letter Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 Unfortunately, I do not have a clue about Ladies Datejusts A friend has bought this...it looks 'off' to me.. Anyone able to give me a lowdown on this? Meant to be from 1990 Thanks
freddy333 Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 All Rolexes with 'jewels' look fake to me. Because Rolex only uses quality stones, a gemologist could tell you for sure.
kbh Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 Damn, that's one ugly watch. Nothing close to real about that one.
letter Posted November 14, 2011 Author Report Posted November 14, 2011 Picture is not the best to be honest, will try to get more. Does look fake as you say.. She was told they were real diamonds..price was approx €2700
letter Posted November 14, 2011 Author Report Posted November 14, 2011 Damn, that's one ugly watch. Nothing close to real about that one. Really? What are the tells?
TeeJay Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 Really? What are the tells? As kbh said, there is literally nothing close to correct on it. Even the shape of the hands and bracelet links look 'not quite right'... If it was a custom aftermarket dial (which do sadly exist) it would've cost ten/twenty times more than the price quoted...
danielv2000 Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 The Rolex logo looks off on the dial. The date wheel looks crooked... That's a lot of bling.
letter Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 If it hadn't come from a semi reputable dealer I would agree 100% that it is a fake. Hopefully when I get some better pics, they will help...
kbh Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 Even the bracelet looks all wrong. The links are too long and too flat, unless it's just terribly stretched and the picture makes it look off. On every DJ I've seen the "Datejust" is on the top of the dial right below the Rolex. And the "Superlative chronometer", etc. on the bottom. Could be real with aftermarket bling added, who knows. I still thinks that's a very ugly dial personally. Looking through Google images I did see a couple of similar looking dials but they were all on reps.

letter Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 Is there anything definite from my pic which suggests its 100% not genuine?
ammandel Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 The bracelet REALLY doesn't look right on this one.. I guess it could just be the light?
freddy333 Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 It could be the pic, but the date is not centered in the window, ROLEX does not appear to be centered relative to the coronet (which looks odd), the bracelet looks aftermarket, etc. And, although I am no expert, the diamonds lack the sparkle of the real thing.
letter Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 thanks all - I think better pics are needed
kbh Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 Since apparently they do make that type of dial, the only way is too open the back and take a look inside.
P4GTR Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 the springbars are sticking out from the lugs ffs. The whole shape in general just looks wrong.
preacher62 Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 They do make that sort of dial, but they do not make hands like that. They are short and stubby looking, not long and graceful like a gen Lady DJ. As Freddy said, the "Rolex" and "Datejust" appear to be off kilter and the font doesn't look like the pic kbh posted.
sugaray1 Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 The band looks "off" and the date cyclops
TeeJay Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 And the magnigication of the cyclops is off, and the case lugs are sans diamonds, where the pic kbh loaded shows diamond inset into the lugs. I stand by my previous comment that nothing on the watch looks right. The source is irrelevant, they could easily have taken in a rep in error. The price also, as mentioned, does not seem right. I recently saw the identical gen of my DJ for sale pre-owned in a jewellers, and that was priced at over £2000
cjjoyce1 Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 The bracelet REALLY doesn't look right on this one.. I guess it could just be the light? Nope, not the light. Look closely at the bottom left. The end link isn't fit right, it's actually jutting out and over the lug. Also, you can see the end of the spring bar pin peeking out from the lug and from both of the top lugs. I know the bands and end links on the lady's DJ's are kind of wacky, but this really looks aftermarket/rep to me. I agree with KBH. You have to crack the back
indyberetta Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Looks like an Ebay special...aftermarket dial, bracelet, and custom bezel. Look on the back case to make sure it has the Rolex case writing like ladies models do for this model. I would pop case back off for sure on this one. The case and movement are probably the only gen parts.
