mastergod Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Hi all, assuming Rolex developed a "Space-Dweller II" prototype in the late 1970's, this project was about imagining what it could've looked like. Build list: 1. Case: Old 1655 from Andrew. CGs shaved by me, lugs drilled by me. Bead-blasted with fine granulate corundum by Rolli. Waterproofed by Domi. 2. Crown: 8mm Brevet from DSN installed by Domi by application of the fascinating "freeze case/bake tube" technique. Blasted by Rolli. 3. Dial: SpD dial from Ingod44 at the bay. Relumed (SL mix) by Domi in vintage-style puffy hand-painted coats. 4. Secs hand: Omega Flightmaster chrono hand from Ofrei. Lumed in its entity by Domi (orange SL). 5. Hrs, mins: Relumed by Domi (SL mix), from Ofrei 6. GMT hand: Domi-lumed (SL mix) Seamaster JEDI date hand, from Ofrei. Fluorescent orange was considered, however it would visually compete with the secs hand. 7. Strap: James Bond Nato chosen to color-match case/dial. 8. Lugbars from ebay. Sorry don't recall the details. Will be upgraded. 9. Crystal: Clarks superdome. As the pics testify there's lots of distortion but that's only a problem on pics. 10. Movement: 2836-2 GMT bought from RWG some years ago. Will likely upgrade it later. Onto the pics: It's fair to say that this would be impossible without RWG. The watch is very grateful to Rolli, Rosnik, TeeJay, Dudemeister, Southcoast68, Gavidoc, Simon, Jkay, LHOOQ and Domi for advice, aid or work. mg
StormTooper4 Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Sterling effort and idea. Love the advert that's pure gold. nice one. ST4
TeeJay Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Absolutely love it :tu: And as for the advert... :good:
Ronin Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Very cool. The GMT hand you choose works well, I am on the fence about the seconds hand... I wonder how 5517 Sword Hands would pair?
lhooq Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Beautiful execution of an off-the-wall concept, MG. I heard she'll time the Kessel run within COSC standards! (Sweet... I'm in the credits!)
