This is a project I didn't know I wanted to do until I clicked on this thread. :)

until you realise the crown position cant and never will be correct... where is your god now? :D

This sucks... but I could probably live with it.

i could be mistaken but I think that is a double red case back, however, its not wrong if you were to unfortunately have the dial swapped during service. I do believe that is the only caseback you can get atm.

If its a 1977 great white, this transitional year allows pre-GW case backs to be correct, since as everyone knows, Rolex mixes up parts between new and old models during those years.

Yeah the MBW's come with red casebacks so I bought the Yuki great white caseback, already on the watch :)

I'm not a member over at Yuki's shop. What's the cost on those backs?

This is the MBk Reg has sourced me.

Any comments ? Is this the MBK watch all you guys are talking about ?

Is the case back black engraving correct ?

Yep that s the one now let the modding commence

add a set of TC hands, a clarkes crystal

a bit of age , and a slow beat movement and we are talking

I am curious, why TC hands? are his modern hands that close to something that would come from service for a 1665?

I am collecting parts for my 1665 and have a set of sl BK hands to use. are the TC that much better?

and I too am curious about the yuki back...

Mine has Yuki hands, tube and pearl. Gen insert, and crown.

I bought my Yuki caseback from a member here second hand. It's been awhile, Yuki sells them for 180$ and I paid around 120$ for mine. Kinda pricey, but what are you gonna do? :)

thanks for the input guys.

I have the PC 1665 as well...thinking about sending both to the modder to mix parts if they fit.

How about PC case back ?

MBW is the way to go IMHO.

I have mine since 3 years and never had a problem.

It's my go-to-water-watch. Had it out surfing today :)

I'm pretty sure highoey's question was regarding the PC case back engravings (which looks a bit shallow to me). The MBW engraving is fine (once you remove the black paint filling) and as already been said in this thread some of the early GW's came with the DR case back so it's not totally out of line.

oh the PC...now that I zoomed it seems etched to me as well.

It's at home but I'll be away for 15 more days so I'll be able to see it live only upon return.

The MBk couldn't tell because of the black paint.

I ll probably leave the red case back on if that's plausible as you guys say.

How about dial ? needs to be swapped ?

it should be deep like this one i have here, you can see this one is definitely not etched (or filled with black paint :D )

Reg. confirms that it is engraved so it is probably filled with paint...

it is, youll have to soak it for 24hours in acetone then you can peel it out easily with a pin, some of the corners may be hard to remove the paint from still.

Lacquer thinner works very fast for me, I used it on my SSD also. It only takes a couple minutes, but be careful to never get that stuff near a crystal :)
