TswissT
A friend just donated to my watch collection...A VERY old 1005 Oyster Perpetual Model... Needless to say; I am not ecstatic about the watch itself, so I cracked open the case to find this wonderful cal 1560 inside...Nice butterfly rotor!!! After some searching, it seems that this is the movement sometimes used in the genuine 5512 and 5514 series... NOW WE ARE TALKING!!! So; now I am actively hunting for case/dial/hand options for this movement. - Is the Cal 1560 the same size as the 1520-1580? - What about hand compatibility? Anyone who may be able to lead me in the right direction? I would appreciate it. pics:

Justasgood
Do a search and you will find the 5512 Gilt I built using the 1560 out of an Oyster Perpetual from 1963. I used an NDT case and a gilt handset that Zig lumed along with the dial. Nice original piecw as is.

TswissT
Thanks for the post...I have already emailed Phong and Yuki...Just awaiting the reply... I am thinking along the same lines as yours JustasGood. Except maybe a matte dial instead of Gilt.
preacher62
It's kinda a shame not to preserve the oyster. That watch would be close to my grail watch. It is stunning.
danolectro
I agree with Preacher. Shame to destroy a decent vintage Rolex. Why not sell it, and buy the bits with the proceeds? Looks like the asking price for a gold 1005 on Fleabay is $2000 and up. Edited August 14, 2010 by danolectro
