This one is a little disappointing.

Just received my fourth rep., a black Skyland Avenger. I like the watch but .....

I really can't complain, it was a cheap one and I didn't have high expectations but still ....

It looks reasonably OK at first glance and probably nothing too obviously wrong with it to the average person but it has some annoying "features".

The bezel works more or less as it should but it is loose. I recall reading a thread about somebody who fixed a Navitimer bezel with some dental floss, must try and find that again.

The crown is very dicky to use for adjusting time and date. It works, but feels loose and requires a bit of fiddling to get it locked and unlocked properly. I'm suspecting stripped threads or something like that.

The stopwatch buttons work but just don't feel right. The stop/start one doesn't click when you press it, it sort of just needs a bit of pressure. The reset does click but it feels sort of "gritty".

Most annoyingly it looks like it loses about 5 minutes in 12 hours.

Yes, I could send it back but I'm not going to, not really worth the shipping charges. Instead, this is my plan. I'm going to use this one to practice on with my fancy toolkit I recently got. Maybe I can fix something, maybe I'll bugger it completely. Don't really want to wear it the way it is so it can be my practice test bed. Also, now that I have seen, more or less, what it is like, as far as looks and size and so on go, I know that I like the watch so when a friend of mine goes over that way soon he can have a look at a few and pick one that seems in better condition.

All part of the fun of reps. :)

What is too bad is that there is a well-done rep of that particular watch with a proper 7750 movement. But of course it is more expensive. I also have never heard of a quartz movement being that far off. If you did just get it and actually really like the watch on the wrist (and have the budget) you might consider asking the dealer to send it back to get the better version as long as you are shipping it back.

I'm not normally one to advocate sending a watch back for the more niggling flaws, but this sounds like it has enough niggling flaws to render it unwearable, so it is definitely in need of sending back. My Heritage has a quartz movement, at it's time keeping is near +/-0 per day. Same goes for the movement of my plastic submariner, which cost me £15, and was probably not even worth £5, but the thing still keeps bang-on time, so while I understand that quartz isn't for everyone (I've even had my own rants about quartz in the past) I must say now, that in all honesty, a quartz movement can be perfectly acceptable (depending on user requirements) and for it to lose time like that, well, that's just unacceptable IMHO :pardon:

OK folks, false alarm, it was my fault. I think this is what happened. Because the crown is a little dicky I possibly didn't get it fasted right before I took the watch off for the night. In taking it off I may have bumped the time and not noticed it. When I woke up I saw it was five minutes out and jumped to conclusions.

It has been going for 24 hours now and the time seems pretty much right on.

The other faults, dodgy feeling buttons, dicky crown and loose bezel are annoying but not enough to send it back. Since it was just a cheapy I'm going to keep it to practice my watch fixing skills on. Well, develop some watch fixing skills. If I bugger it completely, no big deal and maybe it will be good for some spare parts or something.

On the up side, it has let me see if I like this particular watch, which I do. A friend is going over that way soon and he will personally pick out a good one for me.

One thing on the chrono button that doesn't click.

Being quartz the button will just be pushing a contact, it will only click if it is deliberately made to click.

Ken

Strange thing is, one clicks, the other doesn't. I may open it up and see if I can see what's going on in there. Maybe I can't fix/change anything but it will be interesting anyway.
