dbutlerman Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 Hey Guys - A friend of mine is going to Singapore and I mentioned that I have the best travel resource in the world....you guys! So, here's the scoop from my friend - any suggestions would be great - my friends are world travelers - they've been almost everywhere - they are in the their mid-60's but are very active...they are planning on going Mid-February "We are looking for a 3 or 4 star hotel that is in an area/district that is located in the center of all that there is to see, close to the rail line so as to see the things that are not close, and safe to walk to and from at night. In other words we don't want to have to take a taxi to whatever to see what there is to see and we don't mind a mile or so walk." Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! db2
dukemoreau Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 I am very very famliar with Singapore, what is your price range?
dbutlerman Posted December 2, 2012 Author Report Posted December 2, 2012 Just emailed him...I'll let you know his budget...
blackdice Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I would suggest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugis_Street that street has many cheap hotels 2-5 starts and is close to the city center (Singapore is pretty small) and is also close to rail like. Food is great around the area too, night markets and such
Legend Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 welcome to my country If it were me, I will pick a hotel in Orchard if walk-shopping is a priority. Someone mentioned Mandarin Orchard. That is actually a good choice in terms of proximity, price and comfort.
chronoluvvv Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 i've only done the bus tour but yeah that Orchard place would be my pick too
folex Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 +1 for Mr.A. Mandarin sounds like a nice place, but I feel its more of a 5 star. If you're on budget look for the smaller hotels, perhaps, Orchard Hotel. Singapore's great, lots of food Should ask Mr.A to show you around. If he isn't busy that is. hehe
Phenomenal Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 Don't miss the food courts... try Newton. Amazing food, cheap prices.

torobravo Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Singapore is very small, so I´m pretty sure they won´t get lost
sebvad Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 I typically stay at the shangri-la - it's a little pricey, but they do a killer job. walking distance to orchard towers.
folex Posted December 5, 2012 Report Posted December 5, 2012 Mr A would like to show you around since you're already in SG right, my young friend? Hehehe, I'd let you know when I'm in Singapore
Sidknee24 Posted December 7, 2012 Report Posted December 7, 2012 I just got back from Singapore and I always stay at the Park Royal on Kitchener Road. Reasonably priced (150/nt) and in Little India. Great food and shopping and the Farrer subway station in across the street!
