ebzen02 Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 I just received this today and as soon as I got home I started tinkering with the damn beauty.. I thought I might trim down the cg and crown.. Further mods will include a relume or perhaps an ingod dial.. I will also change the hands to something a bit more accurate.. I know that I will blow my budget soon With EMM permission I will post a pic of the before and after.. only thing that has changed is the trimming of the CG and crown.. I also polished the case (I like the shinning case look).. I will trim the crown a bit more.. Any suggestions regarding the cg? Before (CG/Crown) After (trimmed CG and stock Crown) Thoughts.. (might trim the crown just a tad more)..
alligoat Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 Other than a little bit of sanding/rounding over/polishing on the inside edge of the bottom cg, you've gone as far as you want to go on the cg's. But you need to consider a gen crown (and tube). Here's a gen w/ the 703 crown- notice how it's flatter and wider Once you get a gen crown on there, you can revisit the cg's if need be.
ebzen02 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Report Posted August 18, 2011 Isn't the gen 703 crown 7mm like the rep? I think it is a bit thinner for sure but not wider .. But, I am a noob when it comes to vintage rolex:) Ideally, I'd like a 703, but for now I can modify the rep crown. I think if I thin the crown a bit more I can sqeeze by..
woof* Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 The gen crown is the first mod I do on my watches. Not only does it look better, it feels better! Second thing for me is a gen crystal or Clark at minimum. That's a huge improvement. No comparison between a gen crystal and rep in clarity. Great looking watch you have!
ubiquitous Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 ebzen- I might have a 703 here that you can have. I'll check and see...
ebzen02 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Report Posted August 18, 2011 Let me knoiw ubi.. I am in no rush to buy, but at some point the rep crown will drive me insane Btw, the watch came with a clark xtal. That will be the last thing I will change. Next will be a change of hands and a relume. The dial is very nice for a rep imo.
Ephry73 Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 That is exactly what I'm getting next week. I have similar mods in the works for it. I wanted to get a 700 crown and tube for it though. Any thoughts? Good job on the CGs. E
ubiquitous Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 Let me knoiw ubi.. I am in no rush to buy, but at some point the rep crown will drive me insane Who said anything about buying? Zip me your address...
ebzen02 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Report Posted August 18, 2011 I can't drive, type, jump, and scream at the same time. Are you serious?!
ebzen02 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Report Posted August 18, 2011 Wow! This watch has now taken on a new meaning! Thank You Ubi!
donerix Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 Looking good, And Ebzen is a guy that deserves it. Well done Ubi.
ebzen02 Posted August 19, 2011 Author Report Posted August 19, 2011 Thanks E! BTW.. I did my first dial lume..lol! It is not as bad as I thought.. Was going to send it to marty, but then I thought.. heck it is a vintage watch, why not experiment.. Either way, I will at some point go for an engod44(ingod?) dial.. Gen look alike
dutchguy2 Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 Not bad at all. Is it lume or just paint?
ebzen02 Posted August 19, 2011 Author Report Posted August 19, 2011 Not bad at all. Is it lume or just paint? Mix of vintage lume powder, acrylic Golden paints, and matte acrylic medium.. The lume is faint (but glows) and uneven when charged (intentional)-- I will take a pic later today..
