dieselpower Posted September 7, 2012 Report Posted September 7, 2012 Am looking into all aspects of improving an MBW 5513 and I was wondering about the glass. I know gen is best (obviously) I also know Clarks is best aftermarket option but my question is this - what is the difference between the Clarks T19 and the glass that comes standard on the MBW ie how far off gen is the standard MBW glass?
Nanuq Posted September 7, 2012 Report Posted September 7, 2012 Standard MBW is not too bad, but for peanuts you can get G&S, Sternkreuz or Clarks and make a big improvement. It's well worth it.
dieselpower Posted September 7, 2012 Author Report Posted September 7, 2012 OK. Any preference from the three you mentioned?
freddy333 Posted September 7, 2012 Report Posted September 7, 2012 Ditto Nanuq's comments & I would (&, prior to going gen, did) go with Clarks.
highoeyazmuhudee Posted September 7, 2012 Report Posted September 7, 2012 Clarks is good, a bit tight of a fit
dieselpower Posted September 7, 2012 Author Report Posted September 7, 2012 Clark's it is. Thanks chaps.
Justasgood Posted September 7, 2012 Report Posted September 7, 2012 Clark's it is. Thanks chaps. I'll get you a Gen 25-19. Don't buy anything.....
dieselpower Posted September 8, 2012 Author Report Posted September 8, 2012 @ Justasgood You're putting me in an awkward position here. I really appreciate your offer and if you're saying what I think you're saying then deduct the $ from the other matter. Capiche?
Justasgood Posted September 8, 2012 Report Posted September 8, 2012 why awkward? just helping a friend who has helped me
woof* Posted September 8, 2012 Report Posted September 8, 2012 All of my vintage subs have gen T19's but two, a rose dial Tudor that has a Clark and my recent 5512 with an SK (for now). The gens are a tiny bit clearer subjectively. The gens also seem to be more scratch and scuff resistant, but other than that...the Clark is dead on in profile and coloring. The gens average 180$ new old stock, the Clark is under 10$.The 5512 with SK is a nice crystal. but the profile is not the same as the Rolex. I prefer the genuine T19 service, but in a pinch the Clark rocks.
