Timepiece
Here are some pics of my Porto with a beautiful black alligator strap. I took the first picture in the exact 'pose' as on the IWC website. Can you tell the difference? (Some of you will complain about my white balance, ok, some day I will master the PS CS2...) Gen IWC My Porto Thanks for watching!
Guest avitt
Very nice. I also put a black alligator on mine. But I've since decided that the tan strap is a better match for the gold hands/light dial.
Pugwash
Can you tell the difference? The only easy (and it's not that easy really) way of spotting the rep/gen is the shape of the numbers. They're less rounded on the gen. More rugby-shaped than football-shaped. doug
I'm with avitt. Did the same thing: put a black croc strap on the watch because that's how the gens com, but decided that, as he says, the dark tan leather strap better complements the off white face and gold numerals. Golfman
The others differences are : - engraving on adjust button (IWC marking) - center off the caseback is brushed and not polished - the thickness off the bezel is little bit thin on the gen - i'm not sure but the IWC marking on dial semms to be little bit big on gen (1/10 mm)
thomasng
"IWC" logo looks wrong on the rep. It's a dead giveaway to me.

qwert750
If we really want to get picky, one thing I've always noticed is the difference in how the "6" is cut off by the seconds dial. The circular part of the 6 the gen is cut off slightly...

qwert750
I did say it was really picky... I probably wouldn't have posted, but I wanted to test Pugwash's tutorial on how to post a pic. I have my first rep en route and wanted to be sure I could post a pic once it arrives. Of course, I'll also be trying his photography lesson as well - already downloaded Picasa and have played with it a bit. Thanks Pugwash (yes the noobs do read the tips on this board)... bkdc
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the chrono pushers are not in a straight line with the crown on the gen. The buttons are in the same plane on the rep. This is a dead giveaway.
robertk
Wow! so many "dead" giveaways. You guys must walk around with a jewelers loop attached to your eye!
HauteHippie
Chrono pushers stick out too far on the rep.
Pugwash
a jewelers loop Loupe, please. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loupe There are a few watches that certain people will spot from a mile away as reps. For me, it's the 45mm Planet Ocean, the GST Chrono and possibly the Rolex Sub. Some people, however, will have this one as their choice.

The buttons are in the same plane on the rep. This is a dead giveaway. Please note that I pulled out the crown for this particular pic to 'freeze' the hands' positions. In addition to the comment by Puggy: this (Trusty) watch is also one of my wristtime favourites! My next project must be a bit more tough looking chrono. I love the reduced moon watch and Tag Link Chrono but maybe some of you can give me some other options (The dial/case size must be under 42mm.) By the way this rep is an amazing rep, one off my favorite. I waer it between 3 and 5 days a week. each time i spoke with a watch lover, he always congrat me about it. Only people who wear rep coudlt see it's a rep !!! @bkdc : what are you doing here my friend. You really need to wear gen if you don't accept any bug
speedy1
Does the rep have AR coating? My father in laws gen has heavy AR front and back of the crystal.
Timepiece
Does the rep have AR coating? My father in laws gen has heavy AR front and back of the crystal. My Trusty has no AR. I have seen a gen up close, but never noticed the AR. I think AR shows a lot more with black dials.
