sgtguk Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 I've been on the forum for nearly a year now and I thought it was about time I did my first watch review! I haven't seen a review on this piece as yet so here goes, be gentle with me....... So about 6 months ago I was looking in the sales section and saw one of the Ocean 1's for sale and liked the look of it, had a quick search on the net and picked out the Ocean Vintage Gmt as one to add to the wish list. At the time I had a few watches on order so didn't get it straightaway and whenever I checked back on their website it was on back order So couple weeks ago I checked again and it was available so ordered it and it came last week lol it's amazing how quickly grown men become small children again when we are confronted by a package containing a new piece! I'm really impressed with the quality of the watch, the bracelet is really comfy to wear not to heavy and has a decent double clasp, fit and finish is excellent and the Lume glows like a torch, for the price of a decent rep it feels really well engineered has a great movement and I hope will last me a few years too! Some pics for you.... And lastly the obligatory wristie Specs ETA 2893-2 Swiss Made, automatic, hacking seconds, 21 Jewels hour and minute hand with Super Luminova C3 Case: stainless steel Back: Stainless steel screwed , engraved.. Diameter: 42 mm, without crown height: ca 14,0 mm Weight: 190 g Dial: black Crystal: Sapphire domed, with double anti-reflecting coatings on the interior side Bezel: Stainless steel.. Indices: Super Luminova C3 Lug width: 22 mm (0.87 inches) WaterRes: 300 metres/990 feet 30 ATM Strap: stainless steel 22mm (0.87 inches), screwed Buckle: stainless steel, safety clasp
panerai153 Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 Well, for one thing, it's got a 2893 movement, which is a purpose built GMT movement. Steinhart makes a pretty decent watch at that price point. Nice homage to the Rolex Explorer. MKII has produced one like this one as well, however Ii believe that it's around 41-42mm so bigger than the Expolrer. Nice watch hope you enjoy it.
chrgod Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 Thanks for the review! I like how they have developed the design. Especially the nice caseback, which looks a bit like the Tissot Seastar/ Seatouch.
sgtguk Posted June 26, 2012 Author Report Posted June 26, 2012 Thanks guys, I think it's great value for money the watch feels really well made
Utheman Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 Nice review and great photos! Any problems with the algnment/synchronization of the GMT hand?
sgtguk Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks U, and yes the Gmt hand aligns perfectly
dvn Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Very nice priced watch with ETA 2893-2 Swiss Made, automatic, hacking seconds Jewels: 21 jewels It funny how they copied almost every rolex that come out on the market. Check these out: 1. GMT C 116710: http://www.steinhart...-1-BLACK,2.html 2. Sub C: http://www.steinhart...1-BLACK,14.html 3.Almost like the SDDS: http://www.steinhart...-BLACK,382.html 4. Sub LV http://www.steinhart...1-GREEN,15.html
sgtguk Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 They are certainly a homage brand dvn quality is superb too! Did you have a look at the other pieces they do too?
Vinguru Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 Agreed, Steinhart does make nice homage watches. I used to own a vintage red sub with plexi crystal which I loved. Then I saw a nice franken 1680 and been wearing that one ever since! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Mike on a bike Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 sgt I checked out their offerings , very impressed.
