New rep of the IWC ingeniuer vintage re-release.

Just see now a new rep on pc of the iwc ingenieur vintage, the gen is quite thick and this is thinner, actually better in that regard. Dial looks good, dw looks awful but is correctable (somewhat). Closed caseback. No superrep but all in all could be a nice dressy rep. Who wants to be the guinea pig to try one first? :D

Why would you say that? ....Is it that bad? The black doesn't look horrendous?

They normally test the waters with these first reps and if they sell well then produce a higher quality version...I would pass on these particular ones.

Yep dw is horrific, they want a bit too much for it mike, $278, swiss 2824 but there should be an a2824 about sometime aswell. If the case and the dial are ok it might be worth a chance at getting it cheaper and do some work to it. DW is a big issue. Not sure if there will be too many future iterations of this watch, don't think its too popular.

Edit: actually it's listed as a 2824 asian, which is priced far too high in that case:

$278 and it only has a clone movement?!

Yep, bit too pricy, at first I thought it must be a mistake and it has a a2892 which would put it in line with the iwc mark/portofino prices, but it does seem to be an a2824, will see what other dealer offer it for. Hard to find a dw for it, but the one in it has to go.

The dial and case look nice even though the gen case is much thicker, crown is off aswell, all in all it's not going to be a super rep, just the potential to be a nice dressy watch:

They might as well take the lettering away from the dial because it's not a great replication of the genuine piece. Knowing what rep factories have been able to produce relatively recently, it's a shame and waste to spend that much for that rep.

Might as well get the non-chrono Portofino which is a much much better rep.

Yeah the portofino is a much better rep, it's a shame because this ingeniuer is a lovely watch, nicer balance of semi casual/dressy, whereas the portofino (to me anyway) is strictly a dress watch. I'd still pick this up for under $200 in spite of the flaws just to have a look at it. A similar looking style is the classic pp calatrava 5127 (although the PP is a little more dressy/polished) but there are no good reps of that either :(.

Why are there never decent reps of the simple 2 and 3 hand dress watches? The factories put all their time into these complex pieces like that new JLC with the plastic bracelet, but they can't be bothered to properly replicate a Calatrava?

I totally agree, such a shame, the lack of really good simple classic dress watches in the rep business is appalling!

A dress watch will never sell as much as a sports watch. That's the only reason they won't rep them properly.

I'd love to get something like the Piaget Altiplano 43 w/ the rep PP microrotor movement but it won't be done.

Name an immensely popular and profitable 2/3 hand, closed caseback dress watch...?

They are very few and far between.

The only dress watch that I know of in the pipeline is the 41mm AP Royal Oak. But technically even that is a sports watch.

The new retro Ingeniuer is rumored, but I hope its picked up by the NF rather than the small maker that's version was just released.

Battler, the APRO rumor, where did you hear that? In the RG thread I started Angus mentioned he would get on the N factory about it, and he sounded confident that the N fact would be interested, but that's about as far as the rumor goes afaik.

Yes I also saw that Angus chimed in but the AP RO 41mm Is almost surely in the pipeline. Why? AP is arguably the hottest Gen brand right now and the RO and ROO reps are excellent sellers.

The gen is a 2 hand, low beat (!). They can and should stick a 21j in it and the closed caseback. If a casino or a bookie asked me to put odds on it, I'd say 2:1.

Yep according to Angus the good quality rep of this is very close, thought I'd never see it tbh but will hold out and see how good it is.....shouldn't be too hard to hold out looking at the release here. ;)

I do agree that the obvious sports watches are the big sellers but I do think times are a changin' and there is quite a demand for certain basic dressy watches. There's only so much PAM and Hublot they can cash in on without expanding a little. A good quality calatrava or JLC master control or AP jules would be a reasonable seller for them these days I'd imagine. Of course movements and fits are always an issue but it would be interesting to see some effort put in. Just look at the sales of PP dress chronos and lange datographs to get an example (I know they are chronos) but seeing as they are obscure brands to most anyway the factories have done quite well from recent releases.
