danielv2000 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I'm seriously considering putting in a gen 1570 movement into either a Red Sub or Double Red MBW case. The cost of servicing such a movement always convinced me to stay away but the idea keeps coming back to me. My question is, as the title suggests, who services them? Any "friends of ours" here knowledgeable enough to service gen Rolex movements? Where would they source replacement parts, if needed? Thanks for your input.
Jkay Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 George in Texas and Zigmeister in Canada both are capable of Rolex service
freddy333 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 As long as the watch is fitted with all the usual gen upgrades (crystal, crown/stem) & a good, reasonably accurate dial, most indy gen watchmakers (not a Rolex service center) will service it since few will be able to ID a gen-powered watch as anything other than a gen.
wiesn089 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I'm with Freddy on this one, when you have mostly gen parts (movement, dial, bezel) and good enough engravings you should be good, other than RSC no one will notice it's a franken (it's practically the genuine article anyway).
danielv2000 Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Me. Good to know! I was actually planning on sending you a pm after I read your checking-in thread!

danielv2000 Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Good to know! I've been watching some 1570's on the Bay. Alternatively, I'm thinking of buying a Datejust with a 1570 and swapping out the movement and put in an eta in the DJ.
Star69 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 the only problem are the parts even with my Tudor - its a pain in the ass to find the correct date-wheel ... cheers, Frank
alligoat Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 You're better off with a 1500 Date than a Datejust. Something about the top movement ring on a 1600 DJ not being conducive to a 1680 build. Probably has to do w/ the pie-pan dial on the 1600 DJs

Probably has to do w/ the pie-pan dial on the 1600 DJs Thanks. I will definitely keep that in mind. I would have imagined that the movement is the same no matter the watch!
