Nanuq
The Long Dark is near the midpoint. Here in Alaska it's been getting darker and darker, but tonight marks Winter Solstice. After 8:30PM local time the sun starts to come back and the days start getting longer again. And none too soon! We've had 5 hurricane force storms in the last month and skies are pitch black by 3:00 in the afternoon. That's a whole 'nother kind of exciting. Hang onto your hats, lads...... the Sun is coming back!
redwatch
I cannot imagine how bizarre that must be having such long, long black nights! And 5 hurricane force storms is nothing short of amazing! We had one here in LA/Pasadena a few weeks ago and it was quite something!! Lost 5 trees and a considerable amount of damage was done to our house and my wife's Corvette Convertible (which we finally get to pick up from the shop today )
Nanuq
Last weekend the winds were 120mph at the mountain house, last night they were only 95mph so we caught a break. And it's been warm (above zero) so the wind chills aren't too bad. The one last weekend was tougher, the power went out so I was trying to keep the house from freezing up with oil lanterns. And today?? The sun will come out and the clouds are clearing! It's a new day!

frankt
I've been having to listen to my wife bitching because it's been too warm around here this winter.....It's been low 80's daily, with high 60's night time lows...We moved to Florida 26 years ago from New England, and my wife can only remember how "nice" snow was...SHE didn't have to shovel it, or try to drive to work on I-95 in a driving blizzard..... I can't shut her up!!! How about it Nanuq.....Can I ship her ass up there for a month or so...???

cornerstone
Judging by the wrinkly asses around SW Florida in winter, the process can't be reversed.
