Eddie Lee, it's a Honpo which is as good if not better. They came with <100 individual serials and amazingly good caseset and dial. Enjoy, it's a keeper for sure!
seafoam Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Mickey. That is almost as nice as your old DSN 27a. Just kidding. beautiful watch. Love that date wheel
btocamelo Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 yep....Honpo...EL had higher S/N 300/500 and 500/500
Mickey Padge Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Ah you live an learn, thanks for the info guys! So this is a Honpo PAM029, so who is he then, not a name I remember really!?
jitai Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Nice one mic. Below are some pics of my PAM63 with chief's cyclop and lello's DW that had found its new owner
Mickey Padge Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Thanks very much indeed jitai, it looks to me like DSN's crystal is producing the same magnification, no need to fret over it for me!
Mickey Padge Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Any chance of a price check please? I've had a few PM's and would like to know what I should be looking for price wise, in case I decide to sell. I have seen these fetch a fair bit before, when fully upgraded like this one.... Cheers!
Mickey Padge Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 How could I forget a lume shot! Here you go, I am slowly getting better at taking these Untouched shots, aside from a crop and re-size...... Cheers!
TK471 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Totally bad ass. What a rare beast. And I must say, your date font and cyclops are outstanding. What a great piece, as usual!!
Mickey Padge Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Thanks TK471, the DSN crystal was a great fit, perfect in fact, and I like the crispness of the one piece crystal over DSN's other styles, where the cyclops is sometimes a little messy round the edges
ahchard Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 My EL 029 has S/N 100/500... modded with watchmen cyclops, finepics datewheel, jimmyfu CG, Gen Crown, The Zigmeister lumed/serviced... at the moment my last rep as I have sold off all the others... and I dont think I will ever sell it...

Sounds really sweet, care to share some pictures please? I am torn between head and heart, to sell or keep
siesta181 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Here's mine, EL 029B, chief cyclops, T48 crown, A series CG, The Zigmeister lumed, B222/500. This rep is top of my list. I would set a price of USD1.8k, high but i don't want to sell it.... yet. Shouldn't go below 1.5k in my humble opinion. Cheers S181
Mickey Padge Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Thanks very much for sharing, that is one sweet looking watch too! What date wheel is that?
