ubiquitous Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Well, the 703 was an improved Triplock as it had the exterior gasket on the tube. But 702 and 703 both have 2 gaskets inside the tube whereas the 700 only has 1.

Most of us look for the older style tube/crown for authenticity of a project, when looking at older models, but if you were to take it to a service center, they will slap in a modern crown and tube unless told otherwise. I cannot wait to find a decent 700 tube and crown for a project. Not better than new, but looks the part and it IS the part. E

Live and learn. Same here, and the stem part of the crown is so corroded on most of these, that to take them apart makes them self implode. You end up with a pretty crown that cannot be used. E

Ephry73 Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I think 702 into 700 is easier/plausible. 700 into 702, not so much. The main reasoning to trim down a 702 tube(sacrilege anyone?) is perhaps to have the two o-rings in the tube, as opposed to one. E
