116610 Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 What are people using to open the back of their DSSD? I just got my rep in the mail and I've been trying for 2 hours to get the caseback off. I've tried the sticky ball method and the scissor method no go. Won't budge AT ALL.
plaifender Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 caseback wrench die for this watch is expensive.. orb ball is 4 bucks on ebaygranted.. if it's REALLY on tight... the casebackk die is the most adequate option
mrboombasteke Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 HORB ball!! works every time +1 Have never had problems using this ball on any of my case backs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
prdubis Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Not sure the sticky ball will work on the DSSD because of the two-piece-caseback...
plaifender Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Not sure the sticky ball will work on the DSSD because of the two-piece-caseback... The duct tape sticky ball is not as effective as the Horb Rubber ball opener.. but can be done as long as the sticky ball you make is as big as the outer ring of the case back. I had a hard time with the sticky ball and ended up getting an Horb and use it to open all my screw down casebacks now.
mastrmindalliance Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Not sure the sticky ball will work on the DSSD because of the two-piece-caseback... Could try letting some air out. For the dssd i originally used a glass jar opener - which is circular piece of rubber about 2mm thick - looks like a circular rubber drink coaster and can be bought from kitchen shop/dept stores etc. Laying it flat over the back, and gripping/turning the ring with thumb and side of forefinger very grippy
sugaray1 Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 try the sticky ball but put pressure on the outside instead of the middle...worked for me
jmb Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 I tried all of the usual methods to get the back off my V5 and finally had to get a wrench from watchbitz...
Jkay Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 The grey center piece of the DSSD case back is not the part you need to turn. It's the outer silver ring. Trying to spin the center while the outside is tight will only tear the gasket.
116610 Posted June 29, 2011 Author Report Posted June 29, 2011 This seems to be a decent deal, what do you guys think? DSSD Opener
plaifender Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 This seems to be a decent deal, what do you guys think? DSSD Opener I guess.. Just realize.. that it can only be used to open your DSSD..
Jkay Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 If you are going to use a professional case back die and t-handle then you might as well also purchase a case clamp! It screws down permanently to a work table and holds the case tightly in soft brass fingers so it can not move while you are using the handle and die. Watchbitz Case Clamp
rosso832 Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Check on 1:07 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vrBUjAoAaM Did not try myself!
Jkay Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 That is an awesome way to gouge the everloving snot out of your case.
FxrAndy Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 and they are profesionals????????????????????????????
116610 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 I've used this method lots of times after seeing this video. Works on my 116610 not on my new 116660 . I used leather gloves braced myself and torqued soooooo hard with the scissors that the blades were bending. No use didn't budge... I think there is something wrong glued. Cross threaded welded?
plaifender Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Brave man.. one slip and you slice your finger.. or worse... your case!!!
